Are you new to Splinterlands and searching for some advice, then you found the correct series! In this Beginner’s Guide Series, we are discussing things that new players of Splinterlands should know or try to learn. In this specific episode we will talk about the Ability Weapons Training. I want to show case some cool use-cases and where we can really squeeze everything out with card placement as well as utilizing multiple Splinters. In the end we will even look at an example battle! With that being said, if this article motivated you to start playing this amazing game, then feel free to join the fun over the following link:

Weapons Training!

Let’s start with the Ability itself. Weapons Training is one of the new Abilities that are in the game and they came with the new Reward Cards set. In a nutshell this ability allows us to give the monsters next to our monster half of its attack if they adjacent monsters do not have any attack in the first place. I think it is a very cool angle to give those support cards more value and squeeze even more differences into the game!

The support monsters are always getting the special attacking style of the relevant Weapons Training Ability monster. This means that if a card has the Ranged attacking style, the same attacking style gets transferred over. This brings us to a very interesting niche case. What if we do not surround our Weapons Training Monster with support cards but the other way round! Let’s put Weapons Training cards around our support card! Why? Well you will see in a second.

In order to do that, we definitely need either a Neutral card or the Dragon Splinter as we then can combine two Splinters into one team. Furthermore, we need to make sure that we use two different attacking styles for this experiment to work. Therefore, I chose the Life Splinter with Aves Sturgis as well as the Dragon Splinter with Berix Snakeye.

Cool Use-Case

So why exactly are we using those two? Well, the answer is easy. Thanks to both of these attacking styles being able to attack from anywhere, it means that our support card gets more attack buffs and gets to attack twice a turn. We are basically creating our own double attack monster. Isn’t this cool? I feel like I am nerding out a bit.

Well, in this specific use-case I chose to use the Clockwork Aide. Due to its Ability we are also able to attack quicker and have the potential of dodging more attacks of our component. Yes the card is maybe not the most reliable against magic attackers but this is also why we are trying to protect this card! Since we are using the Dragon Splinter I also chose to take advantage of that and use some of my favorite cards with it.

Djinn Chwala is just an amazing tank with the Thorns Ability. With 3 Melee attack, 9 health and 5 armor, this card is definitely one that has always a merit for usage. Furthermore, we have the Chaos Dragon. Not only because of his 3 mana attack I like to use this card but also because of its 3 speed as well as 10 health combined with 4 armor. As a cherry on top it has the Flying Ability which makes it even usable in Earthquake scenarios.

Example Battle

Now that we outlined our strategy and team, let’s take a look what we were up against. It was a Life team that is definitely not the worst one. Yes, our opponent was on level one which does make the battle a little bit easier but in the end the strategy is more important than the card levels. I think thanks to our support cards as well as the combination of its unique attacking styles we were able to damage our opponent over the top. Just with this Clock alone we were able to deal an additional 3 damage per turn. Isn’t this amazing?

After two rounds it seemed like a very even match up because the number of monsters were very even until this point. From Round three on we were able to see a big difference and how this strategy worked out in our favor. While this might not have been the perfect battle for this use-case, I think that this doubling down on attacking styles does have extreme potential in the future especially with cool support cards that are actually buffing the whole team!
