Today, I would like to write on a movie that has been talked about a lot by the public. This movie is titled Uncharted and it garnered a lot of hype months prior to its release because the story is based on a popular video game series with the same name and also because of the appearance of Tom Holland among the cast.
I knew about Uncharted well before it was released and after the fact but for some reason I hadn't seen it months after it was released. The movie was released back in February but I just saw it as of recent. Oh well, better late than never, right?
Before watching Uncharted I made sure to stay clear of any spoilers. So now, I am going to present to you my undiluted and hopefully unbiased review of the movie. I hope you keep reading...

About The Movie/Sobre la película
Uncharted is an adventure movie with an Indiana Jones feel to it. The story begins with two orphaned brothers, Sam and Nate Drake, who are really into history and treasure hunting. During one of their operations, they get into trouble that causes Sam to leave their orphanage promising his younger brother, Nate, that he would come back. However, it would not be so.
Many years pass and Nate, now an adult, lives an average life and works as a bartender. When he meets a man named Victor Sullivan (Sully), his flame for treasure hunting is reignited. Nate learns that some lost gold he and his brother were obsessed with was real. He also learns that his brother had been trying to find the gold but went missing. Nate decides to team up with Sully to find the gold and hopefully find his brother.
The crazy adventure begins. Also searching for the lost gold is a rich and powerful family with their mercenaries. Loyalties are tested as greed begins to set in. Many are killed and the search for gold proves to be very difficult. Will Nate find the gold and the most important treasure, his brother? Who will survive the blood bath? Will it be worth it in the end?

My Opinion about the movie/Mi opinión sobre la película.
The first thing I would like to say about this movie is that it was really cliché. If you're a fan of adventure movies like me you may think so too. The story isn't so different from what you'd see in many other adventure movies and so this makes the movie very predictable. You can already guess that the story is about a bunch of people looking for gold. Just like productions of its kind, you will see a treasure map, secret rooms and keys that unlock them, booby traps that were built centuries ago but are still functional for some reason, khakis, and basically any other thing that defines an adventure movie. It is possible that due to the fact that this movie was based on a video game, the producers did not have much room for creativity without diverting totally from the whole idea.
Speaking of which, I've heard people say that Uncharted is a good adaptation of the video game. Now although I haven't played the game personally and don't know much about it, I know enough to agree with that. I've seen people play the video game and seen some videos about it too. After watching the movie I have to say that the similarities are striking. The character of Nate is something that really seemed similar to me. Also, young Nate and Sam are were also properly represented to an extent. There are also scenes that are similar to what you will find in the game. True fans of the video game say that there are a bunch of fun Easter eggs in the movie but I really can't say much about that. If you saw any, let me know in the comment :)

Something that I really love in movies is the good chemistry between characters and great scripting. For Uncharted, the chemistry between Nate and Sully was really good. I liked how they complemented themselves with quick ridiculous lines and actions. Even when they disagreed with each other, this pair was just fun to watch. They just never stop talking and doing stupid stuff.
My favorite character in this movie is probably Sully. I know that Tom Holland's Nate is kind of the main protagonist in the movie and about 45% of the reason this movie was hyped but I have to admit that Sully's character was just unmatched. I'm a huge Mark Wahlberg fan and I don't miss a chance to see a movie he plays in. I did not even know that he was a part of this movie until I saw it. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw him and as expected, he delivered a great performance. I really liked how his character cared mostly about the gold and less about how Nate or anyone else felt. I also like how he struggled to make the right decision but somehow always knew the worst things to say. Definitely not the type of guy you will want to work with.

Another plus for me in this movie is the stunts. The stunts department is where Tom Holland totally dominated with his Nate character. Sometimes I had to remind myself that he wasn't playing Spider-Man because the stunts were really good. The bad thing about these stunts though is that we didn't really get to know where or how he got to learn them. Before the hunt, Nate was just a bartender that could do really cool tricks with bottles and then all of a sudden he's an experienced adventurer facing mercenaries and trained killers. Except for one or two home workout scenes, we were not given any background of his training. For all we know he's just a guy that can beat up bad guys because he's a protagonist. This flaw made the story a little more video-game-based and less natural.
If you decide to just focus on the good stunts in the movie then you will absolutely love the camera movements. The people handling the cameras knew what they were doing. One of my favorite scenes was when they were falling from a plane. The roundabout movement of the camera in the air made me feel like I was the one falling. The scene is terrifying and makes your head spin, in a good way.

Something bad about this movie is how awfully conservative it was with the gore. I understand that the movie was possibly supposed to be family-friendly but I just can't help but feel like it just got ridiculous sometimes. For example, there is a scene where a man's throat was slit wide open but there was no blood gushing out. The guy died pretty and his grey shirt remained unstained. If this guy was really supposed to die and they did not want to show us any blood, it would have been better if he was shot and he fell rather than making a scene so ridiculous. Pushing the guy off the plane would have also done the trick but I guess the producers thought otherwise.
Something that really struck me about this story is how much impact Sam was to it. There are many movies that had characters with short screen-times who were very important to the entire story but something about this one really got to me. Sam had a screen-time of about 3 minutes and 50 seconds but I really felt his presence throughout the movie. We can see how Nate implements the things that Sam teaches him in those 4 short minutes. It was impressive to see how the thought of his brother kept Nate going in his quest. Whether it was to find his brother or finish his work, it was clear that Nate's motivation was his brother all along.

Uncharted is a movie that deals with the topics of greed and trust with an ok storyline. Even though I feel like the movie could have been way better, I enjoyed it and will recommend it. It's the type of movie that doesn't require you to think a lot. All you have to do is sit back, keep your feet up and enjoy it.

Hey my good friend, you know I saw this movie, but only out of curiosity since I'm not a fan of the video game and well that gave me more freedom when I went to see it since I didn't have to compare it with the video game and I know that when it's not the same the true fan usually gets upset and that happens with any other adaptation of comics, manga, video games and even books. I agree with you that it is difficult to create a movie adaptation from games, comics or even books. Also the adventure genre is one that is heavily saturated with clichés. I think these are the problems that hindered the creativity of the crew in this movie given that they already had a story from the game to work with and that type of story had been told in many variations in different movies. Just clichés.
For me, the hype of this movie came from the fact that it was created from the famous game. This is also why Last Of Us is getting so much hype and why Warcraft was hyped but ended up being a flop. I know little about the Uncharted game but I was impressed with a couple of things in the movie that had resemblances with parts of the game that I know.
I don’t know about you but I liked the dialogues 😅 They made me laugh. Or Maybe I just like Mark Wahlberg a little too much.

I'm looking forward to Last Of Us if I've had the chance to play it and well with Mr. (Pedro Pascal) as part of the characters I think it will be great, as long as they follow the thread as with this adaptation I don't think they will have many problems.

Yes it is not very similar to the game but we all know how difficult it is to create movie adaptations of games or comics. If you eventually decide to see the movie just know that there are a lot of clichés. Still, I think you might love the performances by the actors and the dialogues as well.
