Hey everyone,

This is an invitation to all our subscribers, members, writers and contributors to win some Hive Basic Income (HBI)* shares and build your stake!

HBI shares are a way of helping to bring a basic income to everyone on Hive. Anyone can join by buying a share for just one Hive and when they do, they nominate someone else to also receive a share. Both accounts now have a share and will receive HBI votes on their posts.

The Ink Well community is dedicated to bringing an alternative long-tail, long term income to writers, and HBI shares are just one of the many ways to do that.

Let's Start the Contest!

This week, The Ink Well has 982 subscribers and 56 active contributors to the community. To take part in the contest, write a comment below about why you became a subscriber or a contributor.

That's it. The best comments will win 2 HBI shares each.

PS help to grow The Ink Well by voting for this post and follow @theinkwell if you want to know about next week's contest!

Deadline for comments: Friday 6 November 2020

*HBI - this was SBI (Steem Basic Income), now Hive Staked Basic Income or HSBI ... or HBI. You can read more about it here.

I joined this community to be a part of a place where people shared their writings with other like-minded people and to be able to share my content. It stood out to me from the lot of communities on here which focus on writing as it is specific in its niche. I'm happy to have joined it! Waiting patiently on poetry to be accepted once again!

The Ink Well is specific in its niche, do you mean?
Ah poetry - we have some wonderful poets and it would be good to have some ideas about how to build a poetry community. How realistic is it to have short stories and poetry in the same community?

Yes, as far as creative writing goes in general. Other communities seem to attract wider audiences with too many different types of content, making the community a messy place lacking a theme. This is not the case for The Ink Well in my eyes. It manages to stick to a niche and drive the community forward well.

In my opinion the two can co-exist but it is not optimal. Giving room for one to exist for a specific period of time and then for the other seems like a neat idea, however one downside of this is , without a doubt, that many passing-by poets (or any content creators whose work isn't accepted at a given time) will get put off and simply move on without returning or even considering to do so later on. A solution to this could be the only real thing that can be done: the creation of another community on here; one specific to poets. A post on the Ink Well introducing this idea first, seeding the possibility of such a community could be useful to see if such a project would have support, and if so, after its creation, promoting it on here, along with letting people who, unknowing, post poetry on here know about the poetry community could be the way to get it going. If enough join such a community, I'm sure you will be able to do a great job at up-keeping such a community, judging from the work you've done with The Ink Well!

Mmm, communities ... it's about how to create a shop window (whether that is for stories or poetry) and then fill it with good things that attract new readers from outside Hive. It has taken a little while (several months) to work out the best way forward for The Ink Well.

In my opinion the two can co-exist but it is not optimal.

Agree - another poetry specific community would be a good option. Building a community takes a lot of time, though. Part of the discussions would have to be about finding a group of people who were willing to give time to support the community (and who had some expertise in poetry). But your idea of testing it out through The Ink Well is a good one, thank you 😍

I'm certain you know a lot more than me on this and the best ways in which TIW is growing - I would suggest, however, such an idea:

By focusing TIW community on creative writing as a whole, (excluding poetry) and in that still implementing different windows for different specific types of writing to narrow down the content further, (short stories for example) whilst fully migrating poetry to a brand new community and also splitting that up into different windows for different types of poetic writing or themes, (this could be worked on and discussed) - by doing this, both writers and poets could reap many benefits of having permanent communities available to them to share with and engage with.

Of course, the manifestation of such an idea is easier said and thought of than actually done... I would strongly suggest thinking about a strategic and well-timed post to TIW community, throwing the idea out there, calling out to anyone interested in undertaking such a project. Seeing the poetic crowd usually on here, I am certain some would step up to the task.

@lukakorba, did you vote on the post? is there any reason why not?

I voted now. I understand the importance of voting, but in my defence, I often forget to do so as my upvoting power barely adds a cent. My bad for often ignoring to do so.

Thank you :)
I understand, but we have 982 subscribers and even if everyone had an 0.01 vote, the contribution would be 9.82 - at the moment it's sitting at 0.49.

True, I admit I should have ad have done so! :)

Thanks for mentioning me.

Q: why you became a subscriber or a contributor?

My Reply: Actually I am a great fan of literature. I always like to be engaged with any literature related work. I like toread and write from my school life. So when I engaged with this blockchain, I was looking for some place where I can breathe. Yeah, I finally found this community that is fully dedicated for story and literature. That's why I am now with this community.

