You cannot find peace by avoiding life.

- Virginia Woolf -

Lately peace has been difficult to come by; peace of mind. I usually have a great deal going on in my life and get after it pretty well meaning I push hard on life to get the best from it. Mostly I'm in control and make it work nicely, however not always.

With my work situation changing a couple weeks ago I've had less time to get life done and through necessity have been forced to fit everything into a shorter space of time; that's not conducive to finding peace generally. I know the importance of finding peace of mind, a central point or re-set which helps me launch at the next phase of activities and so I've taken more than a few beach walks to find some balance over the last weeks.

I usually hike a lot however the lack of time has meant I've had to rely on the beach walks to help me cast off the unwanted stresses from the day, and life itself. I often walk quite late in the evening so I can catch the sunset, the sight of which brings a certain calmness to me all by itself. Add in the walk and the sounds of the ocean and before long I'm feeling pretty calm, centred and at peace. Mostly.

I work hard at living life the best I can, to make sure it counts. That means I try to get the most out of each day and each moment by being one hundred percent present and finding enjoyment and purpose. This extends to work of course, I take my work seriously and give it the respect it's due. I'm not a slave to it though; I don't live to work, I live to live and so chase after life rather than drift along allowing myself to be carried this way and that without some input. Sure, one can't always control life but one can control one's attitudes, thoughts and actions and that's what I work on every day. At the beach sometimes.

I hope y'all have had a great Wednesday, or have a great one planned. Mine is going to end with an hour or so on the beach tonight, a walk and then I'll take a seat and watch the sunset whilst I eat a dinner of fish and chips. It's a very basic evening but the sort of simple moment in which I will find a lot of peace; it's a restorative moment.

Design and create your ideal life, don't live it by default - Tomorrow isn't promised so be humble and kind

Thanks for sharing this, @galenkp It's good to hear that you have a tried and tested way to de-stress, even if work is making it hard for you to do it right now.

I think we all need a way to balance out the stress we feel as letting it mount up won't usually go so well. Thanks for commenting.

I also feel as if I need to take walks to decompress and have time to myself. My walks are usually early in the morning ( around 4 am) because that's the only time I feel that no one has any expectations of me.

It's an excellent way to decompress...Although 04:00 is not my ideal time...I need my beauty sleep! I understand your comment though, 04:00 is a peaceful time of the day indeed.

Oh wow impressive! It is quiet at 4 am, I have heard many spiritual people and business people recommending this wake-up hour precisely because no one else is awake and you can be ahead of time

Yes! Thats the exact reason why. No one is expecting anything from you. It is difficult to start though. The first week of waking up was horrible!

Oh I can imagine! I usually wake up around 5 to 6. It feels like I am ahead of the world as I can get more things done

At the end of the day each day I would like to have something constructive to post after some time to reflect but most days I have nothing but more work and can't imagine how I had the ability to post anything the day before. I'm on my way to a friend's art exhibit. The title is "Masked Words".

She calls it a "show"...

I wonder what show is awaiting me this evening.

Only the artist knows.

I hope you have a great time at your friends art exhibit and maybe looking at Masked Words will reveal some words to you that might make their way into a post.

Fish and chips watching the sun go down sounds like a great way to unwind at the end of day.

Today will be a mess, we have no water currently with 'repairs', electricity off again at 16h00 to 18h00, weekly shopping... going in a couple of minutes, not conducive to a productive day at all....

!BEER
!LUV

Oh no, that sound's like a very unproductive day indeed. Maybe you should treat yourself to something nice at shopping, a cake and coffee maybe. It might make you feel better.

Shopping done and dusted, water turned back on in last ten minutes now the electricity off in fifty minutes.

Like playing dodgems getting organized, no time to coffee relaxing everything has to be put into fridge to cool before electricity goes again.

Will swill a !BEER later and watch the birds at play, no sunset tonight being overcast.

Seems like a time-jigsaw puzzle.

Often humans are happy in a place where he is not there, but when he comes to a place, he doesn't like it. So it's better to be grateful for what happened.

What an excellent and thought-provoking comment. Thanks for taking the time to read and reply.

You are welcome my bro

You are so right about "we can't always control life but we can control our attitudes and thoughts and actions in our life". I learn this from my kind boss. He taught me how to see things in a positive way. If I made mistakes, he would tell me it is a good lesson to learn and if I dont make mistakes, meaning I didnt try hard enough and still live in my comfort zone. His words open up my mind. I beat up myself for making mistakes but when thinking it as a lesson and putting effort to learn, I felt much better

Making mistakes is part of the learning process as it's through trying and failing that we think up new ideas, concepts and processes. I think your boss gave you some valuable lessons indeed.

Nice post. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for looking at it and commenting.

I bet your scheduled DOES feel a little crowded now, since you started back to work. Having all of your day to schedule as you please for a good while had to be nice, but now having to fit a work day back in, I can see how it might take a little while to get it all sorted back out.

It sounds like you have a good handle on what it takes to get yourself balanced back out from the day.

Crowded is a good way to out it actually! I'll make it work over time, I'm still ajusting. I take care of myself, physically and otherwise, so generally know how to find the balance I need.

I believe that finding serenity, having a positive attitude about things and thoughts, and cherishing every minute of life are all very important. Even if something horrible happens to me, I believe it is still beneficial. It did, at the very least, assist me in gaining knowledge. Storms, trauma, grief, and despair are all things I adore, and when I meet them head on, I feel strong and at ease.

You're right indeed and taking lessons from all things in life is very wise.

That sunset looks glorious.

It surely was...We're lucky to have some great sunsets here and it's somewhat of a hobby of mine to watch as many as I can. 😉

Thanks for sharing.

You're welcome. 😉

"Tomorrow isn't promised" The best we can do is a live today in a way that we do not regret. Taking life one day at a time and living it the best we can as it comes.
