How To Increase You Results On Hive

in LeoFinance2 years ago

We all were there.

You start on Hive, with no following. The first post you put together is a masterpiece. You spend a great deal of time on it and hit publish. As the day goes by, nobody is upvoting your post. It is almost as if they did not see it.

The last sentence is likely the reality.

With Hive, we are dealing with social media. Content creators need to realize a great deal of the success, in addition to writing articles that people are interested in, is gaining a following. This is true for those on Twitter, YouTube, and Facebook. And yes, Boo Boo, it is also true on Hive.

So how can you increase the number of people who see your articles thus increasing your earnings?

Here are a few tips that should help out.

image.png

Join A Community

If you are writing about something specific, see if there is a way to tag an appropriate community.

Here is a couple of examples:

  • Writing about business, investing, or affiliate marketing, use #leo and #ctp.
  • Posting about something to do with STEM, use that tag for StemGeeks

There are also some generic tags you can use such as #proofofbrain, #pal, and #neoxian that could help get a bit more exposure on your post.

Of course, be careful of tag-spamming. If doing something with cooking, that does not warrant the #stem tag.

Also, if you use some of the associated front end, like Leofinance or CTPtalk, you will find the people there will be receptive to you if you get involved and show dedication to the community. It will not happen overnight but it is a way to get to know people.

ListNerds

The second way to get more attention is to use ListNerds. This is an opt-in email project that allows people a way to "earn" emails that can be sent out. If one gets active in there, he or she can get the ability to send a weekly email out to thousands of addresses.

While many of these are not active, it is not uncommon for an email sent out on ListNerds to get 100 or so views. Often that is not based upon the author of the email. People are actually incentivized to open the emails.

Not only will this get more readers and comments (the ListNerds community is good about commenting), just the process could earn you some ListNerd tokens. here is an example of where one is rewarded for marketing his or her own stuff.

You can sign up here.

POSH on Twitter

This is another incentive on Hive to share content, this time outside the ecosystem. POSH is designed to reward people in both HIVE and POSH. When one sends out his or her own stuff, the HIVE portion goes to the Decentralized Hive Fund (DHF). However, if the work of others is send out, any upvotes the automated POSH comments receives goes to those who shared it.

Here is a fresh article on some tips about using POSH.

Again, here is a project whereby one is potentially rewarded for marketing content. The incentive structure is such where one can get a few more followers, some tokens or coins, and become part of the community that is looking to help get Hive some attention.

Be sure to link your Twitter account here if you are going to POSH.

Drop The Post On LeoThreads

This is a relatively new addition to Hive, one that is still in early beta. That said, it is a microblogging feature that will allow you to drop the link to your post along with a few words.

Just like with sending something out on Twitter, the #thread might catch the attention of a few more readers. Since LeoThreads is still not heavily populated, it is easy to stand out. Keep posting there on a daily basis and some will get to know you. Engagement on Hive is key.

It should come as no surprise that #threads are also eligible for rewards. Since they are the same as comments on a blog post, they operate under the Proof-of-Brain mechanism. This means any value tied to the upvotes is split 50/50 between author and curators (those upvoting).

Since it is done on the Leofinance.io front end, one can receive both HIVE and LEO. Naturally, this is not going to make anyone rich but we are seeing some people get a few cents here and there for their #threads. Again, over time, that all starts to add up.

Even though the Leofinance community is focused upon investing, finance, and cryptocurrency, the #thread feature is open to any content. So while your article about cats is not appropriate for the #leo tag, it is perfectly acceptable to send the link out on #threads. LeoThreads is a general purpose feature meaning it accepts all genre of content.

You can start your threading here.

In Conclusion

These are a few tools that are available to content creators on Hive. None of them are magical solutions that will suddenly set you on the path to retirement. Like anything in life, success on Hive comes from effort, engagement, and spending time building. However, these features could help anyone, especially new people, get a bit more attention.

This is not a get-rich-quick scheme. However, for those who understand the concept of content creation and marketing, Hive is forming a nice plate of tools for people to use. Over time, we are going to see more added. For this reason, it is good to get in early and start making a name for oneself.

As always, one of the best ways to get noticed on Hive is to comment on the articles other post. Engagement is not a one-way street. If you seek to help out others, some will, in turn, begin to return the favor.

These are just a few ways to increase your results on Hive.

Hey, @taskmaster4450, great list, but, there's another point I'll love to add.

And that's @dreemport. You can get visibility in a few steps. Create an account, verify your mail, read only five posts daily, add your post to the submission link, and get others to visit you too. It's a win-win for everyone. And @dreemsteem is doing a great job bringing us together with amazing and interesting collaborations every month.

How to use dreemport

Dreemport and Dreemers deserve far more support than they get!

Using Ecency and joining the Ecency Discord is a friendly way for new users to gain attention!

I completely agree!

Ecency also helps to keep one active in the blockchain with their numerous initiative to help one's account grow

I am using Ecency, I love it. I love the credit you earn too. Thanks for coming to my aid earlier this week.

