Te invito a Cuba. Si eres amante de la adrenalina que desprende tu cuerpo ante la sensación de peligro no te puedes perder en tus vacaciones una visita más que diferente. Te propongo en un día conocer la naturaleza de mi país de una forma divertida. Lejos del lujo de los resorts de Varadero o de la hospitalidad de una casa de renta en La Habana, lejos del bullicio y del desarrollo de las ciudades. Te propongo viajar, en una excursión de un día, a un criadero de cocodrilos.

I invite you to Cuba. If you are a lover of the adrenaline that your body gives off when faced with the sensation of danger, you cannot miss a more than different visit on your vacation. I propose in one day to get to know the nature of my country in a fun way. Far from the luxury of the Varadero resorts or the hospitality of a rental house in Havana, far from the hustle and bustle of the cities. I suggest you travel, on a day trip, to a crocodile farm.
Antes de 1962 las dos especies de cocodrilos que existían en Cuba estaban en peligro de extinción, por su caza indiscriminada. Una vez creado el criadero, por el Ministerio de la Industria Pesquera, estas especies están fuera de peligro y cuentan con decenas de miles de ejemplares. El criadero es relativamente pequeño, pero en este lugar se albergan y se protegen más de 10 mil especímenes, colocados por áreas según su tamaño. Allí podrás encontrar dos especies de cocodrilos, Crocodylus rhombifer, endémico de este territorio y el Crocodylus acutus, el famoso caimán que habita en todas las zonas de clima tropical de América. Allí te explicarán como estos animales habitan, se aparean, cazan y son alimentados. Si te atreves puedes tocar a alguno de estos reptiles en un punto determinado del recorrido.
Before 1962, the two species of crocodiles that existed in Cuba were in danger of extinction, due to their indiscriminate hunting. Once the hatchery was created by the Ministry of the Fishing Industry, these species are out of danger and have tens of thousands of specimens. The hatchery is relatively small, but in this place more than 10 thousand specimens are housed and protected, placed by areas according to their size. There you can find two species of crocodiles, Crocodylus rhombifer, endemic to this territory, and Crocodylus acutus, the famous alligator that lives in all tropical climate zones of America. Pero no solo hay cocodrilos, la ciénaga de Zapata se caracteriza por su amplia riqueza natural. Otras especies como la tortuga, la jutía cubana o el “manjuarí”, son de gran interés para el público. Este último no es más que una criatura prehistórica, un fósil viviente, y esta sí está en peligro de extinción. Además de los animales encontrarás curiosos elementos de la flora, como algunas plantas endémiocas de la zona.
But there are not only crocodiles, the Zapata swamp is characterized by its extensive natural wealth. Other species such as the turtle, the Cuban hutía or the "manjuarí" are of great interest to the public. The latter is nothing more than a prehistoric creature, a living fossil, and this one is in danger of extinction. In addition to the animals you will find curious elements of the flora, such as some endemic plants of the area.
Otras actividades que podrás realizar
Por si te resulta poco visitar el criadero y tocar un cocodrilo vivo. Sin salir del complejo turítico, no te puedes perder la representación de una localidad de aborígenes. Donde puedes interactuar con ellos y ser partícipe de sus actividades. Solo te contaré que puedes entrar a sus bohíos y hacer sus rituales¿No es fantástico? Luego de esto, con el tiempo que resta, tendras la oportunidad de ir a la famosa Punta Perdiz, donde podrás relajarte en su playa o podrás sumarte al nado con snórquel para conocer sus exóticos arrecifes.

In case it is not enough for you to visit the hatchery and touch a live crocodile. Without leaving the tourist complex, you cannot miss the representation of an aboriginal town. Where you can interact with them and participate in their activities. I will only tell you that you can enter their huts and do their rituals. Isn't that fantastic? After this, with the remaining time, you will have the opportunity to go to the famous Punta Perdiz, where you can relax on its beach or you can join the snorkeling to see its exotic reefs.
En mi humilde opinión es una excursión muy completa. Por otra parte en el complejo turítico hay lugares exclusivos donde puedes degustar carne de cocodrilo. Puedes también comprar artículos hechos con su piel o sus dientes. Pero recuerde que el lugar debe formar parte del parque natural y debe recordar pedir la factura de su compra. Esto es imprescindible para demostrar en la aduana del aeropuerto la legalidad del artículo que compró, el comprobante demuestra que el cocodrilo era de granja y no salvaje.
In my humble opinion it is a very complete excursion. On the other hand, in the tourist complex there are exclusive places where you can taste crocodile meat. You can also buy items made from their skin or teeth. But remember that the place must be part of the natural park and you must remember to ask for the invoice of your purchase. This is essential to prove the legality of the item you bought at the airport customs, the receipt shows that the crocodile was farmed and not wild.
