2021 Toned Silver High Relief Samurai Round by Ragnarök Metals

”Blackbirds tend to like shiny things.” ~ The Bloody Raven

I can’t say I wasn’t envious seeing this flaunted in front of the Instagram Stacker community back in Sept 2021. The victorious Nyssacat373 then displayed it on our little DrWho Discord group before showing up in my Christmas package 💋. During our Discord unboxing he didn’t see my reaction, but I did do the Face palming, “OMG.” 🤦‍♀

The Samurai Round

High Relief Samurai Round

High relief Samurai helmet and mask, weaver's pattern
105.29g, 0.999 Fine Silver
Diameter 45mm, Thickness 13mm

This Samurai Helmet (Kabuto) and full Mask (Somen) is typical of head gear of Samurai Lords and Noblemen. Though more common is the half face mask (Menpo) that protect from the cheeks down to the chin. The mask portrays bravery and fierceness to his peers and command while inciting terror upon his opponent or enemy.

The Helmet decoration usually identifies and signifies the wearer’s prestige and power. There are prominent historical and famous clans or individuals like Honda, or Yukimura Sanada that bear the deer antlers but with a much larger flourish. The horns represented on this round may be generically representative of a Noble of lesser rank.

I think the facial decorations suggest this may be modeled after Samurai masks used in Japanese Kabuki theater.

On this round, the full helmet features are distinct; The textured protective dome (Hachi), brim or visor (Mabizashi), Ear wings (Fukikaeshi) and Neck guard (Shikoro).

The level of quality and detail of this marvelous round can’t be done by pouring alone but by the Lost Wax process. Burnished, and toned for that aged look as if it existed since the Tempō era?
3.25 Troy oz were used to make this a hefty chunky ‘palm-satisfying’ feel like just the right size.
And I love the feel so no Air-Tite for this baby.

Edge; Plain
Size comparison to a Japanese Trade Dollar
Mintage: Unique pour to Ragnarök metals

Viewing from the edge you can judge the height of the High relief. The edge itself is left plain and rough with only the flashing removed for comfortable handling.

Is this worth getting?

This Samurai round sits squarely in the realm of collectable, and not for the pure Stacker. The pouring Community can arguably consider this as ART! I have no ideal of it’s final purchase price knowing Nyssacat’s Instagram Intsa-bid of BIN! (But It Now) A secret only known between himself and Ragnarök, I can safely assume it is a well-earned Artist’s premium.
As far as I know, this is a One-of-a-kind from the Maker himself so if you are interested, you'd have to ask Ragnarok.

As an admitted ‘Weeaboo’, and I do appreciate the Japanese culture. This would be a No Brainer for the Bloody Raven and her poured Silver Collection.

I am Mintauru: Excerpt of "The Karasu"

As his Court officials and officers file out from his Hall, two men remained.
In unison both Tomo and Matori bowed to Lord Hideaki. As faithful advisors to the Hideaki clan for four generations, such service earned an impromptu meeting before Hideaki.
The Japanese lord allowed them the benefit to air their concerns.

“Captain Yuici is one of your best and loyal Samurai, only a demon could possibly beat him. You also witnessed an unknown technique she demonstrated; it is evil. I implore you not to bring this creature into our Castle.” Tomo bowed again in respect.

Hideaki then shifts his eyes to Matori, his Advisor nods, “Hai, she bears the Mintauru name, a dishonored name. The washed-up Ronin for hire swordsman Takashi and his invalid tool maker brother Kobeyashi. They are only up to no good conjuring demons to add to their tarnished reputation. Such a deal would only endanger you and your house my lord.”

Lord Hideaki took a patient sip of tea before answering. “My rival Lord Ono is reported to have Ninjutsu assassins hired to harm me or my family for not backing his plans before the Shogun last Summer. These men are reputed to be extremely skilled and are known to fulfill their contracts in blood. My ally Lord Genroku attests to that fact and forced his hand to back that ambitious Lord. I cannot do as he did even at the price of my soul, demon or not Lady Mintauru's unique skills will be my insurance. There is more at stake than my clan.”

I am impressed. These coins are so exquisite. As you mentioned that the aged look, it only can be done by the lost wax process.Thats over 3oz of silver for the samurai round !

