Polkadot definitely has a future but it's technology is complicated. Using shards (parachains) connected to a central hub (relay chain) does speed up transaction times and lower transaction costs. However, there are several other projects out there with technology that is easier to implement (Cosmos, THORChain).

I am not too familiar with it. It looks like BSC is taking up a chunk of what is being lost by ETH due to the fees.
There is a lot going on. Hopefully Hive will enter the picture soon.

To be honest, I don't know him well. About DeFi the only platforms I'm familiar with are BSC and Waves.
