We have had some amazing sunrises here in Michigan lately, so I have been trying to capture some of them on my way in to work. Luckily, this early in the morning the roads aren't quite so busy, so I have actually had the chance to stop and take some photos. I'll share some of them with you today as I have been in some of my previous posts.
I've been thinking a lot about HIVE lately. As I see one after another project collapse, close, or crumble, it's getting harder and harder to see a light at the end of the tunnel. I've made a point of saying in the past that I am here for the long haul, and I'll still be here even when/if HIVE hits zero. That still holds true, but in the past, it was more of just one of those things you say, while now it is starting to feel more like a reality.
There was a really good discussion the other day about how HIVE could go to $.01 and people were talking about how that's not a big deal because it will go back up. What if it doesn't though? It's starting to feel like $.04 to $.06 is the new home, which wouldn't bode to well for $.01.

I pointed out that hope is a dangerous thing and it would almost be worse for HIVE to drop to $.01 than to just hit zero and allow us to move on with our lives. The sad thing is, there is still so much potential at HIVE. If you take away the blogging, the games, the investment projects, and all the other stuff, you are still left with one of the fastest, cheapest, most easy to use (?) blockchains out there.
There is a lot to love here, and I still don't plan on going anywhere, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worried. It's not surprising to hear about a project closing up shop on HIVE anymore. These days the sentiment is more like "I can't say that I blame you". In fact, when asked my opinion, I usually say "sure, shut it down". It's a few less pennies I have to track and then we can focus on just HIVE.
Which is so sad on so many levels, but it's where we are right now.
I see a lot of people are still holding out hope for the CLARITY act, but I've even become a bit jaded about that. I think even if it does eventually pass, it will be far less friendly towards crypto than we were hoping. Plus, it feels like it might be a case of too little, too late. I hope I am wrong, but I don't see it ushering in much of anything for us.

Which has prompted me to focus more of my investments lately on tokens like BTC and ETH. I don't plan on liquidating my alts (especially at these prices), but any new investments I make will likely be isolated to those four or five core tokens like BTC, ETH, BNB, SOL, or USDC. Even the small portion of HIVE that I hold back and don't power up each week will probably eventually be moved into BTC. It kind of feels like a steal at $60K right now.
As I was saying though, the closer that price gets to zero, the more I start to think about what life might look like after dedicating close to a decade to this platform. I'd probably take a lot less pictures. Definitely less pictures of my food... Hopefully though I'd still explore the world around me with the same idea of sharing it with people who have never seen it before. I might have to take up journaling again, and I'd likely still hang around in Discord talking to people from all over the world as long as they stick around too.
Of course, none of that really matters as long as the servers keep spinning. As long as we have the witnesses committed to the blockchain, it doesn't really matter what the price is. As long as there are 30 (or so) of us holding on.
Precious Metals
My buddy and I were talking about precious metals the other day and I mentioned how I had been stacking for a while now. He was expressing an interest in picking up some pieces, so I gave him my referral code to KZoo Bullion which is a local business near where we live. Apparently, they have shut down their storefront and only do business online now. I also pointed him towards the APMEX site and he let me know last night that he had picked up some pieces to give to his sons. Very cool! We might have a new stacker on our hands folks!
Splinterlands
I'm still sitting at number 84 on the SPS node validators list. If you have SPS staked and you have an extra vote, could you please consider throwing it my way. I'd love to move a bit higher up in the rankings. I don't play as much as I used to, but I still hold a fair number of assets in the game and I still participate in guild brawls as much as I can. I'd love to see Splinterlands return to its former glory one day.
GoMining
Finally, as I mentioned before, I have finally started to embrace the simplicity and reduced stress of just investing in Bitcoin. I can't help but think if I had just done that from the get go I would be in a much better place now. GoMining is one avenue I have been using to do that. They recently introduced 12 Watt miners to their lineup which increases efficiency and reduces upkeep costs for the end users. It's definitely a long play, but if one day I can sell my miner for even a fraction of what I bought it for, I will be in the green. If the price of BTC goes up from $60K where it currently sits, I'll be rolling in the grass!

When the amount of HIVE goes up up and will keep going up up and up what do people expect. The Price will go up ... Why?
It will never go to 0 ... Why not?
IF you keep doing the same thing then you keep getting the same results.
It is not just Hive, many people are fed up of crypto in general. Hive is great and it is what you make of it. Mrs T years ago could not get round get her head around how people say it will never go offline so to speak, I think that was the same for some other people.
Anyway we are where we are. I think the price will continue to fall, when Bitcoin starts to go up significantly then we perhaps might push towards 10c. But these ludicrous claims that next bullmarket we will cross 50c - $1 by DHF recipients in the Hive discord are just laughable.
Yeah, I don't see us ever hitting those levels again.
Which is fine, at least it brings realism into the equation

Thank you @iriswrite
I swapped out a fuck load of alts into more stable options a while back and even took a significant sum into fiat which has gained well since going into various investments. I'm pretty happy with it considering the crypto that generated those funds were earned by me blogging on Hive. I left some in for a bit of fun, 134,000 Hive or so, but happily swapped out a *small amount of effort for a hefty sum of real-world money that has been working pretty damned hard for me.
As for Hive itself...most things come to an end eventually...I see fuck all of value on there these days, same old shite, and I expect it'll disappear at some point. Life will go on.

