On a cool sunning day, reflections take on a whole new meaning. Through my camera lens I discover a distortion of an image that seems to be sending a message.
As an American, I find all the division in our society haunting. Are we on the right path, or are we as a country moving in the wrong direction?
Is a hard question to answer, one that I will keep to myself, as the political arena is so difficult to navigate these days. But as I looked at this image, I had this sinking feeling that our stars and stripes were being sucked into this swirling vortex. But it wasn't just our flag that was being drawn in but also the trees, the sky and the light. I wanted to grab the tail end of our symbol and pull it back down to earth to save it from disappearing into the abyss.
My Cannon Power Shot Sx530 HS, was busy that day, capturing reflections from my car as it stood perfectly still, posing for me.
The glass of the car windows showed the tall trees as the doors captured the wooden fence, some potted flowers and my white blouse draped over it.
As I moved around the vehicle, the light and camera angle created this distortion of the fence from the reflection . I thought this picture was strange, yet again, thought provoking. Can Americans become more flexible, willing to bend and stretch, to compromise for the common good of our country. I would like to think so. I believe most of us are kind hearted and generous. Most people that swirl around my world take care of each other, they share the love. I have hope for America, I refuse to believe we are at the end game. But there is work to be done, we just need to turn off the media and focus our efforts into becoming THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA once again.
As you can see from this angle, the trees in the windows are in clear view, yet the fence is stretched and elongated, distorted by the camera position.
Back to OLD GLORY.
A single red rose has joined the swirling vortex, bringing in the hope of a gentler, more loving American society. A red rose is a symbol of love, just what this world of ours needs more of, LOVE SWEET LOVE.

The whole world is watching your country with a lot of attention, and we cherish your constitution as much as you guys do, and is probably the best remedy against tyranny, that we are currently facing worldwide.

Ummm yeah. So many countries from around the world have respected our model, but I am a little shaken by our last President. I try my best to not worry, but I can't help but think America can do better. I want our country to be better, to see what really is happening here. I understand that the world is watching, and Jan. 6th was a disgrace.
This should never happen again, we are a good and civilized people. Generous our heart and soul.
Pray for us, we can and will do better.
I wouldn't dare to think that I understand the intricacies of the crisis, however I think people have been instrumentalized on that day, that is the honest truth. Therefore, we cannot trust what the media are saying, as they are all very biased and one sided.
I was witnessing it live (on TV), and thought that most people were very peaceful, that's important to remember that, because that's how we keep empathy for one another, and stay away from the shortcuts that the media are sometimes taking.

Our world is exceptionally jumpy at the moment, people do need to take media out of their lives, or seek positive only in watching sport... Tatjana Schoenmaker swam into a gold early hours of the morning, while we were sleeping? Now that is uplifting!
After previous events here we need every bit of positive we can squeeze out, totally agree this world is upside down crazy at the moment.

Greatest concern is young adults coping with all these mixed messages, when be pitched camp to demonstrate it was a different time, definitely not violent. Along with unemployment people are definitely nowhere near happy.
Then worry about how very young generation are going to cope, not mixing with their own age group, held out of school for such an extended period!
Last socioeconomic outburst was scary, many will now leave along with business investments, a bleak picture over here as well, one can only do what one can do, still hoping for a better tomorrow with no masks....

Good day @joanstewart, that also is my biggest concern, my grand children are still young, developing their personalities and life skills. My two oldest ones, 12 and ten really hated being out of school. At their ages, friends mean so much. I pray school opening and stays open without a hitch. They need to get back to the classroom. Last year was a bust.
South African schools now open with over a year of education lost, many children have not returned, vandalism encountered at many schools during these lock-downs.
Frustration is clear to see, children cannot cope with these events, especially when adults are hardly able to keep even keeled... Oh for an island away from politicians and media!

It's such a shame what is happening all over the world, so much anger and strife. The children are the ones who are truly suffering. They need stability and routine. I pray our grandchildren get back to school in September, they need to be in the classroom.

I am glad you got the symbolism. I try never to be political on this platform, would kick up too much dust. But when I saw the picture, that reflection on the car with our flag, I had to build a little story to encompass my thoughts. I feel some days, that the whole world is swirling down into the abyss. We must do better, our children deserve to inherit a better world.
