First Week in Mythic With 50$ Magic Deck: Deck Showcase & Reflections as a F2P

Hello to everyone! I am Yeetmaster, and yesterday I finished my first weekend ranked starting in Mythic. I have a collection value of around 80$ in total, and have been playing the game for approximately a month. I decided to try out a new deck for my Mythic run (super smart), and have documented my journey below. I would like to add that this deck reminds me a lot of Freeze Mage from Hearthstone, but I digress.

Structure Magic Deck List

Deck Showcase

The Bread & Butter

 " " \" \" \\" \\" \\\"image.png\\\"\\"\\"\"\"""

The bread & butter of the deck. Aggravated Architect is a creature that is incredibly annoying to remove, and if it can stay up for a turn, there are some nasty synergies available. The most common and useful one will be with Bronze Gate, where it can ping a random enemy creature for 2 damage. Due to its armor, it will not take any damage. Synergies are also available with Enchanted Chariot and Wall of Lightning, and I have won several games with a well timed 4-damage ping with this combo.

How To Not Die

 " " \" \" \\" \\"image.png\\"\\"\"\"""

How you survive! Defend the Ramparts is stupid strong in this deck, and with Wall of Lightning it can deal 4 damage to two separate enemies (structure and spell boost).** Tracking Bolt** & Starshard Bolt for the clear. **Shaped Blast **comes in handy to usually deal 3 damage to all creatures. **Inferno **is a clutch card in some matchups, but in general very slow, which is why we run only one copy. **Ratify **is also super-clutch in many match-ups, and also a fun card.

Damage

Useful for clearing in aggro-matchups, and useful for dealing damage to face in control match-ups. Together with Morgana’s Grimoire, you can technically deal 18 damage from hand, which makes this a semi-OTK deck. Semi.

Win Condition

The win condition in non-aggro games: Since you do not have to worry about getting spammed down, but rather controlling the board, you will end up having this combo hit often. I will let the screenshots speak for themselves but note that the Trial also can be used on enemy creatures, as in the second picture.

Sustain/Value

These generate value in slower games, and the Diligent Architect is one of the most important cards in this deck. Besides the obvious structure synergies, it is often the way in which you sustain a card advantage in longer games. The +2 and delve allow us to pick a creature that fits our needs: zombies with life-steal, spawning random nature cards, or perhaps something spicier.

How to Not Die (part 2)

These are our beefy guys, and they save us from immanent death against small creatures. Labyrinth Guard can also be the target of the Trial if you need to~~ build a wall~~ stay alive.

Reflections on Mythic/Structure Mage

Looking at the packs is sad, because I know that if I were to stay where I am comfortable, I would have five epic packs coming. Nonetheless, the way I see it, I need to play against other good players to get better, and ultimately get to where I am winning 17+ games. This is only my first weekend in Mythic, and I had a positive win-rate and stayed in Mythic, which gives me confidence. If I get a little bit better, maybe next week I manage to get 17. I have also heard that the team is working on creating a system which incentivizes staying at higher ranks, which I am looking forward to.

This deck has a super high skill-cap, and there is a lot of room for mistakes, lord knows that I made way too many. This also makes me believe that this deck could be viable for others pursuing Mythic, as I managed moderate success quickly. Mythic is ultimately not that scary if you have a decent deck and stay focused: just play a bit better than me, and you will be fine:)

You get to see a lot of new decks in Mythic, and also a lot of the same deck (Frenzy Warrior, looking at you..). There are also plenty of other people misplaying and playing with budget decks. If you are a newer player thinking about whether to participate in Mythic or go for the easy rewards, consider whether you are in this for the long run. You miss all of the shots you do not take..

Lastly, I want to give a shout-out to the Gods Unchained community, especially on Hive. My first post was received positively which gave me confidence to continue. You guys are awesome.

Shout out to @MinimalSwag for the deck idea on Youtube, @Kephler for the tool to showcase the cards, to Gods Unchained for making the game which I have screenshotted from, and GUdecks for providing the statistics in the aforementioned game.

Great work, although you are one of the players that I dread facing with my aggro decks 😂 Mythic Weekend is always tough but you've got the spirit!

Due to the length of the games, perhaps? Frenzy Warrior is just a painful match-up for this deck..
Thanks again for the tool, it is very useful:)

More of how structures/Magic spells in general just tend to prevent any forward movement from my side, although it's your deck's strategy to do so. Glad you found the tool useful!

It is my first week also in mythic hope it goes well!

Good luck!

Thanks mate!
