Warm greetings, friends of this community for those passionate about architecture in hive. I come to bring you the second part about the Unidad Deportiva Atanasio Girardot, in Medellin-Colombia, which I started to tell you about and show you in my previous post.
This post will contribute 30% to support each of the following friends, @aplusd (10%), @storiesoferne (10%) and @priyanarc (10%) This support I will continue to give for a while longer. I make it clear that nobody demands these small contributions from me, they are my own initiatives and without expecting anything in return.
Going into the subject, I reiterate that this sports complex is so big that you have to go through it and show it in parts. Besides, I could not have access to all the areas, as some of them are closed depending on the schedule, but I will continue to show you some of the places I was able to visit. This time I will show you the soccer and athletics areas.
Saludos cordiales, amigos de esta comunidad para los apasionados de la arquitectura en hive. Vengo a traerles la segunda parte sobre la Unidad Deportiva Atanasio Girardot, en Medellín-Colombia, de la que les empecé a hablar y mostrar en mi publicación anterior.

Entrando en materia, les reitero que este complejo deportivo es tan grande que hay que recorrerlo y mostrarlo por partes. Además no pude tener acceso a todas las áreas, pues hay algunas cerradas dependiendo del horario pero continuaré presentándoles algunos lugares a los que si pude acercarme. En esta ocasión les traigo los espacios destinados al futbol y al atletismo.
Areas for soccer
In the Unidad Deportiva there are several areas for soccer which is the king sport in Colombia, among them is the mega structure of the Atanasio Girardot Stadium and other complementary fields that are outside the stadium. To these courts I could approach for a few pictures with my Iphone, however I could not approach the stadium because there are more restrictions, at least when I went, but that does not prevent me to tell you a little about it and show you some images of free use in Wikipedia and other sites.
Áreas para el futbol
En la Unidad Deportiva existen varias áreas para el fútbol que es el deporte rey en Colombia, entre ellas está la mega estructura del Estadio Atanasio Girardot y otras canchas complementarias que están fuera del estadio. A estas canchas pude acercarme para unas cuantas fotos con mi Iphone, sin embargo al estadio no pude acercarme porque hay más restricciones, al menos cuando fui, pero eso no impide que les hable un poco de él y les muestre unas imágenes de uso libre en Wikipedia y otros sitios.
Here we can see the stadium without the attractive grass and the other fields around it.
Aquí podemos ver el Estadio sin la atractiva grama y al rededor se aprecian las otras canchas.
The stadium inside, spacious, grassy and well organized, awaits the spectators with its bleachers and boxes.
El estadio por dentro, amplio, con grama y bien ordenado esperando a los espectadores con sus gradas y palcos.
From this panoramic view you can feel the excitement of the public and fans.
Desde esta panorámica se puede sentir la emoción del público y fanáticos.
With the Atanasio Girardot Stadium, the Sports Unit is born
The construction of the Atanasio Girardot Stadium with almost 70 years old, with a current capacity for more than 44 thousand people in the stands bears the stamp of its creator, engineer Guillermo González Zuleta and the work marks the beginning of what is currently the super sports complex that we have toured; the Atanasio Girardot Sports Unit.
The stadium has been remodeled several times and has served as a venue for local and national soccer matches, but it crossed borders by hosting international soccer and other events for being a construction of importance in Colombia and with a lot of capacity, although there are some critics who believe that the stadium should be expanded in its capacity but others love the stadium as it is. So much so, that there are those who say it is the second most important stadium in Colombia but there are others who say it is the third, the truth is that it is the main venue for the teams, Independiente de Medellin and Atletico Nacional, that although I do not know much or rather, I do not know anything about them if I have seen the excitement they cause here in Medellin in game season, because the city is paralyzed to admire their teams.
Con el Estadio Atanasio Girardot nace la Unidad Deportiva
La construcción del Estadio Atanasio Girardot con casi 70 años, con una capacidad actual para más de 44 mil personas en las gradas lleva el sello de su creador, el ingeniero Guillermo González Zuleta y la obra marca el inicio de lo que es en la actualidad el súper complejo deportivo que hemos recorrido; la Unidad Deportiva Atanasio Girardot.
El estadio ha sido remodelado varias veces y ha servido de sede para los encuentros del futbol local y nacional, pero traspasó fronteras siendo sede de eventos internacionales de futbol y de otra índole por ser una construcción de importancia en Colombia y con mucha capacidad, aunque hay algunos críticos que consideran que el estadio debe ser ampliado en su aforo pero otros aman al estadio tal cual como está. Tanto así, que hay quienes dicen que es el segundo estadio en importancia en Colombia pero hay otros que dicen que es el tercero, lo cierto es que es el recinto principal para los equipos, Independiente de Medellín y Atlético Nacional, que aunque no conozco mucho o mejor dicho, no sé nada sobre ellos si he visto la emoción que causan aquí en Medellín en temporada de juegos, porque la ciudad se paraliza para admirar a sus equipos.
It turns out that the Atanasio Girardot Stadium is waiting to be remodeled again but in a more amazing way that includes the roofing of the enclosure and modernized in all its spaces to be a complete avant-garde sports work, this precisely waiting to host the final of the Libertadores or South American Cup in 2023.
Resulta que el Estadio Atanasio Girardot espera ser remodelado nuevamente pero de manera más asombrosa que incluye el techado del recinto y modernizado en todos sus espacios para ser una completa obra deportiva de vanguardia, esto precisamente esperando ser la sede de la final de la Copa de Libertadores o sudamericana en el 2023.

