My most embarrassing moment

in Weekend Experiences2 years ago (edited)

Hello everyone
Happy weekend to you all, it's my first time participating in the weekend contest which I came across while exploring the community.
I want to appreciate @galenkp for these interesting topics and for giving me the privilege to share my experience.

When I think of the most embarrassing things that have happened to me, I kind of feel in space, because there are a few most embarrassing moments I’ve experienced all through my journey of life, but thinking of the best embarrassment of all that has shaped my life into something meaningful today.
The most embarrassing thing that has ever happened to me was being in a class of about 30 students and was odd amongst all at that moment. Let me make this easy for us to understand.

THE STORY

I was about 15yrs of age during this period while I was in my Junior secondary school grade, I was an average student and there happened a day in school when my class was to offer a subject ‘CRS’ (Christian Religious Studies) at that particular period, which was taken by a teacher I feared the most because I couldn’t understand her and the fact that she was strict, she goes by the name Mrs. Catherine. While she got to teach the topic for the day, she also got to ask questions like she normally does and whenever it gets to this part of her class, I get frightened and felt like an underdog in the class, I never spoke a word in class whenever she was to teach. Not until that faithful day when she got to point at me to answer her question and I was feeling the heat under my feet (at that point I was tremendously shaking and at the same time, confused). Unfortunately for me, I couldn’t answer her question because I was afraid of getting it wrong and at the same time, I had no idea.

THE EMBARRASSING PART

After the part when I didn’t get to answer her question, I was told to lay my hands on my head and pray against every spirit of dullness in my head (Man!!! That was embarrassing to me because I had a crush in class (as a teenager. Sometimes it's naturally normal with children/teenagers) and my friends altogether, laughed at me while I was saying some funny words of prayer. At that point, I felt bad and couldn’t act free and active in class for some time because I thought everyone saw me as a dullard (which isn’t true though) I walked occasionally, unlike myself in class after that scenario, I could feel my esteem going below its actual level and unlike fire, I started feeling cold inside (lol…).

THE GOOD PART AND IMPACT OF IT ALL

After some time, she invited me to her office and pulled up a weeny conversation about myself, wanting to connect to me better in class. Successfully, we found the key (lol) and I became one of her top and favorite students in class. This changed my narrative of studying and from being an underdog and an average student, I began to improve till she became proud of the effective and speedy change and I became one of the best students as I progressed in class and graduated from my second grade. Throughout my whole stay in secondary school, She would always advise me about the future, and amazingly, she kept talking about me, even after I left my secondary school stage. We were communicating via phone and social media just as a mother and her son as years upon years went by.

Here today, I’m a graduate of Niger Delta University (NDU)with a Batchelor’s degree after many years and we still communicate. I spoke with her just yesterday. My nightmare in the person became my Favourite teacher (lol… what a blessing) Many can learn from this story especially children who suffer from phobia and lack of exposure to their teachers, She’s been an outstanding part of my childhood foundation and a big influence throughout my journey.

Wow...I didn't expect a happy ending, that was a breather. She was a good teacher.

Yeah, she was. Thank you for reading through, I really appreciate

You know, it's a common thing for geniuses to be criticized initially:

Take Einstein for example who was constantly called a dimwit by his teachers when he was a young boy and mocked by society for not talking in full speech until he was only 5 years old!

It takes time to build and become something. And you my friend, are on the verge of it. If not already there.

After the part when I didn’t get to answer her question, I was told to lay my hands on my head and pray against every spirit of dullness in my head

Damn😂

The prayer part was annoying cause I have to say it loud for the whole class to hear me🙃🙃.
You're very correct it takes time to build and become something and the last thing is determination.
Thank you for stopping by.
