Hello everyone! Today I would like to tell you about the next stage of our Mexico road trip. This time, it was a four-hour drive with temperatures of up to 43°C from Taxco to the fourth largest city in the country - Puebla. The drive itself was not without problems, as an accident on the motorway caused a roadblock and a very long traffic jam. In addition, we only found a gas station at the very last moment - the fuel gauge already showed 0km. In the end, however, we landed safely in Puebla and started exploring the city.
Hallo zusammen! Heute möchte ich euch von der nächsten Etappe unseres Mexiko-Roadtrips berichten. Diesmal ging es von Taxco über eine vierstündige Autofahrt mit Temperaturen von bis zu 43°C in die viertgrößte Stadt des Landes - Puebla. Die Fahrt selbst war nicht ganz problemlos, da ein Unfall auf der Autobahn für eine Straßensperre und einen kilometerlangen Stau sorgte. Außerdem fanden wir erst im allerletzten Moment eine Tankstelle - die Tankuhr zeigte bereits 0km an. Letztendlich landeten wir aber doch sicher in Puebla und starteten unsere Stadterkundung.
The city is located about 100km southeast of Mexico City and has a population of 1.5 million. Particularly worth seeing is the old town of Puebla, which has been a UNSECO World Heritage Site since 1987. Among other things, you can find the highest and second largest cathedral in Mexico here, which is one of the main sights of the city. At first, we were very surprised by the quiet and cozy atmosphere of the center. It also felt very safe walking through the clean, well-kept streets of the old town.
Die Stadt befindet sich ungefähr 100km südöstlich von Mexico City und verfügt über 1,5 Millionen Einwohner. Besonders sehenswert ist vor allem die Altstadt von Puebla, die seit 1987 zum UNSECO Weltkulturerbe zählt. Hier befindet sich unter anderem die höchste und zweitgrößte Kathedrale Mexikos - eine der Hauptsehenswürdigkeiten der Stadt. Zu Beginn waren wir erstmal sehr überrascht von der ruhigen und gemütlichen Atmosphäre des Stadtzentrums. Wir fühlten uns außerdem sehr sicher beim Spazieren durch die sauberen, gepflegten Straßen der Altstadt.
Another thing we noticed, was the friendliness of the people of Puebla, which made our visits to the restaurants even more fun. The city is very colorful in terms of house facades and decorations. We especially liked the "Calle de los Dulces" in this respect. In addition, lots of arcades and tall trees provide shade while strolling through the old town.
Besonders positiv fiel uns die Freundlichkeit der Einwohner Pueblas auf, aufgrund derer uns die Restaurantbesuche gleich noch mehr Spass machten. Außerdem ist die Stadt sehr farbenfroh, was die Hausfassaden und Dekorationen betrifft. Besonders gut gefiel uns in dieser Hinsicht die "Calle de los Dulces". Jede Menge Arkaden und hohe Bäume sorgen für Schatten beim Flanieren durch die Altstadt.
However, Puebla also has a very worth seeing modern face and lots of modern architecture to offer. An architectural highlight is the "Museo Internacional del Barroco", which we visited directly after our walk through the old town. The museum itself was unfortunately closed, but we could still admire the bright white facade of the building. Behind the museum there is a very well-kept park, where we relaxed a bit.
Puebla hat jedoch auch ein sehr sehenswertes modernes Gesicht und jede Menge moderner Architektur zu bieten. Ein architektonisches Highlight ist das "Museo Internacional del Barroco", das wir direkt nach unserem Spaziergang durch die Altstadt besuchten. Das Museum selbst war leider geschlossen, die strahlend weiße Fassade des Gebäudes konnten wir aber trotzdem bewundern. Hinter dem Museum befindet sich auch ein sehr gepflegter Park, in dem wir uns etwas entspannten.
Puebla really surprised us in a very positive way. To me personally, the city seemed extremely relaxed, modern and clean. I felt partly very much reminded of European metropolises in Spain or Portugal. Mexico's fourth largest city is also very attractive in terms of prices. You can feel the, compared to the capital, significantly lower price level both in accommodations, as well as in bars and restaurants clearly. On the next day, my girlfriend and I went on to the third "Pueblo Magico" of our trip, which I will tell you about in the next post.
Puebla hat uns wirklich sehr positiv überrascht. Auf mich persönlich wirkte die Stadt extrem entspannt, modern und gepflegt. Ich fühlte mich teilweise sehr an europäische Metropolen in Spanien oder Portugal erinnert. Auch preislich ist Mexikos viertgrößte Stadt sehr attraktiv. Man spürt das, im Vergleich zur Hauptstadt, deutlich niedrigere Preisniveau sowohl bei den Unterkünften, als auch bei des Bars und Restaurants deutlich. Für meine Freundin und mich ging es am nächsten Tag weiter in das dritte "Pueblo Magico" unserer Reise, von dem ich euch im nächsten Beitrag berichten werde.
