General Motors Going The Way Of Nokia

▶️ Watch on 3Speak

Where is General Motors going? If history is any indication, it might be looking like Nokia by the end of the decade.

In this video I discuss how a strategic misstep hurt both companies. Nokia missed the entire switch to the smartphone. GM did the same thing with EVs, ignoring the threat. This is going to hurt them since they are starting the process after most others.

Sort:

General Motors can go to hell in a high speed elevator. After what they did to their investors during the first months of the Obama reign of error I won't have anything to do with them.

As for Prius. My daughter in law owned one. Nice care but, unlike ICE, it has a limited life. Once the battery is old it has to be replaced and THAT takes a LOT of money. She learned that the hard way and didn't buy a second one.

Did I mention batteries? That's the crux of the matter. Electric Vehicles need much better batteries. End of story.

My rule of thumb. "If an industry required a subsidy to compete then it's not ready for prime time."

EV's are nice for Urban driving. In rural west Texas? Not so much.

GM is an old company and they are slow to change. I am not really surprised because they were propped up near the top thinking that nobody could overtake them. Lagging behind isn't so bad but it's hard to play catch up even with all the extra money laying around.

As long as we have plenty of oil, I don't see the point of EVs, other than being fancy. An EV with close to decent battery life is well above $50,000. You can buy way better ICE cars imo for that cash. I can drive for 1,200 km with one tank, I would probably need to charge a Tesla three times to do that. I get your take in catching up with the head starters. That's going to be a hard task for general motors. Even Daimler and Volkswagen are going to have a hard time with catching up with Tesla.

the world turns and we must work with that aspect from the big companies to the smallest, technology is the thermometer that tells us the direction which we should take
