Everything has its end, says a song, and so we reached the fifth and last day at the end of the world, that is, in the city of Ushuaia, Argentine Patagonia. To make the most of the time, we chose an excursion that lasted almost the whole day, in which we were able to enjoy various sceneries of this beautiful region of the world.
Todo tiene su final, dice una canción, y así llegamos al quinto y último día en el fin del mundo, es decir, en la ciudad de Ushuaia, Patagonia argentina. Para aprovechar al máximo el tiempo, elegimos una excursión que duró casi todo el día, en la que pudimos disfrutar de varios paisajes de esta hermosa región del mundo.
The agency we went with, Rumbo Sur, picked us up at the hotel at about 9:00 in the morning, in the bus we were about 20 people, most of them foreigners like us. As soon as we left the city, the snow-capped mountains appeared everywhere, further ahead we made a stop to take pictures, the morning was cloudy and the cold was powerful.
La agencia con la que fuimos, Rumbo Sur, nos buscó en el hotel como a las 9:00 de la mañana, en el autobús éramos como 20 personas, la mayoría extranjeros como nosotras. Apenas dejamos la ciudad, las montañas nevadas aparecieron por todos lados, más adelante hicimos una parada para tomar fotos, la mañana estaba nublada y el frío potente.
After that we continued to the first point of the excursion, Las Cotorras Winter Center, a tourist resort where in winter you can do activities such as cross-country skiing, snowmobile rides and dog sledding. As it was October and summer was approaching in the southern hemisphere, it was not the season for all that, so our visit was to see the Husky and Alaskan dog kennel.
Después de eso continuamos hacia el primer punto de la excursión, el Centro Invernal Las Cotorras, un complejo turístico en donde en invierno se pueden realizar actividades como el esquí de fondo, paseos en motos de nieve y en trineos tirados por perros. Como era octubre y ya se acercaba el verano en el hemisferio sur, no era temporada para todo eso, así que nuestra visita fue para conocer el criadero de perros huskies y alaskanos.
The place is a very beautiful valley, with trees here and there, and among them are located the dog houses, where they take shelter. I was fascinated, and my mom too, all the dogs were very docile and affectionate, I have read that these breeds are very sociable.
El lugar es un valle muy bonito, con árboles aquí y allá, y entre ellos están ubicadas las casitas de los perros, donde ellos se resguardan. Yo estaba fascinada, y mi mamá también, todos los perros eran muy dóciles y cariñosos, he leído que estas razas son muy sociables.
The guide then led us to one of the huts, it was like the reception of the center, there was a lot of information on the walls, about events, awards, trophies, and one of the workers brought some puppies, I melted! They are too beautiful and soft, the kennel that operates here is called Siberians of Fire.
El guía nos condujo luego a una de las cabañas, era como la recepción del centro, había mucha información en las paredes, sobre eventos, premios, trofeos, y uno de los trabajadores trajo a unos cachorros, ¡me derretí! Son demasiado hermosos y suaves, el criadero que funciona aquí se llama Siberianos de Fuego.
These breeds of dogs are ideal for the Patagonian climate and its activities, they have a lot of energy, and here they are trained to go sledding and also to accompany people on hiking trails.
Estas razas de perros son ideales para el clima patagónico y sus actividades, tienen mucha energía, y aquí los entrenan para hacer paseos en trineos y también para acompañar a la gente en rutas de senderismo.
These almost wolves are very strong and resistant to the cold, as it was not the winter season to walk with them, one of the caretakers brought a sled with 8 dogs and gave us a small demonstration of how these tours are.
Estos casi lobos son muy fuertes y resistentes al frío, como no era temporada invernal para pasear con ellos, uno de los cuidadores trajo un trineo con 8 perros y nos hizo una pequeña demostración de cómo son estos recorridos.
We said goodbye to the huskies and Alaskans, boarded the bus and continued on to another point of the excursion, the Garibaldi Pass. Those who wanted to could get off and take a short hike down the mountain with views of Lake Escondido and Lake Fagnano. My mom preferred to go down that stretch with the bus, and I, along with others in the group, took the hiking option.
Nos despedimos de los huskies y los alaskanos, subimos al autobús y seguimos hacia otro punto de la excursión, el Paso Garibaldi. Los que querían podían bajarse y hacer una corta caminata montaña abajo con vistas hacia el Lago Escondido y el Lago Fagnano. Mi mamá prefirió bajar ese tramo con el autobús, y yo junto a otras personas del grupo, tomamos la opción del senderismo.
The day was still cloudy, but I was still able to take some pictures of the lakes from the viewpoint, in the image below you can see Lago Escondido and behind it you can see a little bit of Fagnano.
El día continuaba nublado, pero aún así pude hacer algunas fotos de los lagos desde el mirador, en la imagen que sigue se ve el Lago Escondido y detrás de él se ve un poco el Fagnano.
The Garibaldi Pass, carved into the mountain, is the only road that crosses the Fuegian Andes, which are the southern continuation of the Andes mountain range, and the place where it ends. As we descended, the views of Lago Escondido became closer.
El Paso Garibaldi, tallado en la montaña, es la única carrretera que atraviesa los Andes Fueguinos, que son la continuación austral de la cordillera de los Andes, y el lugar donde esta termina. Mientras íbamos bajando, las vistas al Lago Escondido se hacían más cercanas.
This lake is of glacial origin and has an area of 632 square km. We reached its level and it looked really spectacular, although because of the cloudy day and the dry vegetation around, also a bit scary, I thought it wouldn't be uncommon to see some dinosaur come out of there 😃.
Este lago es de origen glaciar y tiene una superficie de 632 km cuadrados. Llegamos a su nivel y se veía realmente espectacular, aunque por el día nublado y la vegetación seca alrededor, también un poco tenebroso, pensé que no sería raro ver salir a algún dinosaurio de allí 😃.
There was a dock on one part of its shores, we were told that there are people who come here to fish, we walked around it for a while.

