Many platforms have recommended browser/device combinations, say Brave on Desktop, Safari on iOS and Chrome on Android devices. Wouldn’t this be an easier way than trying to fix everything everywhere?

That's a good point. I believe it would be a good idea to have a recommended browser and make sure the experience is great there. At least to start with
