They say that the mind is the first to go. For me it isn't the mind itself but rather the memory that is going. In years past, I could recall the details of things I've read or studied, but recently, I need a list for everything. Of course, I blame it on the faster pace of life, or rather the busy-ness of living.
A very good friend bought this book for me, Forgotten Home Apothecary, written by Nicole Apelian Ph.D. She said she thought it would fit in with my growing library on natural medicine.
For a couple of weeks now it has been sitting on my desk waiting for me to pick it up. I gave it a cursory flip through when I received it, but hadn't had a chance to delve into it yet. It's sitting on my nightstand awaiting my more thorough attention. I will be tucking into it as soon as I finish my writing here.
I really like the cover and the presentation of the contents too.
The layout is well done and the information is thorough. Many photos accompany the text, and the ingredients, instructions and dosing information is complete and easy to follow. There is a 'notes' section which mentions any cautions or contraindications.
This isn't one of those books that you just can't put down or that have a cliff hanger at every chapter. This is more like a technical journal that takes time to wade through. I love these types of reference books that impart more knowledge and skills. That's not to say that I don't enjoy a good novel because I do, but lately I have a thirst for more and more knowledge.
Written in response to prompt #2, 'What book are you reading this weekend and why?' in galenkp's weekend-engagement post.
Stay Well!
That kidney cleanse in the picture looks like a powerful tonic!!
I'd like to try it but scared I might pee the bed 😂
That's a cool looking book and I reckon you'll get some good use of it. I reckon it's one of those books you could just flick through randomly rather than read from front to back, I could be wrong though, it's happened once before. Lol.
Make some comments here because I can't sent this post to curangel, sent one of your comments recently and it's time-limited. I'll up votes your comments instead. Shorter the better. 🙄
lol
Indeed.
What say you in reply?
In reply, you are 100% correct, though I have been known to read technicals front to back. I also used to read the encyclopedia and dictionary page by page. Never the phone book though.
Looked through that book last night for various remedies and medicinal recipes but could not find even one elixir to ward off arrogant bastards. Guess that's in a different book 😆
Long bloody comment but I'll vote it anyway. Lol.
I have been accused of being long-winded at times :-)
Long winded is better than simply, winded. The latter is no fun at all.
Greetings Tammy,
Oh...what a treat awaits you...sounds so interesting.
One of the things I find particularly delightful....is how this sort of knowledge gives one a peek into how our grandmothers, great grandmothers might have dealt with something in their experience which then becomes a shared experience...make sense?
You have yourself a gem there. ^__^
Kind Regards, Bleujay
Good morning Bleujay :-)
Thank you for the lovely thoughts! It certainly does make sense and is partly why I study on these sorts of things. I am fascinated by the old ways. Who knows...those old ways may come in handy at some point.
Here's wishing you a fabulous day!
Thanks again,
Tammy

What do you know about osteoarthritis, specifically fingers.
I do have some arthritis in my fingers and wrists which become aggravated by the repetative motions of spinning. For myself, I grow a massive amount of turmeric which I dehydrate, powder and encapsulate with black pepper. I use size '0' empty gelatin capsules and take three during the day. Turmeric is fat soluble so I take the capsules with milk, cheese, yogurt, bacon lol. Not overly fond of the taste of turmeric, but I sprinkle it on eggs, cooked with butter or olive oil , which I eat daily.
Some folks mix salve using turmeric, a carrier oil (olive, grape seed), add in enough melted beeswax to form a good texture. I don't use topical, so not sure of it's efficacy.
Egg shell membrane is a naturally occurring glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate along with collagen which some claim to aid in regeneration of cartilage. I have recently started to extract the membrane from my own eggs to experiment with. Having used it only five or six days, I cannot claim one way or the other.
I'm sure there are more but none that I have experience with.
Ok, more than I know.
I have a topical salve with aloe, turmeric, arnica Montana, omega 3, 6,& 9, Boswellia serrata, rosemary oil, msm and grapefruit extract which is some relief. Was hoping you have the "silver bullet" though...or maybe I just need as bullet full stop.
Alas, no silver bullet. My sister swears by arnica but I have not tried it yet.
Shit, ok then, I have loads of bullets; maybe I'll engrave my own name on one of them instead of other's.
I think not!
Ok, just because you say so.
Congratulations @tamaralovelace!
You raised your level and are now a Dolphin!
