Three thousand flats, 250,000 square metres of office space, 15,000 square metres of retail space and the city's first real skyscraper, including a viewing platform – a brand new, ultra-modern district is currently being built in Budapest's southwest that you've probably never heard of. Exactly a week ago today, I was there to get an idea of what it's like. Just read on if you want to know my impressions of the new modern face of the Hungarian capital!
Dreitausend Wohnungen, 250.000 Quadratmeter Bürofläche, 15.000 Quadratmeter Einzelhandelsfläche und der erste wirkliche Wolkenkratzer der Stadt, inklusive Aussichtsplattform – in Budapests Südwesten entsteht gerade ein brandneuer, hochmoderner Stadtteil, von dem ihr wahrscheinlich noch nie gehört habt. Heute vor genau einer Woche war ich dort, um mir ein Bild davon zu machen. Lest einfach weiter, wenn ihr meine Eindrücke vom neuen, modernen Gesicht der ungarischen Hauptstadt erfahren wollt!
Bus No. 110 took us directly from Budapest's Keleti Palyaudvar train station to the new district in about 20 minutes early in the morning. Budapart is the name of the project and currently attracts visitors mainly with the imposing Mol Campus, the city's first real skyscraper. Also for my girlfriend and me this was the main reason to visit Budapart. Accordingly, we were a little surprised when we noticed that a completely new district is being built here and that large parts of it have already been completed. Later, I learned that it even won the prize for the best neighbourhood development at the FIABCI international real estate competition in Paris.
Der Bus Nr. 110 brachte uns früh morgens vom Budapester Bahnhof Keleti Palyaudvar in ungefähr 20 Minuten direkt zum neuen Stadtteil. Budapart heißt das Projekt und lockt zur Zeit vor allem mit dem imposanten Mol Campus, dem ersten wirklichen Wolkenkratzer der Stadt, Besucher an. Auch für meine Freundin und mich war das der Hauptgrund, Budapart zu besuchen. Dementsprechend waren wir etwas überrascht, als wir feststellten, dass hier ein komplett neuer Stadtteil entsteht und zu großen Teilen bereits fertiggestellt ist. Später erfuhr ich, dass dieser beim internationalen Immobilienwettbewerb FIABCI in Paris sogar den Preis für die beste Quartiersentwicklung gewann.
During our walk, of course we first admired the huge building of the Mol Campus, but soon we got completely surprised again. A cosy, well-kept beach? What kind of body of water is that actually? An artificial lake? However, we were annoyed that we didn't have any swimwear with us. The beach looked inviting and we would have definitely enjoyed a dip in the cool water on this hot summer day.
Bei unserem Spaziergang bestaunten wir in erster Linie natürlich das riesige Gebäude des Mol Campus, wurden aber bald erneut völlig überrascht. Ein gemütlicher, gepflegter Badestrand? Was ist das überhaupt für ein Gewässer? Ein künstlich angelegter See? Wir ärgerten uns jedenfalls, dass wir keine Badebekleidung dabeihatten. Der Strand sah einlandend aus und einen Sprung ins kühle Nass hätten wir an diesem heißen Sommertag auf jeden Fall genossen.
Instead we walked along the shore and soon arrived at a great vantage point where we could marvel at the skyline of the emerging district. It was really fascinating how different Budapart is from the rest of the Hungarian capital. Somehow we felt very comfortable here right from the start. But now we finally wanted to visit the Mol Tower.
Stattdessen spazierten wir am Ufer entlang und gelangten bald zu einem tollen Aussichtspunkt, an dem wir die Skyline des entstehenden Stadtteils bestaunen konnten. Es war wirklich faszinierend, wie sehr sich Budapart vom Rest der ungarischen Hauptstadt unterscheidet. Irgendwie fühlten wir uns hier von Anfang an sehr wohl. Nun wollten wir aber endlich den Mol Tower besuchen.
Already the entrance area of the 150m high building impressed us with its futuristic architecture. This area is freely accessible and already justifies a visit. Here you will also find a small restaurant where you can eat surprisingly cheaply. After a few photos, the highlight of our excursion was just around the corner. I had already bought tickets for the viewing platform online. I paid the equivalent of just over €15 for two people. Especially compared to other attractions in the city, I thought that was very reasonable. So we took the lift and within a few seconds we reached the 30th floor and the observation deck.
Schon der Eingangsbereich des 150m hohen Gebäudes beeindruckte uns mit seiner futuristischen Architektur. Dieser Bereich ist frei zugänglich und rechtfertigt bereits einen Besuch. Hier findet man auch ein kleines Restaurant, in dem man überraschend günstig essen kann. Nach ein paar Fotos stand nun das Highlight unseres Ausflugs unmittelbar bevor. Schon vorab hatte ich online Tickets für die Aussichtsplattform gekauft. Ich bezahlte umgerechnet etwas über 15€ für zwei Personen. Auch das fand ich sehr günstig – besonders im Vergleich mit anderen Attraktionen der Stadt. Also nahmen wir den Aufzug und erreichten innerhalb von wenigen Sekunden den 30. Stock und die Aussichtsplattform.
Wow, what incredible views! We had never seen Budapest from this perspective before. We could even look down on the citadel, which was actually considered the highest point in the city. While looking down from above, I also realised that the supposed lake with the beach was actually a bay of the Danube. There were hardly any other visitors on the viewing platform, which we found very pleasant. No comparison to the tourist crowds at similar places in other metropolises. So we could relax on the chairs provided along the glass walls and enjoy the view over the city to the fullest.
Wow, was für unglaubliche Ausblicke! Aus dieser Perspektive hatten wir Budapest noch nie gesehen. Selbst auf die Zitadelle, die eigentlich als höchster Punkt der Stadt galt, konnten wir hinabblicken. Beim Blick von oben erkannte ich nun auch, dass der vermeintliche See mit dem Strand eigentlich eine Bucht der Donau ist. Es befanden sich kaum andere Besucher auf der Aussichtsplattform, was wir als sehr angenehm empfanden. Kein Vergleich zu den Touristenmassen an ähnlichen Orten in anderen Metropolen. So konnten wir auf den bereitgestellten Stühlen entlang der Glaswände entpannen und den Blick über die Stadt in vollen Zügen genießen.
Back on the ground floor, we treated ourselves to a hot dog, for which we even got a discount because we had tickets for the observation deck. Afterwards, we took the bus back to Keleti Station, which seemed like the ideal counterpart to the Mol Campus with its historic architecture. It's incredible how versatile Budapest has become. I can only recommend you to visit Budapart for yourselves. You will certainly not regret it. For us, the train ride back home was now on the agenda. Wieder im Erdgeschoss angekommen, gönnten wir uns noch ein Hotdog, für das wir übrigens sogar noch einen Rabatt bekamen, da wir Tickets für die Aussichtsplattform besaßen. Im Anschluss nahmen wir den Bus zurück zum Keleti-Bahnhof, der uns mit seiner historischen Architektur wie das ideale Gegenstück zum Mol-Campus erschien. Unfassbar, wie vielseitig Budapest mittlerweile geworden ist. Ich kann euch nur empfehlen, Budapart einmal selbst zu besuchen. Ihr werdet es sicher nicht bereuen. Für uns stand nun die Zugfahrt zurück nach Hause auf dem Programm. Ich hoffe, meine Berichte über Budapest haben euch gefallen und freue mich darauf, euch schon sehr bald von einem neuen Reiseziel berichten zu dürfen.