Good to have you here 😍. Look forward to reading more of your stories!

Yeah, I am thinking to put more effort in this community in future.

Hi @quijotezco, did you vote on the post? Is there any reason why not?

I am very happy to have been mentioned, I am very grateful to this community for taking me into account.

Why did I subscribe to The Ink Well community?

I am passionate about literature, I admire people who take the time, dedication to capture their emotions, memories, dreams, feelings among other things, to reflect it in writing, and that this can be read by others and transmit all that.

Do you still wonder why?

Writing generates peace, the power to generate feelings through writing, to help, to entertain, to cause emotions, somehow it makes me feel good, and this community opens the door to be free to write what I am passionate about.

Thank you for the opportunity!

Good to have you here 😍, so many ideas in your comment.
Look forward to your stories!

I love reading short stories and reading blogs like this encourage me to try to write some. I was interested to read in another one of your posts that you can reward a post in a few different ways. I will try to enable that wrapped one on my wallet.

Thank you for joining in. Have you tried the writing chsallenge?
Yes, you can rewards posts through tipping.

I subscribed to #theinkwell because I have been a writer for many years and have only seen my skills grow through the help of other authors. I used to be in a few different writing communities and I long for that learning and growth. To me, enhancing my writing skills is one of the greatest things to make me a better person.

If I grow enough, maybe I'll become a Best Seller... although I am probably leaning towards self-publishing through Ingram Spark instead of querying and waiting and giving myself ulcers worrying over whether or not my writing will ever be considered good enough.

Have you tried the writing challenge? Here is the full programme so you can plan your writing and there is a challenge post every week.

I haven't tried my hand at the writing challenge(s) yet, but I plan to do some. I have a pretty busy life, so I have to try and carve out time to write; and I have a piece I've been working on for about a week for my Scenic Views series, on-and-off, as the inspiration struck.

I'll take a look at it and see if I can get in on one.
Thanks!

I subscribed because one day I asked about a concern I had, this concern I commented in one of the many Discord servers that exist, the truth is I do not remember what it was, but I was told that the ideal label for literary writings, stories, poems, poetry and so on was @theinkwell. I haven't done my first story or in that case poems yet, but I hope to do it soon and contribute to the development of your community... It is a pleasure to support you in this initiative ;) Greetings!

The Ink Well would be delighted to have a story from you 😍.

First of all, I am grateful to chance that it brought my name to this list. It's all thanks to you, @TheInkWell team.

Literature has been with me forever. It is in my profession and through it I met most of the people I consider my best friends. I joined this community because I found in you an excellent space to share my stories and my poems, besides reading what other members of the great Hive community have been writing.

I started participating in the poetry contests and I was fascinated by the process that took place in me when I built verses from the themes or images that you provided, based on a limited number of verses because there had never been work like that before and I loved it. That opened up a personal universe for me that was either asleep or unknown to me. And it gave me enormous satisfaction to see the final result that not only I liked but other people who visited my publications and commented positively.

You have given us users a space to awaken creativity, manifest emotions, feelings, develop styles and encourage the challenge of being a writer.

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

I joined this platform to explore my writing skills in poetry but I found since most of the writing is in my native language and it's hard to reflect those feelings exactly in English using proper grammar. Since native language abbreviation s not easy to find everywhere. although I love the platform and still I will write some funny poems rather than the serious one.
Thanks for connecting and mentioning me.

Welcome @sanjeev021, it can be hard translating poems into another language, thank you for staying with us 😍. There's a conversation in the comments about supporting poets - what are your thoughts?

The community is not too big for poetry platform and everyone wants they should get higher payoff but only few giants are getting since I saw from last two year only few writer's are appreciated so much.
If we can do anything It will bring more people in platform.

I've wanted to try my hand at creative writing for a while now. I subscribed because I thought it would be fun to see what other writers are writing about. I also plan on submitting my own short stories. This looked like a really fun community to start experimenting with my own creative writing ideas.

Good to have you here 😍. Have you tried the writing challenge? Or is there another way The Ink Well can support you?

Nope haven't tried the writing challenge yet. That's actually what I seen that got me to sign up though. I need to get my nerve up now and also make a little time. Just like the post says though, maybe this is the push I'll need to set aside an hour a day to start writinng some short stories.