3+ Epic oz. of silver that represents a 55 days wages for a typical rank & file samurai.
I'm not entirely sure how much they are paid except it is in the form of these little silver bars.

thanks for dropping in to comment @olympicdragon

Oh thank you, I didn't know that they got paid in silver. But I remember in some documentary in the olden days, most warriors did get salary in some form of metals. They are a guaranteed means of payment, like we use fiat money !

I wouldn't doubt that Lords and Paymasters had to issue promissory notes in times that silver is often in short supply. Japan has not been blessed with a lot of mineral resources.
I have seen illustrated books of Japanese mints managed by Samurai of certain rank and loyalty. Each of the little bars bear the Mint name, and the mint master's surname.

Holy wow 😍
That is a really special piece for sure. I Loove the old look and coins with details like this is a favorite of mine.
And I mean that Samurai just kick ass... Great choice and I am only a tiny jelly 😜 actually VERY 😁 lol
Thank you for sharing and making me add a new piece to my wish list.
Funny to cause I just started watching the serie Ragnarök on Netflix 😜 Buwahahaha

Have a wonderful sunday sis and MUCH love to You 🥰❤️😍

You may have to politely ask Ragnarok Metals as this may be a unique piece. The Link to the Website is up in the Sources. He has other wickedly awesome products available. This round represents just the second of three silver pieces of art from Ragnarok, formerly ffc-Texas. Cool stuff especially to stir the Viking spirit in your blood.

Thanks for the support Sis! @silversaver888 ❤️

I love, L-O-V-E you stack, sis @kerrislravenhill ❤️!!!

Now that is completely badass Kerris. No way that detail is from a pour alone. I agree lost wax is the only way. While there might be more then one, no two will be the same. And yours is a truly awesome one. Congrats

You can check out Ragnarok's web page and get an ideal of his Silver Art, some products he can machine from a CNC universal Milling machine. It looks like an expensive piece of equipment employed for situations where pouring can't do.

‘palm-satisfying’

I bet it's a good one. Never heard of Ragnarok, but definitely am impressed from your showing here. Gonna have to look them up!

How very nice for your collection @kerrislravenhill! It is intricately done and understand the 'palm satisfying feel' description. Very chunky but very nice and one of a kind to boot. You are a lucky gal!
💜🤗Thanks for sharing sista, and have a lovely week!

I'm putting up silvery decorations all over the comments section.

I like @kerrislravenhill ....spreading the Silver Cheer!!!🤗

I saw this Ragnarok movie (Thor Odin etc) thsi weekend on TV. I now know what a Valkery is. A lady a kind like you! i.e. Loving metal and lethal when provoked ;)

My third piece from Ragnarok just happens to be the Valkyrie!

Metal pieces are better than fiat because its made components have value and price, while others are just papers that may be torn in my opinion. What do you think 🤔

Metal has had value since the beginning as tools, weapons, and as money.
For the last 8,9,10 years I hoarded old pennies and nickles knowing full well the eventual effects of Inflation, see Coinflation. You see that even an old penny commodity value is worth more than it's face value.
Fiat currency is but a mere representation, a promise of value, a promise subject to human rationalization and abused out of power and greed. With crypto I prepare for the world's biggest rug pull scam organized by the powers-that-be.

Just when I have seen all the beautiful silver art, at least those that I can afford, then comes another must have coin or round just around the corner.

2021 Satosan Metals 1 Troy Oz. Tsukiakari Moonlight Silver Round

Thanks for visiting, @trumpman

I’m not a big fan of “junk silver”. I started out as a coin collector, so looking at a coin that’s completely worn looks horrible to me. I have a bunch of Morgans and Peace dollars aside from graded ones, that look like your pictures or better. But they aren’t junk or just silver either.

When I first started in 2015, my strategy had a 2 pronged tactic, what cash I could spare over my Emergency Cash reserve I'd put into 80% Legal tender Bullion and 20% Silver Junk. The Junk is set aside for Emergency commerce.
Since then I have changed that more into 50% Legal Tender bullion and 50% into collecting as I feel I have a more than adequate stack.

Did you know that the US Mint is canceling the 2022 Morgan and Peace Dollar program? Because of lack of planchettes. Darn it.

Thanks for commenting @nildighonto

WOW!

That round is stunning. It deserves its own little glass box with a velvet backing and down light like at a museum. 😍

I don't have a fancy display but I happen to be scouring the my Thrift shops for a Japanese styled jewelry box as a Treasure chest for my Samurai Treasures.

Thanks for dropping in @dfinney ❤️