The excursion then continued to Lake Fagnano, fortunately the weather improved and the sun came out. This lake didn't look like a lake, it looked as if it was the sea.
La excursión continuó luego hasta el Lago Fagnano, afortunadamente el clima mejoró y el sol salió. Este lago no parecía un lago, parecía el mar.
Lake Fagnano or Khami (Big Water) in the language of the Selk'nam Indians, also of glacial origin, has an area of about 590 square kilometers and a part of it, 7%, belongs to Chile, where it flows. The surrounding landscape is beautiful, thick forests and imposing mountains. They also told us about its geological peculiarity, it turns out that at its bottom is the Fagnano-Magallanes fault, the limit between the South American and Scotia tectonic plates, and this fracture causes the lake to move 5 millimeters in an east-west direction every year.
El Lago Fagnano o Khami (Agua Grande) en lengua de los indígenas Selk’nam, también de origen glaciar, tiene una superficie de unos 590 km cuadrados y una parte de él, el 7%, pertenece a Chile, donde desemboca. El paisaje que lo rodea es bellísimo, espesos bosques e imponentes montañas. Nos contaron además de su particularidad geológica, resulta que en su fondo está la falla Fagnano-Magallanes, el límite entre las placas tectónicas Sudamericana y Scotia, y esta fractura hace que cada año el lago se mueva 5 milímetros en dirección este-oeste.
After contemplating these beautiful lakes, we were taken to a place to eat, the Tierra Mayor Winter Center, located in another spectacular landscape of this province, Tierra del Fuego.

My mom had lamb, a local specialty, and I had trout. Before leaving we walked around for a while and I took with me this last picture of the end of the world, isn't it a mind-blowing place?

It´s a breed that was "created" here in my country by crossbreeding dogs and wolves. Today, these dogs only have a very small % of the wolf genes in their DNA but in appearance, they still look like wolves very much. I sometimes meet these dogs here and they are so beautiful! They are actually quite rare even here but you can still see them sometimes :) Like I just replied to your sister, in Prague, where we lived, there was a girl with 3 of these dogs and I often met them in the park. Always a very nice encounter :) Like a little private pack of wolves hehe :)