Nobody expected The Dood to start writing stories on the Hive blockchain 🤣

I have already mentioned it in my application post, but the management as well as the content. I enjoy reading the content, especially now that it is focused n short stories.

Yes, the narrower focus on short stories allows The Ink Well to provide better support to writers. For new readers, coming from outside, it is easier to see what the community is all about and find a way in.

Hello @theinkwell and greetings to all the writers.
I joined this Community to show my writings, to exchange reading opinions, to know if someone likes what I write and how I write.

Also, I joined this Community to lose the fear of writing in English. My natural language is Spanish. Making literature in English is a complex work for me. However, reading in English and practicing literary writing in this language (not scientific reports) has helped me to write even better in Spanish.

I made a small delegation to @theinkwell because in this way I help other writers to have better rewards.

Frankly, I subscribed to TIW from this account as I had thought I'd lost access to my main one, @barge. Because my voting value is 0.00

Sorry for that :(

We have 982 subscribers to the The Ink Well, even if every one of them only had a vote worth 0.01, that would still be a contribution of 9.81 instead of the .50 that the post is currently sitting at. It was .49 when I wrote the comment to you, since then there have been three tiny votes like yours which have pushed it up to .50. Every vote counts.

Community is exactly power. I am not good at literature but love to read and write story. So sometimes I was looking for story related community into hive.finally one of my colleagues @tariqul.bibm who have suggested me about this community. I found it really useful because this is the hub of story readers and writers. And I am very much thankful to this community for arranging such niche group specialised community where literature lovers can be accumulated. Thank you very much for mentioning me and hope to continue with this literature related work and story in this community

Thanks for joining this awesome community. Hope you will start to write here. I believe it will be very interesting if you start to write stories.

I should start writing again. Thanks.

There has already been too much ENGAGE today.

Hello!
I met TheInkWell Community through a combination of luck and affinity. While wandering around Hive, I came across a very good article on how to efficiently structure stories (What Is a Story Arc?). This article led me to another and another. I found myself reading many publications related to the Community. I had been away from the platform for quite some time because my neighborhood ran out of Internet (but that's another story I'll tell elsewhere), so long, that I missed the dramatic fork in the road between Steemit and Hive. When I came back, I was very grateful to have met The Ink Well Community, because it gave me back the hope that there were people focused on a valuable and specific purpose (there is so much war going on around me), trying to grow with the writers, and that there was a place where it was possible to deal with the core things in my life, like writing.
I have participated in the magnificent contests that have opened here, and it has been a very valuable learning experience.
I don't have many resources, but I have tried to add what little I have to projects that seem generous to me and that leave valuable things for people: knowledge, motivation, good will... All that is in The Ink Well Community.
I am deeply moved that the project has the purpose and the will to contribute with the formation and remunerate the writers properly.
Of course I would like to participate more, and I'm trying to resume writing stories in English, and this will be the main place of my publications in this language.
At the beginning of my comment I said that I met this community by a lucky combination: chance and affinity. Chance was explained and, in part, affinity... But there is a part of that affinity that I would like to express before saying goodbye: in The Ink Well Community project there are people that I have met on the platform and that I have come to respect as managers, artists and writers. That, already, is invaluable.

I am very aware, when I mention the Community, that I am writing their name in capital letters, and I would like to share why: In my native language, proper names are written in capital letters. And I believe that 'The Ink Well Community' has forged a proper name. And I appreciate it... very much.

I'm glad you came back after your hiatus, @adncabrera! This is a wonderful place to find creative-minded people and be part of a global yet intimate community.

Thank you very much, dear @jayna. It is a joy to receive your words. Reading to you and seeing your pictures has been very pleasant during all this time. Also, I have learned a lot from your writing tips and the discipline that I took advantage of in that microfiction contest. You are amazing. A big hug.

Thank you. Hug accepted, @adncabrera. And here comes one your way! 😍

I think it's wonderful how we can make friends all over the world here. I never imagined it was possible to get to know people and build community just through blog posts and comment conversations. It really amazes me!

I have not really post here, maybe because I feel I don't have it in me yet. I actually joined this community because I want to develop myself when it comes to writing, especially writing of stories, but like I said, I have post anything because I feel I don't have it in me yet.

What would help you to get started?

I just need the right track for a story, I know when I get one, I will write about it

I subscribe because I am a writer and this is community of writers who write the wordly words.
