Conocida popularmente como la Ruta del Desierto o Conquista del Desierto, la Ruta Provincial 20 es una ruta con características muy particulares.
Es prácticamente un rectilíneo enorme (en longitud) que tiene más de 200 kms, en una superficie absolutamente plana, con solo dos curvas muy leves.
Es tan monótona que mueve a la distracción y al adormecimiento. Especialmente en verano cuando las altas temperaturas propician dormirse al volante. Que en muchos casos suele ser fatal.
En efecto numerosos carteles al costado de la ruta advierten sobre este fenómeno.
La rutina en el manejo, el cansancio, provocan somnolencia que causan en muchos casos accidentes fatales.

Este recorrido que les muestro en imágenes lo hice hace algunos años (2017) y encontré la ruta en bastante buen estado, a pesar de las críticas que había sentido.
El estado terrorífico de la ruta se presenta al terminar la Ruta del Desierto y entrar en Rio Negro. Había (y creo que sigue estando en el mismo estado) un tramo de ruta en condiciones tan precarias que había que avanzar a paso de hombre por más de 10 kms.

Hay bastante tránsito lo cuál ayuda mucho para mantenerse despierto y atento.
Por un lado es una experiencia única y alienante.
En el horizonte no se ve nada más que no sea la inmensidad de un paisaje semiárido y semi-desértico que de a poco se va transformando en la estepa patagónica.
Por este motivo la provincia de La Pampa fue incluida en los beneficios de la zona patagónica, no obstante que, tradicionalmente nunca formó parte de la Patagonia Argentina.
There is a lot of traffic which helps a lot to stay awake and attentive.
On the one hand it is a unique and alienating experience.
On the horizon you can see nothing other than the immensity of a semi-arid and semi-desert landscape that is gradually transforming into the Patagonian steppe.
For this reason, the province of La Pampa was included in the benefits of the Patagonian area, although, traditionally, it was never part of Argentine Patagonia.
