Nejstarší záznamy o kostele na území Břeclavi je ze druhé poloviny 9 století.
Předchůdce dnešního kostela, byl v roce 1944 poškozen bombardováním a přesto že se po skončení druhé světové války vybralo mezi věřícími 1 327 000 Kč, po komunistickém převratu v roce 1948 místní funkcionáři tyto peníze zabavili a církvi byly vyčleněny prostory ve skladu tehdejšího cukrovaru. I tyto jim prostory však byly v roce 1974 odňaty a Břeclav se důstojného svatostánku dočkala až ve výše zmíněném roce 1995.

The predecessor of today's church, it was damaged by bombing in 1944, and although 1,327,000 CZK was collected among the faithful after the end of World War II, after the communist takeover in 1948, local officials confiscated this money and the church was allocated space in the warehouse of the former sugar factory. However, even these premises were taken away from them in 1974 and Breclav did not get a decent sanctuary until 1995.
Vevnitř najdeme oltář z bělošedého italského mramoru. Nad oltářem visí jednoduchý kříž. Tento kříž je kopií kříže postranního oltáře kostela Matky boží před Týnem v Praze. Nachází se zde také socha Panny Marie, kopie gotické madony ze Strakonicka. Na obraze v oltáři kostela je znázorněno zavraždění svatého Václava. Obraz je zasazen do barokního pozlaceného rámu z konce 17. století, který byl zachráněn ze zničeného kostela sv. Prokopa v Praze-Hlubočepích.

Křížová cesta je trojrozměrná, odlitá z pryskyřice a je dílem Karla Stádníka. Je zajímavá a neobvyklá tím, že znázorňuje nikoliv běžných 14 zastavení, ale 15. Poslední 15. zastavení znázorňuje zjevení vzříšeného Ježíše „nevěřícímu" učedníku Tomášovi.
The Stations of the Cross is three-dimensional, cast in resin and is the work of Karel Stádník. It is interesting and unusual in that it depicts not the usual 14 stops, but 15. The last 15th stop depicts the appearance of the risen Jesus to the "unbelieving" disciple Thomas.
