Top 3 position seems inevitable for India as COVID-19 infections continues to rise exponentially!

India went into lockdown when we were under 600 confirmed cases and we are opening up when we have crossed 200,000. It definitely looks like the government has given up on trying to effectively contain the spread. Early on it seemed a top 10 position seemed unavoidable for India and we got there quite soon. I check this website for India specific updates.

Our testing has room for improvement as the new discharge policy has skewed our recovery numbers. Our recovery rate looks good because people are being discharged from quarantine and hospitalisation without testing if they are asymptomatic or exhibiting mild symptoms.

Its known that asymptomatic people carrying the infection can spread it to perfectly healthy people and even recovered patients can catch the virus once again.

After considering the current growth in the virus and misleading recovery numbers its safe to assume that the best course of action is to remain indoors, avoid unnecessary travels. The cost of treatment in private hospitals for COVID-19 is quite expensive even for mild symptoms and severe cases it can empty your pockets.

If you have a health insurance you are probably safe from expensive medical care in case you can't get into a government quarantine centre for treatment.

We're close to getting into the 6th and are likely to overtake Italy in a couple of days. Heck, it's pretty safe to estimate a top 3 position for India in a month or so if we continue adding over 9000 cases a day and don't slow down.

Our people too don't seem to care anymore as everyone has gotten used to the threat of a virus. Social distancing isn't being strictly followed and whenever I head out to run errands i've noticed its business as usual with traffic back to near normal levels already in my city.

A vaccine would be very welcome right about now. A densely populated country like India could easily see greater numbers than US too. I really hope we don't get there. I don't think our healthcare system can cope with it.

If you are not from India, do you see any improvement in your country's numbers and has your government been effective in containing the spread?

Sort:

Yes, the medical charges are very high and especially in private hospitals. Here in Chennai, proper testing happens only in private hospitals. One of my friend's family had a bad experience. They were taken to the quarantine center for no reason. Then later they got a letter from the corporation and tested in a private hospital to provide that it was a false alarm. It cost him 40 thousand per day per person. Not everyone can afford that. After all that my friend told me that the experience he and his family had was more stressful than the disease itself. So, no one should get this disease. I hope the planet heals faster from this.

That's a bad experience for sure. No one needs to go through this. The virus is bad enough but dealing with our systems can be worse!

Yes, that's right. My friend told me, the disease is fine but we have to be careful because of this system. They take good care in the quarantine centers it seems but who would want to be there without even having the disease. The state governments are just trying to show some good numbers to the central government to get some decent funds allocated to them. Sadly, innocent people become a victim.

You are right, the scientists warned the authorities against the risk of ending containment measures too soon, as this could lead to a second wave of infections with the new coronavirus. But on the other hand, it has affected several areas of life, so you must have a transition strategy between the two situations to minimize the risks of this disease.

True that. How bad is it in your country currently?

For us we have 14 days without any local cases!! Thanks God..Due to the early decision of confinement..In total we have 1060 case with 1000 recovered..I hope that India will be more better.

Day by day increasing but medical facilities are reducing. One thing positive here that recovery rate is good.

Don't believe the recovery rate. The number is highly misleading as people are being discharged from hospitals and quarantine without testing as per new discharge policy from centre. This is the only reason numbers have gone up so quickly, not because people are really recovering at such a rapid pace!

And surely media is helping government too.

It’s strange... after the lockdown numbers continued to rise? Do people generally followed the rules of the government? Here in Bulgaria there wasn’t a strict lockdown, but more or less people were restricted from traveling both between and in the cities. The strict rules were applied when we had less than 50 confirmed cases. For now it seems that things are pretty normal with maximum of 10-15 new cases daily.

Our lockdown was a total failure due to absolutely shit planning and poorer execution. Hence, the numbers have increased tremendously. The government was busy welcoming Trump and toppling state governments instead of shutting our borders early on. We're a very densely populated country so once the infection began spreading, there is no stopping it easily.

I see... got your point. Wish you and all your friends and family to stay safe and healthy!

We shall overcome fast. We made #newindia.

New India is pretty much on paper. That's all unfortunately.
