One Saturday, without planning it, we went to visit La Peña de Bernal. Honestly, I didn't have many expectations, since it was almost noon and it was very hot. But in the end the desire to do something different that day prevailed.
The trip from Santiago de Querétaro to the town of Bernal took about an hour and a bit more, the idea was to climb the Peña, but we were not able to do it, however, we enjoyed the ride.
Un sábado sin planificarlo, fuimos a conocer La Peña de Bernal, honestamente no tenía muchas expectativas, pues ya era casi medio día y hacia mucho calor. Pero al final predominaron las ganas de hacer algo diferente ese día.
Alrededor de una hora y algo más fue el recorrido desde Santiago de Querétaro hasta el pueblo Bernal, la idea era subir la Peña, pero no pudimos hacerlo, sin embargo, disfrutamos el paseo.
When you arrive at the town of Bernal, this image is the first to greet you, of course, from the road the monolith is already visible, but once you reach the town you can see it from everywhere. It is so imposing that nothing can hide it and it is the first thing that catches your attention when you arrive, it is as if it is welcoming you.
Cuando vas llegando al pueblo de Bernal, esta imagen es la primera que te recibe, claro que desde la carretera el monolito ya se va haciendo visible, pero una vez que llegas a la ciudad lo ves desde todas partes. Es tan imponente que nada lo puede tapar y es lo primero que llama la atención cuando llegas, es como si te diera la bienvenida.
According to the Mexican Ministry of Tourism's website, La Peña de Bernal is the third-largest rocky monolith in the world, followed by the Rock of Gibraltar in Spain and Brazil's Sugarloaf Mountain. It is approximately 300 meters high and dates back to the Jurassic period.
The Peña de Bernal was formed as a result of the inactivity of a volcano, the lava inside it solidified and with the passage of time this enormous monolith was formed, it is like a dead volcano, let's hope it never revives because the town is right at its feet.
Según la página de la Secretaría de Turismo de Mexico, La Peña de Bernal es el tercer monolito rocoso más grande del mundo, seguido de el Peñón de Gibraltar en España y el Pan de Azúcar de Brasil. Tiene una altura de aproximadamente 300 metros, y data desde el periodo Jurásico.
La peña de Bernal se formó producto de la inactividad de un volcán, la lava de su interior se fue solidificando y con el paso del tiempo se formo este enorme monolito, es como un volcán muerto, esperemos que nunca reviva porque el pueblo está justo a sus pies.
The walk to the top of the hill takes about an hour, although we did not do it because of the intense sun, there are those who dare to experience this adventure. We are planning to go again but this time earlier, so that the sun is not too strong because we have heard of people suffering from sunstroke and dehydration, as there are no trees on the trail to provide some shade.
El recorrido a pie hasta la parte alta del cerro se toma aproximadamente una hora, aunque nosotros no lo hicimos por el intenso sol que había, hay quienes si se atreven a experimentar esa aventura. Nosotros estamos planeando volver a ir pero esta vez más temprano, de manera que el sol no sea muy fuerte ya que hemos oido de personas que sufren insolación y deshidratación, pues en el recorrido no hay ningún árbol que de algo de sombra.
The Town
The town of Bernal was declared a magical town by the government and is visited by tourists from all over Mexico, including foreign tourists. The Peña de Bernal is its main attraction, but it also has museums, restaurants with exquisite typical dishes, handicrafts, sweets and a great variety of minerals, the most common being quartz and obsidian.
El pueblo de Bernal fue declarado pueblo mágico por el gobierno y es muy visitado por turistas de todas partes de Mexico incluso por turistas extranjeros. La Peña de Bernal es su principal atracción, pero también posee museos, restaurantes con exquisitos platos típicos, artesanías, dulces y una gran variedad de minerales siendo los más comunes el cuarzo y la obsidiana.
Bernal is also known for being on "the cheese and wine route", here you can find a great variety of fresh and aged artisan cheese, if you visit Bernal you can't miss trying a mozzarella cheese rolled with prosciutto, we bought it and I really recommend it because it is very tasty. They also sell enchilado, batanero and goat cheese.
Bernal también es conocido por encontrarse en "la ruta del queso y del vino," aquí puedes encontrar gran variedad de queso artesanal fresco y añejo, si visitas Bernal no puedes perderte de probar un queso mozzarella enrollado con prosciutto, nosotros lo compramos y la verdad lo recomiendo porque es muy sabroso. También venden queso enchilado, batanero y de cabra.
And if cheese is not your favorite thing, you can also go to the different taverns and live music venues and enjoy a delicious michelada, a glass of wine or just a beer, enjoy a delicious dish while listening to popular music and why not? have a little dance.
Y si no es el queso lo que más le gusta, también puedes ir a las diferentes tabernas y locales de música en vivo y disfrutar una rica michelada, una copa de vino o simplemente una cerveza, disfrutar un rico platillo mientras escucha música popular y ¿por que no? echar una bailadita.
I think in Bernal there is fun for everyone, it all depends on how much you want to enjoy yourself.
