Autonomy

If I had to change one thing about myself, it would be my overly good nature. I am far too kind and generous for my own good. It is to this unfortunate trait that I attribute my failure to amass a vast fortune, live in a mansion, fly about by private jet, and command a small army of minions to wait upon me hand and foot. As it is, I must do everything myself, live without a private pool, and slum it in business class.

Had I been just a little more ruthless, treated my employees less like royalty and provided an inferior, overpriced service like everyone else, I would now be dictating this post to an assistant, from my luxurious hideout in the Swiss Alps.

But alas, my esteemed reader, wealth and power have never been my motivation. Dominion over others is something I have always sought to avoid, and I struggle to understand why anyone would desire it. I believe in self-determination, in each of us taking responsibility for our own lives. I impose my will on no one and expect the same in return.

Thus, if I had the power to improve just one thing in today’s world, it would be the political system — by abolishing it entirely, allowing each of us to live according to our conscience, governed only by a few basic, common-sense rules.

It is my contention that government is the root of all evil, and without it we would all be living on caviar and honey.

What do you mean you don’t like caviar?

Governments, as I see it, deliberately cultivate dependency. Through overregulation and punitive taxation, they foster demoralisation and stifle innovation and enterprise. They are horrendously expensive and largely ineffective at the tasks with which they are charged — protecting the citizenry and managing infrastructure.

So I ask you: can anyone provide a logical argument for why we need the bums at all?

Posted in response to Galenkp's Weekend experiences asking ' ' Assuming you had the power to improve one single thing in today's world, what would it be " and "If you had the power to change one thing about yourself what would it be and why?'

The images are mine

Sort:

Governments exist to exercise control, not to improve our lives; they never will. They only improve their own lives, whilst the rest of us… end up as slaves or something similar. Common sense… is being lost these days, but it is the best tool for building a new society.

What mystifies me is why so many people seem to realise that, but so many still engage with the democracy charade. Suppose they held an election and nobody came.

In Argentina they’re compulsory, but not here... once I realised how much of a sham it all was, I stopped going. But not many people do the same.

Haha yep. I tell Jamie that the reason he doesn't have a mansion is that he's not a ruthless cunt, and unfortunately, that's why I love him, and why I don't live in a James Bond crib either.

I'd swap a mansion for a Jamie any day😁

If I had fewer scruples, I could be much more financially comfortable. I don't want to be a draftsman in the military-industrial complex, a modern-day slavecatcher for ICE, or a welfare bum. I want to treat others the way I want to be treated, and that begins with not asking the government to rob my neighbors.

Speaking of government...

Governments are nothing but mafias masquerading as our benefactors, and people only believe it because the government teaches them. I heard someone ask how people would feel about Wal-Mart if they ran schools, posted pictures of their CEOs for us to memorize, and re recited a daily loyalty oath to our yellow asterisk logo of freedom.

Obligatory "To hell with this Iran war and its apologists."

Hear, hear!
It seems scruples went out with the 20th century and were replaced by entitlement.

Ah, why would you rather change that? You said you are a kind person. That is a good trait to sustain.

I write with my tongue firmly in my cheek. None of it is true. I'm actually a bad tempered, stingy little grinch:)

If I every come to enough money and power, I'll build you that residence in the mountains. Though, being German, it does come with a weird connotation. But past is past.

Berchtesgaden here I come!:)

I will suggest that you keep being good because that is actually real power

Too late...I've already gone over to the dark side. Blessed are the ruthless, for they shall inherit the earth:)

Religions and governments are the roots I'd say

At least one can opt out of religion.

Uhhmmm... NO.

Thought not!

This is absolutely true. If we talk about the governments of the whole world at this time, they are completely failing to provide good things to their people. And the soft-hearted person is living a more troubled life in this world because he tries to have a good attitude towards every person, but people do not adopt a good attitude in return.
