The end of August has come. Time to say good byes to summer and welcome fall. Green is turning to gold. The nature is gradually transforming into something cool, long awaited coolness. This summer has been so hot in the Pacific Northwest, I am really ready for some significants drops in temperature. Everything has been dropping for several months like: bitcoin and crypto prices have been dropping, traditional markets have been dropping. Two things that did the opposite of dropping were the weather temperature and the inflation. Time for a change. May the coming months bring rise in crypto markets.
One thing that didn't go up or down and remained stable was HBD. It is super impressive how HBD continues to hold its peg to USD. There was a day or two when HBD price went up a little bit or dropped in price a little bit. But those were short lived and the HBD price was pulled back to $1 super fast. These fluctuation from time to time in HBD prices are the evidence that HBD peg is actually working really good. Before it used to take weeks for HBD price to go back to $1. Now it takes couple days or hours.
Hive continues to pay 20% APR for all HBD in Savings. Thirteen top witnesses still have 20% APR set in their witness parameters. This may change in the future, but for know we can keep compounding the interested. We thought paying some APR for HBD would attract more investors and interest to HBD and the Hive blockchain. We believe we have something amazing here. HBD is only one value proposition of Hive. It provides the best algo-coin that exist in the market. It can hold USD peg very well.
Paying APR that is higher than any other ROI that banks may offer or even higher than current inflation rate, should have attracted more people, to at least consider HBD as an investment or savings instrument. At least that's what we thought. The purpose of this post and many monthly reports that came before this were to see how much interest is being paid out by Hive blockchain, and compare the changes month by month. While these number changes are interesting, raising HBD interest to 20% APR hasn't attracted a lot of interest. Sure, number went up a little bit. I was expecting significantly higher interest in earning passive income of 20%. Perhaps, it is just the bear market and everybody is just waiting to catch higher risk/reward opportunities.
August has been uneventful in stablecoins and HBD news. Much of the focus is concentrated around Ethereum and its upcoming Merge transition. Boring is also good. Can't complain when things just work. What doesn't stop is the interest payments. They keep coming, every month. Time to look at the interest payment numbers for August, 2022.

Oh, No! Looks like there was only 45,416 HBD paid out to 2,573 unique accounts. That is a big drops in the total interest payouts compared to July. But it is good to see the number of accounts receiving the payments continues to increase. At this point I am not expecting any significant increases in the coming months. I will be happy to be wrong. Also, if the total HBD payments stay around these numbers and below 100k, Hive blockchain may continue to pay 20% APR for a long time. Because these numbers are affordable for the blockchain.

HBD and the savings are doing great.
HBD is getting distributed more widely to more accounts. A year ago the distribution was very concentrated to a few accounts. Now it is much better.
So true. Wider the distribution the better.
Lol. I was going to be in the top 500 soon enough. However, due to extenuating circumstances I need to muster a total of $1500 HBD by the end of September and that will include my HBD savings. I was growing a solid $125 per month on savings and staking on other tokens too.
But, the $1500 is to instantly get rid of one of my big 4 debts that all of a sudden needs to be paid immediately instead of in parts.
At least a large weight will be off my shoulders.
I shall start again!

