January Yoga Challenge - Care To Join Me?

When COVID hit, the yoga studios shut. No longer could I go to a class for the guidance of a teacher or to feel a sense of unity and connection in shared breath. Whilst online classes kept us going somewhat, they didn't feed the yogic soul as much as 'the real thing'. After COVID, the landscape had shifted. Studios all over the place shut down, and are still shutting down. The tidal wave of yoga here had ebbed. There was no money in it to sustain yoga teachers any more.

Then, I guess I just stopped practicing. My body was changing in response to menopause and it was hard to find a practice that suited me. Everything seemed to be hot and powerful, the opposite of what I needed, and slipping into a yin space was too quiet for me, forcing me to sit with emotions and feelings I did not want to nor need to. I needed unity of breath and movement to feel connected - hence why I've been surfing much more than intentional, strong asana based vinyasa.

Yet, once a yogi, always a yogi. I still meditated a little, and still went to bed after a few down dogs and other stretches. But there was always that need for accountability - to get back into consistant practice again.

Cue Yoga with Adrienne.

One of the worlds most well known youtube yogis, this Texan woman has been holding these January challenges for ten years now. Day 0 was new years day - time to clean out the yoga room and set an alarm to remember to log on to Youtube every day and get on it!

It doesn't really matter if you skip a day, as long as you practice them in sequence, so if you're just getting to this now, roll out your mat, and do Day 0 and Day 1. Each session seems to be no longer than 20 minutes which is really do-able for all of us. She wants yoga to be accessible to the masses, so don't be thinking you will find it too hard.

Yoga is not my thing, although I have read that it is one of the best practices to improve balance, strength and above all flexibility, what I sometimes do is jogging and stretching my muscles after that, maybe someday I will try yoga 😅

It's worth a shot. I've spoken to men who said yoga was for girls and then after they tried it they became full blown yogis 😊

Hey! That sounds like a great way of starting new year 🤩 A few aches showed up after not stretching much during festive season in December, so a regular practice should do me good. Hopefully I’ll remember to get on it when I get back from work today.

Okay yes let's do it. How can I remind you??? So you can start whenever. Day 0 first. I literally just did day 1 and it was great. Not too hard, and I felt like I had begun something. Right. Everytime I do one I'll come comment on your post to remind you.

Oh shit fuck.

I drove for hours, got lost, saw a rental, missed a trance party, had a small dance and lay on my face. No yoga traspired.

We're pretty bad at reminding each aren't we? Just did Day 6. I don't think it matters when you start, just that at some point you start a month of yoga even if you have a day or two off (which I likely will).

I did try but had to do my own thing because stupid sketchy internet :? And then i was on the road so..er...

But I have been dancing. Always every day.

And you're right, of course. Just get back on "the wagon" and proceed. I think this is a great approach to all the healthy habits we try to incorporate but "forget" when "life" gets too busy ;)

I'll be on it today because I'm getting old and I'm getting wings. And not in a good way!

Hahaha yeah I hear that!!!! This morning I surfed with dolphins and chicks in bikinis and only one of the two made me feel old and fat.

Well Dolphins will do that, you know.

They're so sleek and nimble in the water.

My gym still has a lot of yoga going on and it’s busy, hey try looking at keno on youtube she is pretty awesome too.

Kino is awesome. She is made of spaghetti!!!! Harder to practice with her though. Adrienne is super down to earth.

We all should be able to move like spaghetti, just takes more work

She is, she missed a couple of days with starting back at work so went back to the start. She thinks it is great though!
