As if having traveled alone for the first time 1200 km from my home had been not enough for me, I still wanted to continue going a little further to see what I would find. The trip I took to the province of San Juan managed to expand my horizons widely, and gave me enough confidence to go anywhere I set my mind to. One of the places I had in mind for this trip included crossing provinces, which allowed me to take one more step towards my #travelgoal, which consists of visiting at least one place in the 23 provinces of Argentina. Taking advantage of my stay in western Argentina, I made a short getaway to the Talampaya National Park within the province of La Rioja, #17 on this list ❤️.
Como si haber viajado sola por primera vez a 1200 km de mi casa hubiese sido poco para mí, todavía tenía ganas de seguir yendo un poco más allá para ver con qué me encontraba. El viaje que hice a la provincia de San Juan logró expandir mis horizontes ampliamente, y me dió la confianza suficiente para ir a cualquier lado que me propusiera. Uno de los lugares que tenía en mente dentro de este paseo incluía cruzarme de provincia, lo que me permitía dar un paso más para mi #travelgoal, el cuál consiste en visitar al menos un lugar de las 23 provincias de Argentina. Aprovechando la estadía en el oeste argentino, hice una pequeña escapada hasta el Parque Nacional Talampaya dentro de la provincia de La Rioja, la #17 en esta lista ❤️.
Although Talampaya National Park is 1,300 km from my house, it is only 320 km from the hostel where I worked in San Juan at the time. Of course I had to take advantage of the opportunity to go since I was in the area, so I organized my budget to be able to go, since despite the proximity, this trip was not very economical. But I had already seen some photos of what this place was like, so not going was no longer an option 😂.
Si bien el Parque Nacional Talampaya queda a 1300 km de mi casa, este se ubica solo a 320 km del hostel en el que trabajaba en San Juan en ese momento. Por supuesto que tenía que aprovechar la oportunidad de ir ya que me encontraba por la zona, así que organicé mi presupuesto para poder ir, ya que a pesar de lo cerca, este paseo no fue muy económico que digamos. Pero ya había visto algunas fotos de como era este lugar, así que no ir ya no era una opción 😂.

This park in La Rioja shares the same geographical space as the Ichisgualasto Provincial Park within the province of San Juan. Both were formed in the same period of history, but their landscapes are very different, and even their administrations as parks are very different. While Ischisgualasto Park in San Juan has a public transportation service to get there, Talampaya Park can only be accessed by private vehicle or hired excursion. This increases the budget needed to visit the second, so most people only go to the first 😶.
Este parque de La Rioja comparte el mismo espacio geográfico que el Parque Provincial Ichisgualasto dentro de la provincia de San Juan. Ambos se formaron en el mismo periodo de la historia, pero sus paisajes son muy diferentes, e incluso sus administraciones como parques son muy distintas. Mientras que el Parque Ischisgualasto de San Juan cuenta con un servicio de transporte público para llegar hasta él, al Parque Talampaya solo es posible acceder en vehículo particular o excursión contratada. Esto encarece el presupuesto necesario para visitar al segundo, por lo que la mayoría de la gente solo va al primero 😶.
In addition to the difficulty of accessing it, the price of tickets to both parks is also very different. Ischisgualasto Park has a public administration of the province and its access ticket is quite cheap. In October 2023 I paid only 1500 ARS to enter ($1.5), a really low price that included internal transportation throughout the park. This was not so in the case of Talampaya Park, for which they charged us 15,000 ARS ($15) for the same service. This price difference is due to the fact that this park has a private concession, and like everything private, it is more expensive 😶.
Además de la dificultad para acceder a él, el precio de las entradas a ambos parques también es muy diferente. El Parque Ischisgualasto tiene una administración pública de la provincia y su ticket de acceso es bastante económico. En Octubre 2023 pagué solo 1500 ARS para entrar ($1.5), un precio realmente bajo que incluía el transporte interno por todo el parque. Esto no fue tan así en el caso del Parque Talampaya, por el cual nos cobraron 15.000 ARS ($15) por el mismo servicio. Esta diferencia de precio se debe a que este parque tiene una conseción privada, y como todo lo privado, es más costoso 😶.
Returning to the topic of transportation, to go to Ischisgualasto Park I had paid 10,000 ARS ($10) round trip to get there, on a bus that left very early from the terminal. On the other hand, to get to Talampaya Park I had to hire a private transfer that charged me 30,000 ARS ($30) to take me and bring me back to the hostel. In short, in a single day I had to spend $45 to visit a park for a few hours: I don't deny that it hurt my wallet a little, but I knew I would see some incredible landscapes 😂.
Volviendo al tema del transporte, para ir al Parque Ischisgualasto había pagado 10.000 ARS ($10) ida y vuelta para llegar hasta allá, en un colectivo que salía muy temprano desde la terminal. En cambio, para poder llegar al Parque Talampaya tuve que contratar un traslado particular que me cobró 30.000 ARS ($30) por llevarme y traerme de regreso al hostel. En resumen, en un solo día tuve que gastar $45 para visitar un parque unas horas: no niego que me dolió un poco la billetera, pero sabía que vería unos paisajes increíbles 😂.
Once inside the park, the walk was done on internal buses that took you through just a part of the more than 2000 km2 of the place. This walk lasted about two hours and had several stops, in which a guide accompanied us and commented on curiosities. At least the price included good service, since the guide was very friendly and I could tell he knew a lot 😃.
Una vez dentro del parque, el paseo se realizaba en unos colectivos internos que te llevaban por apenas una parte dentro de los más de 2000 km2 del lugar. Este paseo duraba unas dos horas y tenía varias paradas, en las que un guía nos acompañaba y comentaba curiosidades. Al menos el precio incluyó un buen servicio, ya que el guía era muy amable y se notaba que sabía un montón 😃.
As in Ischisgualasto Park, this place had a series of wooden walkways to prevent people from stepping directly on the ground. Although it is a tourist site, it is also one of preservation and study of fossil remains. These walkways were arranged in such a way that interesting places could be accessed, such as parts of stones painted or marked by ancient civilizations 😃.
Al igual que en el Parque Ischisgualasto, este lugar contaba con una serie de pasarelas de madera para evitar que las personas pisaran directamente el suelo. A pesar de que es un sitio turístico, también es uno de preservación y de estudio de restos fósiles. Estas pasarelas estaban dispuestas de manera tal que se podían acceder a lugares interesantes, como partes de piedras pintadas o con marcas de las antiguas civilizaciones 😃.

