I was wondering when it makes sense for someone to set voting power to a small percentage (say, 5%).

One situation would be when someone has a large amount of Hive Power (or Leo Power here) and needs to scale down voting power to make sure the upvote is still a good amount. The veterans here know what I'm talking about.

Another situation would be if voting power is close to being depleted. That would be more common for someone in my situation where my HP/LP is in 3 digits.

I'm asking because I've been seeing a large number of upvotes set at 5% yet the HP over the voters is barely at dust threshold or beneath it. Most of these upvotes come from new Hivers, but some come from Steemian-era Hivers who haven't been active on the blog side in a long time.

Once day I want to adjust my voting percentage to a small number because my HP is large; I'm not there yet, so I still keep at at 100%.

There could be some curation trails I picked up in recent weeks, in which case people may not even know about their voting power percentages.

What other situations make it understandable to set voting power to 5%?

Good point. It's like you get 200 votes and have like 0.43 as payout. It's kind of like as good as no vote.

i think i have a similar goal with my pob stake since it is growing a lot faster than I expect and hopefully on leo. since I get my pob stake to the point I want I follow most of my resources on leo.

Stay consistent with your posting at LeoFinance and PoB, and your overall earnings will increase and you can stake more.

My Layer 1 earnings are good enough for a day on the town, but may Layer 2 earnings (mostly LEO and POB) are 5 times my Layer 1 earnings. Now it feels strange when I post or comment using Ecency/PeakD/Hive.Blog.

You might want to split up your comments into several smaller comments! 😏

Specifically, set your main comment as the top-level comment, then break down your paragraphs into separate comments below the top one. 🤓 That way, you would promote more engagement because users here on #LeoMarketTalk would find it easy to read your statements and choose which ones to reply to. 😅

For comments that turn out to be epic I already turn those into their own posts.

Different topics get their own comments.

If everything in the comment is intertwined, the comment has to stay whole. No one likes to read 20-line paragraphs (especially on mobile), so I break up paragraphs into smaller pieces.

For example, perhaps you want to separate the "I'm asking because..." as a comment under your top-level comment. 🤔🤓

Regarding your recommended voting power percentage, I have a unique way of voting. 😅 For my favorite authors, I often vote at 100%; for posts or comments that are not bad, I normally vote at 1% (now at 5% so that @dustsweeper will pick up my dust votes and sweep them for me and let the recipient of my vote get at least $0.013 total author rewards), usually to indicate that I have read the comment and I find it okay or better. 😀

Since I said that it is better to split a comment into multiple ones, I have separated my replies to your (top-level) comment into two (or probably more). 😅

Very good question. Never really thought about it as I just vote the way I want to vote. 🐬

In your case, you know what you're doing. You're controlling not only what to reward the author but also the curation reward you earn for your upvote.

Many people, mostly new Hivers but not necessarily, are just going on autopilot and in the process cheating themselves of earnings. It's leaving money on the table, and in the case of new Hivers trying to get themselves established it's taking longer than necessary to pass the dust threshold.

That is why I used to suggest all the time for new folks to check out @theterminal. The team has devoted themselves to helping new users to navigate STEEM, HIVE and Discord. They have been doing it for a number of years. They are a great bunch of folks.

There are many more folks. The most unintentional secret on the blockchain. Yet the team is gold to a person that is new.

@sgt-dan,

Appreciate the shout-out!

Encourager Extraordinaire has a nice ring to it... is that French? 😁 But all kidding aside, thank you. I have always tried to just "be me" and help when I can... stay quiet when it's appropriate, and spread positive energy. Always good to hear from you brother!

Thank you for the shout-out! 😊

That's good to know. I've been to The Terminal a few times, and probably tagged it in a couple of posts. I should promote promote The Terminal on D.Buzz and in my "signature" for posts I make.

You get a raise! Well, twice your current salary which is now doubled is 0.00 x 2 = 0.00. Works within my budget! 😏

I'd buy that for a dollar!
