Watching the Sunset in Ravensburg Germany

Kempton

After visiting Bavaria we began making our way back towards France, stopping along the way at a few towns in the Black Forest region of Germany. The first stop along the way was Kempton, which to be honest, really wasn't anying special.

It had a nice square, but not much else to see or do. It could have been the day or the dreary weather but the town was mostly quiet when we were there. We only spent about an hour, taking a brief walk to stretch our legs before continuing on to Ravensburg.

I did like some of the architecture though and a statue that we happened to stumble across.

The statue was delightfully creepy with these child animal hybrid figures with blank stares and sunken faces.

It was weird and interesting and I liked it. But we didn't stay long in town and we didn't do much exploring after that.

Ravensburg

We arrived in Ravensburg in the early afternoon and ended up liking the city quite a bit. It was a clean and modern but still managed to maintain a lot of its traditional architecture and charm.

The town has three city gates and 10 medeival fortification towers surrounding a well kept old town center. It's kind of a perfect mix of new and old. Ravensburg is also home to the famous Ravensburger puzzles and games company, which is kind of a fun fact about the city. I believe there is a puzzle museum in town as well but it wasn't something that we did during our stay.

The one downside while we were there was that there was a ton of construction happening in the city, which made for a lot of noise and a few unsightly areas.

The street in the plaza above, directly behind where the photo was taken, was completely torn up and stripped down to the dirt.

They were updating the old cobblestones to a more modern version, which you can see in the photo. The finished product looked quite nice I think.

Our favorite part of our stay in Ravensburg was walking up to the Veitsburg castle.

20210824_193727~2.jpg

The castle itself was nothing special but the views of the city were spectacular.

20210824_193621~2.jpg

The path to the top is a series of switchbacks that wind their way through a large garden.

Benches along the way make for an excellent spot to sit and watch the sunset.

We'd walk up one tier then stop for a few minutes and look back at the falling sun then continue up the path and do the same again.

We saw quite a few people sitting on the benches with pizza boxes and beer having a sort of dinner time pic-nic in the park.

I got the impression that this was a regular activity for young and old couples alike.

At the top of the hill is a large cement platform with a prime view of the city and setting sun. Many people were gathered there, all waiting to watch the sun set beyond the horizon.

If there was a "must do" thing in town then I would say that this was it. Watching the sunset from the Veitsburg castle was definitely our favorite part of our stay in town and a highlight of our trip. It was a simple thing and completely free to do, but sometimes it's the little things that really stand out in the end.

Well, that's it for now. If you are interested in reading more on our trip to Germany then stay tuned, there is more to come. Until then, thanks for stopping by. For the previous post simply click the link below.

Oberammergau Germany

Sort:

That's what I love and miss about European cities and towns - rue piétonne, paved pedestrian streets that inspire walking without the threat of being run over :D
It's always the little things that mean the most.

Yeah I love them as well. Not all towns have them though and some that you would think should have them or need them, dont, that can be pretty annoying lol. It's like "why are there so many cars here, on this tiny road that's filled with people!?!" We visited a really nice town in the Alsace region that was like that.

Haha, I can just imagine 😁

One of my friend is living in Germany and I heard a lot about beautiful and clean towns in there. And your photos showed me why. By the way, it's a beautiful sunset with the cute dog. @leaky20

Yeah we have seen quite a few nice towns in the country so far. It's a beautiful country as a whole.
Glad you liked the photos!

Oh man! You know how much I love sunsets, stunning pics bro! The real star of the show though, is your dog 😎, we all know it haha! Did he wine this time around, or was he well behaved?

Anyway good job, I was on the look out for your post!

Yeah everyone loves a good sunset.
The dog always wines lol. In the car, on the street, in the hotel. He's never just content. I think it's small dog syndrome lol

Hahaha small dog sydrome, this is hilarious lol. Actually quite often I see that the small dogs are the most vicious🤣 they bark, they make noise, they are ready for attack anytime. They are cute until they have a bone to pick with you.

Watching the sunset/sunrise from a castle...that would be a dream.

Yeah I know what you mean. Small dogs tend to be very dependent, insecure and possessive of their owners so they get aggressive when people get to close to their primary attachment figure. Fortunately, our dog isn't like that at all, but he definitely whines a lot lol.

Haha he likes the attention, a little diva🤣🤣

Exactly lol

Now that is a great place to see a sunset. I really like the look of Ravensberg, will have to add that to my list of locations to visit!

I wouldn't say that it was a "must see" location but it made for a good stop over spot since we were passing through.

Yeah it would be a must pass through and see on the way to somewhere!

Haha yeah, exactly

Spread love.

I'm glad I get a stunning view on Ravensburg through your photos!
I always kind of wished to visit this town as my grandma's sister got born there and they "lived" there with the family for a while during the WW2.
I still think it's a beautiful town, sadly each town has some dark history from the past... I mean no offense 🙏

Yeah there is a lot of history related to the two great wars in Germany and also in France where we are currently living. Europe in general has a lot of interesting history, sometimes very dark. A lot of places have done a great job preserving their history where they are able to though.

you have made me ravensburg tasty haha. The pictures have really great colors. The view over these red roofs and he old city is amazing!

Thanks I'm glad you liked the post!
