A lot of callbacks in this week's strip.... the Trogdorr and manatee reference, Sir Marko and Naya decapitating the earth & water cult prophets, and the party's fire-bombing spree. Not familiar with the callbacks? Well, you can get caught up on the very beginning of their D&D adventures here and using the "Next" links on the bottom of each page to scroll through!

For those less familiar with D&D, there are some players that use violence to solve every problem and have a penchant for killing & looting everything indiscriminately when on an adventure. The phenomenon is common enough such players have over time earned the amusing nickname, "murder hobos". While our brave band of adventurers are not that extreme, their actions have shown a certain level of twisted pragmatism. And with that comes a certain... reputation.

On the sliding scale between the extremes of "honorable paladin" and "murder hobo", I'd say they're somewhere in the area of "reasonably stabby, moderately shameless nomads". 😈

In movies and comics violence seems the be the first resort of many characters too. How many times did James T. Kirk save the day by punching something?

This story has gone on for 2.5 years now! I remember when it was in black and white!

I know, right? It's been so long, that whenever I look back at those first ones I wince a little bit when I see how I drew the characters back then. But I try to see the good side, namely how much I've improved since then!

It's got to be good that you have improved. I wince at some of my early music attempts.

Haha, yeah, I ran a campaign with a group once that prided themselves on their "do goodness," then got completely sucked in to doing the 'bad guys' will and flooded a town full of innocents. Good times.

Reminds me of the time years ago when our party came across bandits who had caged a starving bear. The Arcane Trickster used Mage Hand to plant some meat on one of the bandits and then picked the cage's lock, freeing the bear. Long story short, the bear killed the bandits guarding the wagon and dragged the bodies off into the woods while we ambushed the main group. The DM congratulated us on defeating the bandits, but said now there's a deranged grizzly with a taste for human flesh that will plague the towns in the area for years to come.

But hey, totally worth it... 😁

Ain't no party like a raiding party!

Or, as one of our old party mottos went.... "it's time to commence 'Operation: Kill Stuff and Break Things'!" 😈