This stop was a first approach to the large reddish rock formations that we would see throughout that afternoon. It was incredible to see the entire landscape in this color, since in its neighboring park everything was paler and brownish. A true wonder of nature that we could admire with our own eyes ❤️.
Esta parada fue un primer acercamiento a las grandes formaciones de rocas rojizas que veríamos durante toda esa tarde. Fue increíble ver todo el paisaje de este color, ya que en su parque vecino todo era de un todo más pálido y amarronado. Una verdadera maravilla de la naturaleza que podíamos admirar con nuestros propios ojos ❤️.

The second stop on our walk was to see the typical walls that they show you in the tourist photos. This space is made up of high walls of more than 150 meters that make you feel really insignificant when you see them up close. The entire space is prepared with wooden walkways so you can get as close as possible and appreciate them in detail ❤️.
La segunda parada de nuestro paseo fue para ver los típicos paredones que te muestran en las fotos turísticas. Este espacio está formado por altas paredes de más de 150 metros que te hacen sentir realmente insignificante cuando las ves desde cerca. Todo el espacio está preparado con pasarelas de madera para que puedas acercarte lo máximo posible y apreciarlas al detalle ❤️.

The coolest thing about this area of walls was that it was a ravine and on both sides you could see a similar landscape. If you paid attention, you could even see the same markings on both sides, indicating that millions of years ago these large structures would have been joined together. It's great to think about the land displacements that occurred throughout history, giving rise to what we can see today 😃.
Lo más genial de esta zona de paredones era que se trataba de una quebrada y a ambos lados se podía ver un paisaje similar. Si prestabas atención, incluso podías ver las mismas marcas de un lado y del otro, lo que indicaba que hace millones de años esas grandes estructuras habrían estado unidas. Es genial pensar en los desplazamientos terrestres que ocurrieron a lo largo de la historia, dando lugar a lo que podemos ver actualmente 😃.