Those sound like some really smart moves on your part. I wish I had done a bit more of that when the price was higher, but I played things pretty wrong unfortunately.
I wanted to guarantee a return on investment (Hive) and I certainly got it. I was a bit nervous thinking things could lift dramatically in the future, but they dropped and so I was very fortunate to see a huge gain.
I know people talk about "never selling" or waiting long term...at my age long term is less than with others so I figured a solid six figure number in my hand was baert than waiting. I still have a pile though, so when it goes up more will disappear into BTC or fiat.
I totally agree with that. I have always been one of those holdouts, then I realized a bit too late "why?". I can still grow my stake and take some profit. I've invested a lot of time in this chain. I should take some kind of return beyond the intrinsic benefits.
I don't see why not. I know others who have held and continue to do so, and will receive almost nothing should the price tank further (and not recover) and I don't see the point. I have a couple hundred thousand Hive still so if it goes up I'll go ok...and if it goes up I'll fuck some more off and get some real money.
One must know when to hold...no when to fold. Kenny Rogers said so.
Kenny was a wise man. Such a good song. It's perfect for karaoke too! I've got some HIVE I have been keeping liquid waiting for a big price move. I have a set amount I will keep and then anything over that I move outside of HIVE every now and then. A spike up to $.07 would be nice right about now...
I remember when it was $3 and more. That'll not happen again. (I made a fuck ton back then by selling and renting low.) Ah yes, the good old days.
Well st--m is under 4c now and they keep going somehow. It comes down to whether the witnesses and node owners will keep going. Even if the sites shut down we could use apps. What would you be giving up? I'd sure miss the people. I've been on other platforms that shut down (Google+, Tsu etc) and the communities got fragmented so I lost touch with people. Hive is my main online home and I'd be reluctant to give it up.
I feel the same way about HIVE, but it feels more and more like people are giving up.
I never came here for the money. My son told me years ago (8!) that it was better than Twitter because it was decentralized and it had free speech. He added that I might earn coin. That's it. It was always about the blogging, the people, the votes. It was always a place to interact with others from all over the world. As time passed I realized this was a very important place for some, for those who needed outside sources of income. Then I had the added incentive of helping an economic system grow, a system that was economically important to some people. My early motivations still exist. I'm here for the people, for the blogging, and for those who need, actually need, the income Hive can bring them.
As long as the doors are open (and I'm able) I'm here.
Much the same with me. I am lucky not to need the extra income, but I can help others. It is such a diverse and interesting community here even if it is quite small. I've met so many cool people.
Things end, happens all the time, and life goes on. Hive is a shadow of it's former self, partlty a byproduct of people (good people) moving on and so many other people (and concepts) sticking around when it would be better if they fucked off.
One of the attractions of the blockchain for me was that it can carry on as long as someone processes blocks. We don't rely on some corporation. We are small, but then there are smaller communities out there on forums and other centralised sites. We just don't get to choose who stays :)
Indeed. I guess if there's a better, more interesting or engaging place to be in a person's estimation of it then that person will be there.
Sheesh! @steevc. ¿Don't you think it's absolutely a childish ridiculousness not to write steem with all its letters?
Well the name leaves a bad taste and I don't like to give them any SEO juice. But it is childish too 😁
I have just returned after having had a year's break. I find it best not to concentrate on HIVE's dollar value, but on its voting power.
That is a good way to look at it!
Hey, I share all your sentiments expressed here. Still, realistically I don't think we'll hit zero. At least not now. (Sure, at some point our sun is going to explode too, so never say never...) Since I never intended to sell my HIVE, it didn't matter if the price was $2.00 or $0.20 or simply $0.02 (or we may add a few more zeros in there...) But I understand, that's not how it is for everyone, and some of us clearly needed their regular posts to help them with their daily bread. But alone the engagement this simple post has generated should be a sign that things are not that bleak.
Good points. I am just glad I have a regular job and I am not relying on HIVE full time. I would be in dire straits if that were the case!
Well, for me that was clear about crypto from the start, even when all the coins were going up all the time. This can't be real, not in the long term. But the blogging and the social activity got me hooked right away.
I'm just sorry I missed those peaks. The first time I wasn't invested enough. The second time I missed it. I was waiting for this current bull run to make things right, but it never came.
Hahaha, and for me? I didn't miss them, I simply failed to take advantage of them. But hey, that's how it goes.
Hive as an investment ...
Given your reference to precious metals, you may wish to consider DCAing into PAXG. If you are currently unaware, it is an RWA for gold. On the ETH blockchain.
For my personal investing, I DCA back and forth between it and BTC, with the goal of keeping a more or less 50:50 position in each.
Thanks for the tip! I will consider it!
Same here brother - There is a lot to love here, and I still don't plan on going anywhere, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worried.
Yeah, it's just crazy. I don't think any other blockchain touches us in terms of free fast transactions. There should be so much building here.

