RE: Weekend-engagement topic week 44: See || Hear || Feel - Win HIVE

in Weekend Experiences3 years ago (edited)

I would choose to lose my hearing.

It all depends on what new way you want to learn to process informationand communicate. For example, If you lose your sight, do you want to learn braille? If you lose your touch, do you want to rely on texnology to communicate. If you lose your hearing, do you want to learn sign language? Learning a new language is diffi ul so I would pick one that had the flatestest learning curve, and Im assuming tbat's sign language.

Hey there, thanks for your thoughtful comment...It would be a difficult decision to have to make in real life, fortunately this is just hypothetical.

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

I think with today's technology hearing loss is the simplest one to lose and to replace. A pair of glasses modified with a Heads Up Display, and microphones on the ear clip pieces, and then soft ware to translate to text spoken language, and to translate to icons and lines of other items, like footsteps following, car approaching from the left, and triangulation of gunshots so one could avoid danger and yet still have a sense of their surroundings. I don't think the feel of a kittens fur can ever be replaced by technology, or the feel of a child's hug or kiss.

Sign language is indeed challenging but one of the best ways to learn it is just complete immersion in it. That's why traveling to foreign countries while speaking the language is the best way to learn it. Same here, though hopefully we don't have to lose our hearing!