Ecency has some interesting things going on from what I read. I dont use it but I see a lot of people who like it.

Honestly, hmmm I was thinking if I should write this. But I will do. I think that most of our big hive fishes dont really see the potential Ecency has to bring the hive world to "normal" internet users. In my eyes ecency is always treatened a little bit like the part of hive wich is for kids to play.

But its not at all. Both, desktop and mobile app work great, almost every week a new feature is added and for many people like me who come here without any understanding for the crypto world, ecency was the doorway to step into and learn about it.
Not to talk about the great helping and friendly "boss" and community wich stand behind it.
Maybe you try it out one day and if you now are curious, for example what you can do with your ecency points, you find us in https://discord.gg/6gRFjBkC
Greetings :-) B.

Even though they might ignore us, we are growing every day! ♥️

I know I enjoy using it daily... for posts, commenting, for upvoting, and for so very much more.

I use Ecency every day on my phone and my PC. I don't post with my phone but I use the comment and vote function all the time. I only post with my PC. But I know people who do even post with their phones. Not every person has a PC but most people have a mobile phone with internet. Therefore the Ecency app is their gateway to web3 and Hive. This is a huge advantage for Ecency over other frontends.

Regardless of a laptop or a smartphone, I think Ecency is the only hope for a beginner to assuage its expectation. Albeit it takes time to build those points, still worth it, consider a beginner.

You are right, Ecency is really beginner friendly and the community / discord is very helpful.
This is the second time I read it takes 'time' to build those points. I never had any problems with points. You get points for nearly every interaction on Hive. I tell people all the time, they have to engage with other people and posts. If you do that regularly, you get enough points every day.

I said "it takes time" in the context of the expectation a Beginner generally has. But if you really look at how the points are working both at the micro and macro level, the dynamics encourage the beginner to engage in Hive from the get go. Because with every comment & vote, you keep earning those points which later you may use to boost. Ecency should get more support from the DHF.

Well said! I see new people on discord every day and Ecency is growing. Also, the devs are working on Ecency constantly. I think they don't even sleep at all. 😏
Have a great day!

Haaaa this one cracked me up! 🤣 Not sure if this was the right moment to use the word cracked, but ohh well...

Hahaha true xD

It uses the corporate speak or it doesn't get the vote!

What is the Corporate speak?
Please get under the table? :P

We can discuss that vote, once you assume the position.

Corporate speak is what you have to talk in order to stay employed by a corporation.
If you speak dissent, or freely, you get canceled.

What position? xD

Well. Depends on the country, company and who you are :D

I say whatever the fuck I want.
The consumer is never right

Well, the beauty of Hive is that nobody owns all of it and the views held by people who own most of it are different. So get closer to those who say the things you are saying

Wheres the fun in that?

I would rather just sell myself as a hooker to the Chinese.

Lol...How much are the Chinese paying hookers these days...?😅

Lol, might not work for too long!

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I guess that depends on how strong my sucking skills are

Sucking is never enough, you need to practice blowing as well!

That might be correct xD

Engagement is the time honored way. I'm not sure making a lot of top-level posts is even a good idea as a beginner. Sure, making a few is a good idea for your new followers not to see an empty blog, but it is smartest to first drop a lot of high-quality comments.

If you find a good community like Hive open mic and STEM it helps too. If you add that to good engagement then I think you'll be good too

That is true. Curators look at what is posted to communities including posts from authors without much following.

Exactly.

It cant hurt for a beginner but one should look to other areas. Commenting and now, LeoThreads is a great place to start.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Can't agree anymore...posting top-quality posts by spending so much time for a beginner, and to even starting it from scratch is a non-starter, to be honest.

It's not the post that wins u attention here, Ur cumulative daily moving of your engagement wins u in Hive. Of course, it takes time to adapt to this environment and remain effective. But what is mentioned in this article, although I respect the inputs, it's still less effective. The only effective way is consistent engagement.

We've always preached that!

A few good posts are important, but for beginners and newbies??? Commenting, COMMENTING, COMMENTING! is so IMPORTANT. Engage. Comment, and then respond, after someone comments back. And not just, "Nice post" but really comment.

Am so impressed by this post. I have been on Hive in less than 3 months, this post and attached links is an eye opener.

After leaving office today I will ensure I see to the end of the links to add more knowledge.

Thanks for sharing.

Cheers

I've seen some of these things in HIVE blogs, such as List Nerds and POSH, but never took the time to learn more about what they are. Thanks for compiling and summarizing these great resources in one article!

They are worth the time to look into.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I didn't realize that the PAL community was still even around. I haven't heard much from them lately or seen many people use the tags. I guess they do though if you mentioned it. I might have to circle back that way.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I am not sure it is. I put it in there because I think you can still use the tag.

Either way, if you get some PAL, it is a token that gets dumped a lot.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Ah, okay. I don't usually have extra tag space anyway I guess!