This is a great post (albeit a saddening one). I disliked it before I started reading, mainly because it rang true from the title - we could well be looking at life after Hive in the near enough future. That would be a great shame, a great loss, both for all the things we could still be, and also for the many people you know on here. Sure, you'd keep in touch with some, but really, interaction on Blockchain is for many a huge driver. It's deepened a bond that would have a hard time appearing (much less subsisting) only via the occasional Insta or Facebook post. so much would be lost. I wish I knew how we come out of here, because I sure as hell have a hard time picturing my days without Hive.
PS: Great shot.
Thank you! Yes, the losses from HIVE would be much greater than anything fiscal. I hope we don't have to find out what that might look like.
I don't know where hive will go in the future. Admittedly, it's hard to be optimistic. On the other hand, I remember saying years ago that if hive ever went down to 5 cents it would be a great buying opportunity (or something to that effect). Of course, that's easy to say when the price is high and your stake is low. If you ever wanted to become a whale, now might be the time.
I've alway thought of hive as something that I would let ride until it makes me rich...or doesn't. That hasn't really changed. I'm a little too conservative to just dump money into hive but in recent months I have started using my HBD interest to buy hive on the internal market and continue to "invest" a couple of bucks here and there (via other alts on HE). My stake has never grown faster and i dont intend to power down now.
I've never powered down, so I am just letting that ride then keeping my other rewards liquid in case I want to eventually make some moves.
Not even factoring in price, but the dwindling community was something that made me also start prioritising some other things in life, which has actually been very good for me. As fun as paying so much attention to Hive was in the past, I think I put too much time into things to which my real life ended up suffering as a result.
I wouldn't want Hive to actually die, but its community decline has definitely actually been a positive for me in hindsight. I just hope that once I'm in a better place, Hive is also and I can get back into it properly.
That's good you have been able to find a silver lining in it all. I hope it recovers too!
Got ya that vote on the SPL validator. Not much, but maybe it helps.
My weekly BTC savings plan is running for 26 weeks now. Down quite a bit, obviously. It will be running another 26 I think, and then I'll see. That mining page looks interesting, I never really got into it although I tried to investigate - but then time just ran out, meaning I had other priorities.
Hope it all goes up for you!
BTC will recover I think, even if nothing else does.
I just voted your validator, sadly it didn't change your position lol
!BBH !ALIVE !PIXY
Haha, thanks, I appreciate it just the same!
I agree, things aren't looking so rosy anymore... One project after another is crumbling like dominoes, and the price keeps going down and down. I'm focusing on things outside of Hive as well, maybe I'll have to think more closely about GoMining now for sure.
I love spending time here on Hive, but if things go down to $0.01 I'm not sure how much activity will remain. And almost no projects for that matter. Beautiful sunsets by the way, fit the topic perfectly today!
People are hardly active now. I can't imagine what might happen if we hit $.01...
First what gorgeous sunrise shots and I have been having similar thoughts about Hive but nit planning on going anywhere
I think a lot of people have it in the back of their minds lately.
photos let us travel through memories without leaving our home
in the case of crypto you should buy when everyone else is selling
Those statements are both very true!
I must admit that the thought of life after Hive has crossed my mind, but I am holding on to one hope; Hive is an amazing technological marvel. The combination of AI coding, Hive's fast and essentially free transactions, the miracle of custom and the entrepeurial spirit of many on Hive may yet save the community by allowing people with ideas but no coding skills to build their dream businesses on Hive. I feel we owe much to so many developers and contributors for building great infrastructure here. I hope to announce bigger and better versions of some projects I ran on Hive before, but now with front-ends and back-ends built on top of Hive.
Will their dream businesses be safe though? If they don't have any coding experience how can they know if their dapp is secure and safe?
Good question. They will be dependent on the AI coding website or AI Agent like ChatGPT.
I am sure vulnerabilities will be exploited, but it seems that even things created by coders can be exploited, so these projects may not vary in safety from others. But only time will tell.
Hive-Engine bridges were recently hacked and Etherium and BNB to name two were lost. Cryptocurrency is the wild wild west for sure, and even teams as sophisticated as the Splinterlands founder and HIve-Engine side chain creator can be hacked. I think it depends on whether the honeypot is worth the effort.
Haha, that last sentence really hits home when you consider that it's not really worth it right now. Not given how minuscule the value is on most of the secondary tokens as well as HIVE.
Wow that does hit hard, Hive dollar value is so low we aren't attracting attacks, except when we store valuable tokens like Ethereum or BNB on our chain, and in our structures we think are secure.
Yes, that is very true! Pretty sad...
