Little Puppy

Little Puppy

Mark woke up to the sound of his alarm and looked out the window of his red neon-lit room. When he looked out of the window of the skyscraper, which was hundreds of stories high, what he saw were the lights of the city and cars flying through the air.
Loneliness was very difficult for him. Especially in a time like this, when technology is at its peak but friendship is fake.

He reached for his hologram tablet and logged on to social media, where, as usual, people were posting about their travels, the food they had eaten or the new prosthetic electronic limbs they had bought.

An ordinary day.

He started to put on his uniform. A blue police uniform. Sometimes he thought he couldn't find a wife because of this uniform, the job was dangerous, but it was the only profession he knew.
In front of the mirror, he tied his bowtie and put his gun on his holster. He put on a thick coat and buttoned it up. He liked the old English style he had seen in the movies. But this coat had cost him a fortune. Still, he put it on, walked out the door and scanned his fingerprint to lock it.

When he got to the elevator of the building, he walked through a floor full of drug addicts and families living in hard economic times. The addicts there were nervous every day because they knew he was a cop, but he could easily overpower them because they were always drunk.

I need to move out of here as soon as possible.

55-61-66... Dink!

When he got downstairs, he felt like he was thrown into the crazy crowd, again. He walked towards his motorcycle in the parking lot on the back street and as he approached it, he heard a sound.

A moaning sound. Like the cry of a small animal.
To investigate what this sound was, he went to the garbage containers and started looking for it. He searched... He found a puppy under the garbage.

Mark felt his heart pounding with anger. What kind of savage person would throw a puppy into a dumpster, he thought, while at the same time he felt pity for the dog, which was staring at him with big eyes.
It was such a sweet golden retreiver puppy.

He immediately picked up the dog, walked to his motorcycle and started driving slowly towards the police station. He put the dog inside his jacket so it wouldn't get cold. He carefully drove through the city streets with blue and purple lights and didn't even turn on the police sirens so the dog wouldn't be scared.

When Mark arrived at the police station, he went to his desk and handed the dog to his friend who worked there. He asked for permission to access the CCTV footage and began to watch where the dumpster was. He watched for a couple of hours. And finally he found it. He found the brutal guy who was the cause of his anger. He was mercilessly leaving the dog and leaving. His face was very clear. Mark immediately ran an ID and found out that the man lived very close to his house.

Good.

Asking for the afternoon off, he kissed the cleaned up puppy, jumped on his bike and started heading towards the man's house. It was a road full of hate, anger and revenge. The lights seemed to grow longer. Cars seemed to move out of his way. He caught all the green lights. It was as if fate wanted him to take this revenge. Yes, today was his day. As a policeman, it was not pleasant to think about these feelings. It was unprofessional. But it would make this man worse than an arrest.

He came to the skyscraper where the man lived and went up to the floor where he was registered. He came in front of the house where he lived. He knocked once on the door.
Nobody answered.
He rang the bell once.
"We are not home.''
"Police, open the door''
The door opened, but not completely because of the chain. But that was enough for Mark. As the man tried to peek through the half open door with one eye, Mark pulled the gun.

Bam!

The drunk sitting in the corner of the hallway looked at Mark in shock. Mark walked over to him and gave him a few dollars. After wiping his gun with his gloves, he turned toward the drunk man.

"Get rid of the gun. Come to Seashell Beach tonight at midnight to get the rest of the money.''
The drunk man took the gun speechlessly and nodded his head in agreement.

He couldn't say no to a cop.

Mark got back on his bike, satisfied with himself, having gotten his revenge.
It was evening by the time he reached the police station. He picked up the puppy and put it back into his coat. On the way back he bought some dog food. This was a very special day for him. It was also a very exciting day. One of the most emotional days he has ever experienced. Years after he surgically atrophied his neurons, to not feel the pain...

In the evening Mark went to Seashell beach and met the homeless drunk. There was no one else on the beach. He took a good look around and walked to the pier he always used, out of sight of the cameras. The drunk man saw him and approached him to get the rest of the money he deserved.
"Where did you put the gun?''
"I threw it in a metal melting furnace in one of the factories. No one will ever find it, sir.''
''Good. Thank you. Here, take the rest of the money and go away. Go find yourself another city.''
''Thank you kindly sir thank you so much.''

The man walked slowly and disappeared into the city streets. Mark took the last smoke from his cigarette and continued to look out to sea.

I know everyone thinks of a nice day when they think of a special day, but this time I wanted to try something different. I hope you like it. Thank you very much for reading.

@arduilcelebren, your story is grand, but if you read The Ink Well’s guidelines, you’ll see that we don’t accept stories about animal abuse. Your story would be fine, though, except for the fact that I believe that a man who would save a puppy would not kill a helpless drunk. Please offer me feedback.

I just changed the ending now because I won't have time this week. Thank you very much for making me realize the guideliness, I will pay more attention in the next stories. 🤗

You write with “heart”. A spectacular chain of events that leads to saving a puppy’s life. You fire emotion, follow it up with investigation that feels so “right” and then give us the ultimate weapon - revenge!
Your details make your story come alive - the coat, the uniform, the fast bike and the gun.
You provide a strong storyline and engage the readers’ attention.

Thank you so much! I know this is not the story you aimed for when you asked for the special times but I really wanted to write something like this for a while 😁

I love your creativity, darling💕

A different future scenario, with beautiful details. What a tiny puppy made a man do. A beautiful and very different special day story.👍

Thank you so much love ❤

This story really moved me. It is full of emotions, from Mark's loneliness to the revenge he took, to his act of kindness in rescuing the puppy. The narration is poetic and makes you feel like you are there, living the story with Mark. I love how the story shows that there is kindness even in a city full of darkness.

Thank you so much for reading and commenting. It makes me really excited to see people enjoy the stories ☺

Mark was kind to have saved the puppy and took the actions that followed. What I don't understand is why he dropped his gun for someone...

So he can not be tracked in this tech age ☺

It was a good time the cop had but revenge is not the best most especially as a cop..
Welldone for the beautiful story we'll written...

Thank you very much!

My eyes widened at the end! The cop was really ticked by the brutality on a puppy. Damn. To even pull out a gun. Well, some people can't swallow particular behaviours no matter how small or insignificant it seems.

You held me to the very end. Great story.

I am very glad you liked it, thank you for reading it. Exactly, sometimes the little things are enough to infuriate people.

A pretty terrible ending, although for animal lovers it would be great. I wonder what kind of person Mark is. I loved how you described the setting and the details. Your stories capture attention. Your stories capture attention. I wonder why he would have that surgery.