Great advice man! This kind of post was very helpful to me when I started out not so long ago.

.

I am going to add a bookmark for list nerds and posh to check them out soon enough. Lots of information out there...but I trust yours the most.

It is a good project. Takes time, like most things. Have to get involved and support it before it really pays off. But it can have a great impact.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

The homepage has a video that is not working...I've made an account.

Dropping you posts on #LeoThreads is a great way to get some eyes. Even better than sharing your blogs on Twitter.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I tend to upvote them on Threads.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Consistency is the key and engagement helps to keep it active while showcasing oneself regularly. It is definitely not easy to start achieving success here without working towards it and been on and off can also delay such progress so I believe activeness also matters.

Without a doubt. That should be at the top of the list. If this was more into the what it takes to succeed on Hive, consistency would be the first thing mentioned.

Thanks for bringing it up. Cant overstate that point.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

that is true success does not come overnight you have to work to achieve it and there are many examples like the ones you share with us. Although a lot of followers doesn't guarantee it either, just remember to write in the right community and if you can show your posts in some other social network it would also be very helpful.

Not sure what you mean by tagging a community, tags are pretty much useless by now and just tagging a specific "community" such as the ones that add their ID in the tag won't actually get your post added onto the community, you have to post into it. Either by going to the community page and hitting the "new post" button or by already being subscribed to it and choosing it in the dropdown list when writing a post. I think we should try and use the word community to mean the community feature as it's quite a broad meaning in general when the one we want to talk about is kind of like a subreddit, unless we come up with a better word to rename it such as "subhive" and then call tags for tags and tribes for tribes. (I admit communities is not the best name, we seem to be good at naming things with many different and broad meanings; hive.)

I'd go as far as saying that tagging and posting into generic communities such as the ones you listed in the post or gems/ocd will get you even less engagement/views/possible curation than posting within communities of the appropriate niche/genre your post is about. You're more likely to be ignored/skipped as a newbie posting into those as many don't want to risk voting on someone who may be plagiarising, or you just get lost in the masses or the firehose effect.

Anyway, mainly wanted to correct you here:

When one sends out his or her own stuff, the HIVE portion goes to the Decentralized Hive Fund (DHF).

This is only true if you upvote the comment yourself as it counts as selfvoting. If you share your own posts and others vote the comment up you still get the Hive and Posh rewards depending on how the tweet performed.

Thanks for the clarity on the POSH particulars. I get it now. So sharing your own content is still paid in HIVE and POSH if other upvote the comment. However, if you upvote it yourself, that goes to the DHF.

As for the communities, yeah I think we are crossing different ideas. I was referring more to the front end (tribes) if you will as opposed to the community feature on Hive.

Personally I like the name Sub-Hives. I think it makes sense, has a nice ring, and people understand it.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Great post. I am reblogging to spread the great info. Thanks for sharing.

I totally agree with all these.

I also think people should try to get someone to guide them.

Discord is one place that people don't use even though a lot of hivers hang out there.

I have not used listnerds yet but intend to use them in the future.

Engagement will definitely boost people up

ListNerds is an interesting project. Like most, it requires time to build up the ability to send emails. Have to have the CTP token.

A lot going on with Hive.

Hmmmm... I will look it up as I am currently into affiliate marketing right now

You should, it works better than I can explain it, and at some point, I'm sure this community will explode. "Affiliate marketing" on the blockchain, did you see this anywhere else?

Hmmmm...i guess I might have been missing out on something really nice

Yeah, it sounded lot like affiliate stuff

Don't know if I missed it in this post but one thing I live by since I joined.

Post every single day. Show up every single day.

No Excuses.

This is really an interesting read and the comment section got me interested even more.

I wish we have some sort of algorithm which could say who is a content consumer in reality, I mean if there is a way to count how much a guy spends on an article before moving to the next. Of course, this could be manipulated by the fake reader to deceive. Still, we need to strengthen the idea of content consumers and that too within the community.

I need to get better and use some of those options to get more exposure to my blog posts. I haven't touched listnerds or threads much lately.

Join A Community

(Heading in original)

This is important, especially for people used to WordPress-style blogging. Without joining a community, posting only to the blog with only topic tags won't do much.

New Hivers can't just join any community, though. They need to join a community (tribal or not) which meets these 2 criteria:

  1. "Many" members (definitely not 6 members);
  2. Frequent activity-- 1000 members who haven't posted in a year is virtually an inavtive group.

Drop The Post On LeoThreads

(Heading in original)

Just as many bloggers using WordPress also use Twitter and Instagram, Hivers can use-- along with #LeoThreads-- D.Buzz and LikeTu. D.Buzz is the microblogging dApp Hivers had been using to post buzzes. The LikeTu dApp is Hive's equivalent of Instagram. Both D.Buzz and LikeTu can also be accessed by Ecency, PeakD, and Hive.Blog.

Over time, more dApps are released to bring Web2 features to Hivers.