It does sometimes feel like a bit of a punch in the gut to empty out that piggy bank.
I had plans to reach certain amounts of savings month after month. (I have a spreadsheet and everything). This would then turn into a notable little passive income generator.
I am really happy though that it is easy to just move forward from there and to start collecting again.
Once I have succeeded in paying this one off, it removes more than 25% of all my considerable debt out of the way. Most of these were managed bits of debt, they had slow and low repayments, and most of them I would have needed to carry for years.
As you say, paying off debt is more important than earning interest... I had not thought of it in that light. Paying this one off does come with a feeling that I will feel MUCH lighter afterward. That part I am excited about.
It has made me wonder if I could do the same with the other debts as well! Maybe I need to focus on that for the next 6 to 12 months and see how my financial situation can be after working on it diligently.
None of this would have been possible without Hive!
This is debatable, but I am a huge fan of living debt free.
I've considered bringing significant outside capital into HBD many times as this is sustainable for the time being, but I am so very risk averse, as those funds are currently offsetting interest in my mortgage.
As one of the top 500 earners in your list, this is a great way to sit and earn something "safely", that will, at some point; likely return to the HIVE eco system in some way or another. (Be that Splinterlands, or a return to HIVE Power and manual curation)
The ramp "out" is the difficult thing (risk wise) as while the market is highly liquid, the minor fluctuations in HBD's price make it unattractive to dump everything I own into HBD and to supplement my other income.
Having said all that, I've been really happy with the returns.
I have also considered converting significant amount of USD from traditional savings funds to HBD. While HBD is low risk, there is still some unknowns we may not have considered to go all in. But there are also risks in traditional funds as well. So, I wouldn't mind converting them to HBD. My concern is 20% APR is not permanent, and it can be discontinued or lowered at any time by top witnesses. For this reason, I haven't decided to go through all the trouble of moving funds.
The second reason I would be hesitant to do something like this is, because I would probably end up buying more bitcoin instead. While HBD is great as a stable passive income, there are higher rewards in bitcoin over time.
For these reasons, I will probably keep things diversified and have a little bit of everything. lol.
Don't put all your apples in the same basket, or something like that. :)
I'm number 143 on the list. I feel like I'm stealing. I'm not a good enough trader to make these kind of yields other ways so 20% is a thrill.

I thought I could be on the list while I have been stacking some HBD from post earnings into my HBD savings account.
I didn't make it last month yet, but maybe next month... I will get there!

With hive being under $1 I think many are speculating they could earn more by converting into Hive and more value is there over the 20% APR of HBD. I tend to think they are right.

Again. I'm not a financial person AT ALL and I'm trying to learn this now at the ripe old age of 51 because well... i flew by the seat of my pants, had a blast and then pretty much lost everything and gave the rest away i exchange for freedom.

Because I'm new here and I like what is happening I've chosen to convert my HBD into Hive Power first. And grow my account and investment here.
Maybe this is why there are less payments out? Is it possible that folks are using the lull to invest and grown their investments? That would be smart, no?
But I don't know how this all works...
So I'm sticking to my plan. Invest in my ability to... well... invest!
And then split it into HBD savings and use the rest to grow a bit more.
Hope I'm being smart here. It doesn't matter much. I'm in it for the duration and the long haul so.
While money isn't the most important things, there is more freedom when one reaches financial independence and become debt free.
Growing the Hive Power is smart, especially in the beginning. I have always converted my HBD to Hive Power until the interest payments were started for HBD. Now, I like to have both. Hive Power as primary investment, and HBD as a hedge.
Interest payments for HBD were always in the code, but witnesses only last year started to implement it. HBD is a great experiment, that's why I like to keep track of the progress and changes.

I just been collect the HBD by writing in my blog and sent to saving in next month. Now still collect to 10 HBD. NEW comer so a little support me.

Getting larger amounts of HBD on the internal market is not the easiest.
You can always buy Hive and convert to HBD. But also I think HBDStabilizer sells decent amount daily.
The slow adoption is beneficial to those who take advantage of the 20% interest as we have a great deal of room to grow.
Once I reach some HIVE goals, I'll be switching my power-ups to HBD deposits.

I need to grow more with hive and so i am collecting everything i can. Hope i will fulfill my goal in hive. Good day.
Growing account equity with Hive is definitely a good strategy. Hive has great upside potential, while HBD is just limited to 20% stable dividends which may also be discontinued at any time.
Even though I have some hbd in my savings I did not see any extra hbd added. Do you know what may be the reason?

There should be some HBD activity in the account to trigger the interest payment. For example sending a very small amount from savings to liquid can trigger it. However, it is still earning interests, it just hasn't been paid out yet. Interest payments happen once every 30 days.

It's too bad that the amount dropped but its always nice to see more users come in. I was also able to find my own name on the list but I am nowhere close to the top 100.

Interest payout day is always exciting. The ones at the top of that list - it's like: damn, that would be nice each month. Lol
I think the top recipient used to get 10k a month. Not bad indeed.

I will point out a small range or difference about the payments between those of 2021 and August 2022 and all I can say is that 2022 payments looked a little better. Thank you for the information.

You could comfortably live just on the interest of the first account ...dang :) it would be a dream come true but that's a long way away
My monthly HBD interest payout is over 5 now ;)