Well friends, the truth is that I was left with the desire to know the stadium personally but there will be an opportunity for that and even to go to enjoy a soccer match.
Bien amigos, la verdad que me quedé con las ganas de conocer el estadio personalmente pero ya habrá oportunidad para eso y hasta para ir a disfrutar un partido de futbol.
Other soccer fields
Now if I can show you own photos of the soccer fields that are in other areas within the Unidad Deportiva Atanasio Girardot, because until there I could move and see to all sides enjoying the view before the imposing buildings of the roofed areas painted green that combine with the natural areas where other sports are practiced. Of course there are many spaces to see but it is worth staying a while admiring the soccer area.
Otras canchas de futbol
Ahora si les puedo mostrar fotos propias de las canchas para futbol que están en otras áreas dentro de la Unidad Deportiva Atanasio Girardot, pues hasta allí me pude desplazar y ver hacia todos los lados disfrutando la vista ante los imponentes edificios de las áreas techadas pintadas de verde que combinan con las áreas naturales donde se practican otros deportes. Claro que son muchos los espacios por conocer pero vale la pena quedarse un rato admirando el área para el futbol.
I must confess that it was tempting to see these soccer fields. The wide grass bounded by the striping invites to the foot ball.
Les confieso que fue tentador ver estos campos de futbol. La amplia grama delimitada con el rayado invita al balón pie.
There is natural grass and synthetic grass, but you be the judge because for me both require care to look good.
Hay césped natural y sintético, pero ustedes juzguen pues para mí ambos requieren de cuidados para lucir bien.
Area for athletics
Another space that I really liked was the Alfonso Galvis Duque Athletics Stadium, but first we will see part of the structure on the outside before going inside. I enjoyed admiring the building, the fence surrounding the stadium and the entrance leading me to the track.

Otro espacio que me gustó mucho fue el Estadio de Atletismo Alfonso Galvis Duque, pero primero veremos parte de la estructura por fuera antes de entrar al interior. Disfruté admirar el edifico, la valla que rodea el estadio y la entrada que me lleva a la pista.
Once inside see this perfectly delineated blue track with eight lanes for competitions. This is truly amazing and if you like to run you will feel the desire to do it on this 400 meter circuit type track while you see the spaces for high jump, long jump, and shot put practice.
Una vez adentro vean esta pista azul perfectamente delineada con ocho carriles para las competencias. Esto es realmente increíble y si te gusta correr sentirás el deseo de hacerlo sobre este camino tipo circuito de 400 metros mientras ves los espacios destinados para practicar salto alto, salto largo y bala.
The concrete bleachers for spectators have received many attendees from Medellin, other Colombian and international cities, because this track or athletics stadium has hosted multiple high-level events for the pride of Antioquia and all of Colombia.
Las gradas o tribunas de concreto para los espectadores han recibido a muchos asistentes de Medellín, de otras ciudades colombianas y también internacionales, porque esta pista o estadio de atletismo ha sido sede múltiples eventos de altura para el orgullo de Antioquia y toda Colombia.
The Alfonso Galvis Duque Athletics Stadium has other established areas such as the infirmary, dressing rooms and warehouses for the storage of equipment and supplies needed by the athletes.
El Estadio de Atletismo Alfonso Galvis Duque, tiene otras áreas establecidas como la enfermería, los camerinos y depósitos para el resguardo de equipos e insumos necesarios para los atletas.
The track is made of synthetic material mondo, to the advantage of athletes during the performance of any of the disciplines of athletics. Its blue color is not by chance and I say this because I am inclined to use this color because I consider it a measure that offers safety for athletes with respect to reflections and projection of light, especially the sun's rays that overheat the tracks, not so those that have this blue color as a background.
La pista está hecha en material sintético mondo, para ventaja de los deportistas durante el desempeño de cualquiera de las disciplinas del atletismo. Su color azul no es casualidad y lo digo porque me inclino en el uso de este color pues considero que es una medida que ofrece seguridad para los atletas con respecto a los reflejos y proyección de la luz, especialmente de los rayos solares que sobrecalientan las pistas, no así las que tienen este color azul como fondo.

Hello, friend @sorprendente. The Unidad Deportiva Atanasio Girardot may be around 70 years old, but its sports facilities still appear in pristine conditions. Great job for all those who contributed to its successful design and operations. The remarkable areas for athletics and soccer are also well-maintained for the full productivity of athletes. Do you find time to play and exercise here sometimes?
Hello my friend @storiesoferne, it is absolutely true that despite the years the facilities of the sports complex are in good condition, which gives more honor to its designers and all the work team that participated in this work, by the way during the first stage of the construction of the Stadium, prisoners from a Colombian prison were used, so to them the hardest work is due. They paid part of the sentence with forced services. And yes my friend, I have been able to enjoy that place for some exercise, even with my pets, but those pictures are for another community 😁 Here I leave you one of me, getting ahead of the next post, it really is a place to enjoy.
