RE: Weekend-engagement topic week 24: Passions [Get paid for yours]

I'm gonna write down my comment before I get too carried away answering comments here and forget to do the other thing I'm supposed to do.

I have a passion for building things. It is something I've been doing since I was little. Most of my toys were things you build and rearrange as you wanted. I remember once we went to the house of a friend of my parents and were playing with their kid (my brother was with me). This kid had some kit to build a kind of rocket or something like that (details are fuzzy). And he hadn't open it yet because he thought it was difficult. He said it was too difficult for a kid. I remember my brother told him "I bet my brother can build this thing before we leave". And it happen I built it. The kin then went to show it to his parents and they were surprised, but said "you didn't build this, right?" And the kid pointed at me. Ah, I still remember my Construct set to build Dinosaurs. I was 9 years old. My grandpa took me to the store to buy it because I got perfect grades that years. It was bliss.

Of course you can guess (those of you following this series of posts), that it was a no brainer getting into building things like. Which gets me to the next point: music. My grandmother was used to dance at festivals. You know Venezuela has Joropo, but there are different types. I'm from the east, so she was a dancer of this kind of joropo that involves a lot of turns and diagonal moves. I grew up listening to that kind of music and that's why I became a musician. I love folk music. Not only Venezuelan, but from other countries. I was in two musical groups during my time at college: a traditional Venezuelan music group, and the University's Choir. Both have been amazing experiences. With the band I was able to go to Colombia representing Venezuela in a musical festival and also record a album. That's one of prized possessions: an album that has my name listed among the musicians. With the choir I learned about singing and also conducting. So much that I got the right to conduct the choir the day of my graduation. I love music!

The third passion is eating. I. LOVE. FOOD. And I'm a good cook, so I can make delicious food for myself and for people I care for. I also love my mom's cooking style and my grandma's. I wish I was able to make food as good as theirs, but I think this is just some subjective dimension of measuring things that I would get past. I like trying new food and learning how to make them. And let's leave it like that before I turn this comment into a post.

Making things, singing and food...You should combine them all by making food and singing about what you're making. Don't sing and eat though, you might choke! 😉

Working with our hands is something we are slowly losing as a society; Everything is pre-made, processed and packaged so people don't have to be as independent. It's good to have some skills though, to be able to turn one's hand to the creation of something we need like a tool, food or other such item. I mean the human race has thrived through our ability to make things, to think up what we need and create it, but these days so many simply don't know how to do it.

Cooking is a good example. Here almost everything is available pre-made and so many don't cook anymore, they heat up, or order it delivered...Back when I was a kid my mum made everything, not butter and oil, milking cows and things, but meals for sure, even bread. If we needed something we grew it or made it...These days it's all available at the shop.

They say humans are more clever these days but I disagree...How many know when to plant seeds just by the change in weather, or how to preserve the harvest to ensure there's enough for the winter...Some for sure, but not many....Smart phones and the internet haven't made us smarter, just more reliant upon others.

Anyway, thanks for your great answer this week, and for supporting the community.

We are smarter in a sense, but knowledge has become too specific to be integral. That's why hand labor is fading away and being replaced by commodities. It is a shame. Some people don't get to taste the flavor of bread you made with your hands.

Thanks for the activity. It is a cool place to meet some new friends.

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

Your passion for music certainly comes through in your post. Music is the food that feeds the soul so I was not surprised to see you enjoy food experimentation also.

Certainly. That would explain why I get so hungry when I'm not listening to music.

Waoooo, you are very talented, making things with your hands is very difficult, and requires a lot of patience and dedication. That's why you are an artist.

hahahahha I don't know why I didn't imagine that you also played guitar if you have a grip on your hand in the picture, and you know how to build them. hahahah I wish I could learn to play.

And food, yeah! I think we all love food, but i love eating, not making it hahahahahaha

Ha, ha, ha. It takes an artist to spot another.

There's a lot f time to learn things in life. You could do it, too. I mean it only takes some minutes a day to learn the basics and put them together.

Ha, ha, ha. Eating food is way better than making it for sure. But both are fun.

I am seriously thinking of learning piano, because my hands are too delicate for the guitar hahaha

And about food, i prefer making deserts, heaven.

Well, any instrument is hard on your hands in it's own way. I think only harmonic is easy on the hands because you just need to hold it.

I like desserts, but I'm more of a savoy food eater. Even though, I'm a good pastry and desserts cook.

Your passion for making things (including music) is just obvious through your writing and your posts. I have ideas for things and have seen some of them made, but I'm not much of a maker myself. It helps to have friends that are welders and machinists and like that :)

I am however, also an eater! I love eating so I've gotten to be a pretty good cook over the years. My mother made sure that all three of her boys knew how to get around the kitchen, and all of us are pretty good. Better than either of my sisters!

It's a great answer, and now it's time to eat. See how that works?

It works on perfect timing. Ha, ha, ha. That's the best part of it!

Well, it surely helps having friends that can build stuff. I have some of my handtools to craft stuff because my great grandfather was a shipwright. Although some of the tools have been disappearing over the years I managed to get my hand of some of them.

I gotta say your mom was a lady of vision. She knew hunger never ends, so people better be ready to face that problem.

Some would say that my mom knew that she raised at least one asshat son and the chances of him having somebody to cook for him all the time were not good so she taught him (them) to cook so they could stay alive :)

Again, that woman was a visionary! 😂

Your passion are amazing, I love the part that you have passion for building. Just as you are a musician, I hope you learn some dance steps from your mom?

Ha, ha, ha. Dancing is like a lost cause for me. I'm not too well coordinated with my feet. Besides, my mom isn't a good teacher for that kind of thing. She wanted me to learn to dance as if it were just enough wanting it.

I guess your mind wasn't into it that's why you didn't learn, it would have been great if you did

I know some things about dancing. I mean I can move with music. Even when I'm not making the right steps, ha, ha, ha.

Its fine as long as you can sing and play the guitar, that's OK.

Go for it! 😄

@starstrings01 one musician added to your list

A real DIY. That's awesome to be able to envision something and build it from scratch.

I've long since knew that food was my passion. I try to curb it though. Too much of a good thing can be detrimental as well.

Thanks for sharing your passions with us.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Yes, I try to keep myself from eating too much. When I was younger it made no difference, but times change and one gets a lot less resistant to eating too much food.
