Someone once asked me, "What is the point of making money if you are not going to spend it and make your life easier?" and in the moment, I didn't really give it much thought because I thought it was just some squabble of a friend who wanted me to spend money extravagantly and then end up regretting my decision in the future. But then it was later on, when I got home that I began to process the message, and it turns out it makes a lot of sense.
You see, life (at least for the average person) can be somewhat of a rat race. We spend money to learn something valuable, then we use the knowledge to earn money (whether through a job or maybe by building something with all the knowledge), then we make money from work, then we use the money to eat so we can have energy to work, so we can make more money to eat, so we can work at a greater capacity, and the cycle continues. Usually, if you work hard enough or learn hard enough or maybe make the right connections, you should be able to suspend the rat race for a while. But sadly, only a very few people ever get there. And even some of the people who get there still find themselves mentally in the race.
No change in their lifestyle, just a bigger bank account filled with money that ultimately doesn't do anything until they grow old and pass, then it gets thrown to the next of kin, who won't show the money any mercy and ultimately waste it.
I have never considered myself rich or even anything close to that (I believe I am still in the learning stage), but then it was after this conversation that I realised that there were times I found myself inconveniencing myself, when I could afford to spend a little and make things a lot easier. I mean, what's the point of making money if you're not going to spend it? From that moment, I started being more conscious about the things I can afford to spend on and make life easier. And although my balance has gone down, life has definitely felt better, which is ultimately what we strive to achieve in the end.
I decided to write on this because I know I'm definitely not the only one who has been under this category before. Perhaps you're reading this and you're under this category, this is your sign to get that thing that you can afford that you know will make your life better. Keywords being "that you can afford" and "will make your life better", this is not your sign to splurge cash on that unnecessary thing, lol.

So true. At some point in my life, it actually felt like I was making money for people and not myself. I felt guilty for spending my own money on myself and it was then I realized that I was doing too much and I decided to loosen up a bit.
That’s why they say the wants of man are insatiable. The more we acquire, the more tendency of us getting greedier and hungry for more. It takes a lot of efforts to convince ourselves to actually spend our money rather than focus more on always saving and starving ourselves even our basic needs.
It really is difficult at times, but if we really want to we can do it.
I agree with you. 😊
I ask myself this everyday. I know I have plans and all but, can I just live in the moment? The other day, I bought something I needed and my account was judging me for it but let’s face it, I needed it and I had the money. This guilt thing sef needs to be tackled. Why don’t I feel guilty when spending on others? Na wa o.
Hehe, I can relate aswr. When I lose money on a risk or I give someone I care about it doesn't even move me, but when I spend it, I'll na be asking myself if I made the right decision, lol. I'm getting better small small sha.

Once you know and feel what you are getting is needed and worth it, you don’t have to listen to the guilt in you. You just have to face the reality and believe you did something good for yourself. Trust me, the guilt will leave.
It all boils down to striking a balance. Why make money and not spend it? My sister will say, spend on yourself because life is not duplicated. But at the same time, while spending on ourselves, let’s spare some aside for rainy days. Yoruba will say, “Don’t use all your ten fingers to eat.” Wisdom is profitable for us all.
That is why I specifically said if you can afford it.
My definition of being able to afford something means if you spend money on it you won't be in financial danger afterwards, lol.
You are correct.

Money is required, but it isn't what I want. I want to have the unabridged freedom and sponsorship to continue creating.
Exactly. Money is but a tool to get what you want, it isn't what you want. I totally relate with this.