As we moved through the park we went deeper and deeper into that large space full of walls. Our third stop was in an area called "cathedrals", since the marks on the stones were like thin towers and some were pointed. This was the first time we were able to step onto the actual ground of the park and we were also able to get close to touching the walls of the place. The feeling of being there was very impressive, an incredible landscape that made me not regret having come there ❤️.
A medida que íbamos avanzando por el parque nos íbamos adentrando más y más en ese gran espacio lleno de paredones. Nuestra tercera parada fue en una zona llamada "de las catedrales", ya que las marcas en las piedras eran como torres finas y algunas en puntas. Esta fue la primera vez que pudimos pisar el suelo real del parque y también pudimos acercarnos a tocar las paredes del lugar. La sensación de estar ahí era muy impresionante, un paisaje increíble que hizo que no me arrepintiera de haber llegado hasta allá ❤️.
While we were walking through the park, the guide made us notice the silence there was, and along the way we took the opportunity to play a little with the echo. He made all of us who were visiting the place shout out loud at the same time and we could hear how our voices were repeated two, three and even four times. This park is huge, and between so many walls, the rumble that could be heard was incredible 💕.
Mientras estábamos caminando por el parque, el guía nos hizo notar el silencio que había, y de paso aprovechamos para jugar un poco con el eco. A todos los que estábamos visitando el lugar, nos hizo gritar en voz alta al mismo tiempo y pudimos escuchar como nuestras voces se repetían dos, tres y hasta cuatro veces. Este parque es inmenso, y entre tantas paredes, el retumbe que se escuchaba fue increíble 💕.
The walk was coming to an end and our last and fourth stop was in the geoforms area. In this part of the place we could see natural sculptures that were reminiscent of known shapes, such as towers, monks and even some animals. During my entire trip to San Juan and in Ischisgualasto Park I was used to seeing these types of figures formed by nature, so I can say that I already had my imagination trained 😃.
El paseo iba llegando a su fin y nuestra última y cuarta parada fue en la zona de las geoformas. En esta parte del lugar pudimos ver esculturas naturales que recordaban a formas conocidas, como torres, monjes e incluso algunos animales. Durante todo mi viaje a San Juan y en el Parque Ischisgualasto estuve acostumbrada a ver este tipo de figuras formadas por la naturaleza, así que puedo decir que ya tenía mi imaginación entrenada 😃.
This walk ended on one last platform from which we could have a panoramic view of much of Talampaya Park. It was very incredible to think that this place originated millions of years ago and that it is so unique and different from its neighboring park. There are those who compare this park with Ischisgualasto, and even ask which one is better than the other, but the truth is that there is no concrete answer. Both places are beautiful and if it is within your means, it is recommended to visit both ❤️.
Este paseo terminó una última plataforma desde pudimos tener una vista panorámica de gran parte del Parque Talampaya. Fue muy increíble pensar en que este lugar se originó hace millones de años y que sea tan único y diferente de su parque vecino. Hay quienes comparan a este parque con el Ischisgualasto, e incluso preguntan cuál es mejor que el otro, pero lo cierto es que no hay una respuesta concreta. Ambos lugares son hermosos y si está dentro de tus posibilidades, lo recomendable es visitar ambos ❤️.
For this time, my visit to the province of La Rioja was quite fleeting, but I am happy to have visited it and get to know a little about its land. My country Argentina is immense and has so much to see that it is impossible to know everything, but it makes me happy to be fulfilling my dream of visiting some of its most notable places. I am sure that on some other occasion I will be able to go further within this province to see what else I find, but for the moment I'm happy to be able to say that I have already been there at least once 💕.
Por esta vez, mi visita a la provincia de La Rioja fue bastante fugaz, pero estoy feliz por haberla visitado y conocer un poquito de su tierra. Mi país Argentina es inmenso y tiene tanto para ver que es imposible conocerlo todo, pero me pone feliz estar cumpliendo mi sueño de visitar algunos de sus lugares más destacables. Estoy segura de que en alguna otra oportunidad voy a poder ir más allá dentro de esta provincia para ver con qué más me encuentro, pero por el momento estoy conforme de poder decir que ya estuve ahí al menos una vez 💕.

It's good that you took advantage of the fact that you were nearby to visit this beautiful national park, from what you mentioned, the province of La Rioja is more expensive than San Juan, and apparently San Juan has a better service to access the tourist centers, in my opinion It also caught my attention the first time you mentioned that you could access the tourist centers by public transport, I think that in most cities you can access it with a private service.
It is incredible how big the park is, 2000 kilometers is a lot to see, the good thing is that there is an internal transportation service to get to know the park
