This is my 7th Chit Chat Friday post, and each week I like to talk about different topics to try to drive up engagement on Hive. This week's topic is an extension of something I did previously, and I'd really love for you to contribute. In fact I'm asking you, please do.
Hive PPP Index
Back in March I did the first edition of the Hive PPP Index. The index looks at the cost of a basket of goods from different countries. The objective is to understand a bit more about how the cost of living varies around the world for Hivers. I received 18 responses from 14 different countries, and that allowed me to present quite a meaningful view of the first edition of the Hive PPP Index. You can view the results here if you're interested.
For the second edition I'd love to get more input from people from different countries to make our Hive PPP Index even more meaningful. I have kept the basket of goods more or less the same as last time. It will be interesting to track changes within the same countries if contributors from last time are interested to take part again. The basket of goods can be found below.
Your country (optional and city/region): UK, South West
Currency: GBP £
|Item|Price|
|-|-|
|one month mobile phone plan with 5GB data|xx|
|1 litre of standard unleaded petrol/gas |xx|
|500 gram of pasta|xx|
|6 eggs|xx|
|1 kg flour|xx|
|1 kg minced beef or pork|xx|
|1 kg of potatoes|xx|
|1 pack of 12 roll toilet paper|xx|
|1 litre of fresh milk|xx|
|1 bottle of 2 litre Coca cola or other soft drink|xx|
|1 pack of 6 can beer|xx|
|one cinema ticket to watch the latest Hollywood blockbuster movie|xx|
How can I contribute
I'm interested to find out how much it would normally cost you to buy these items in your country. It doesn't matter what the brand is or the quality or type (eg plain flour or corn flour, cage eggs or free range eggs). Whatever you normally buy would be fine. If your country sells a different unit eg pack of 9 toilet rolls or 12 cans of beer, please pro rata that to the unit specified. And if you don't normally buy the product, please use the price if you were to go and buy it tomorrow. Just make sure to keep the unit of measurement (eg 5GB data, 1 kg, 6 cans) the same to make the index comparison meaningful.
You can use the format above. Copy and paste it and replace with your own answers, then add it as a comment to this post like I have done below. Or if you would like to do a post about your contribution, please make sure to use the tag #hiveppp so I can find it. You can give the prices in your local currency or USD (saves me doing the conversion), just make sure you tell me which currency it is. Don't forget to tell me which country you're from, and as an option, your city or region.
Thanks in advance for your input and I look forward to your contribution to the Hive PPP Index.
Edit
Forgot to mention this will close on 9th August.
And I'm shamelessly tagging people who responded last time but not yet this time. Hope to see your input again 😊

I'm writing this as a Chit Chat Friday series of post with the objective of driving up engagement and communication on Hive. The content will evolve around daily life things making it easy for everyone to take part to engage with one another. Hopefully it will interest you to make genuine engagement instead of two word spams like "Nice photos" "Very beautiful" or calling bots. I will be muting those comments.
Hello, it's a pleasure to contribute again. :)
Cuba: La Habana
Currency: CUP (Pesos Cubanos)
Thanks so much for putting Cuba on the index!
Seattle area, Washington State...
Your country (optional and city/region): USA, North West
Currency: USD $
I am sure that this is much more expensive than Midwest and Southern USA...
Wait. $110 for fking 5GB!? Thats insanity!
Holy cow!! Mobile plan and toilet roll is so expensive!! Thanks so much for this, this it what makes the Hive PPP Index meaningful. Sorry you guys have to take one for the rest of the world
Is the possibility of replacing the phone every year or every two years included in the price of the monthly subscription?
Your country (optional and city/region): Netherlands / Holland , Utrecht
Currency: Euro €
Aren't you in the Netherlands Mick?
!INDEED
oops forgot that one :D
It had to be Heineken 😄. Thanks for your input!
Heineken is the only option for him, a true local patriot 🙂
Your country (optional and city/region): DK, Region doesn't matter.
Currency: GBP £
Thanks for this. Just want to confirm the currency, is it in GBP £?
I didn't realise Superman was out again 😅
Yes! I kept it / converted it to £.
I would be easy for anybody else than me, to read, understand & compare if it was in £ like yours, I reckon :D
Well same. But I just went to the cinemas homepage haha xD
I went for many of the cheapest options I could find.
Your country (optional and city/region): UK, Fife
Currency: GBP £
133 pound per liter ? really 😂😂😜😜
hahaha got me!
Thanks Ed
Just wondering, do you guys have many 6 packs? Our supermarkets here mainly do 10 packs which I realised isn't common from last time
Your country : Paraguay (Caazapá)
Currency: PYG (Guaraní)
I search better the internet options and there are better offers.
I call to @powerpaul to join this research as far as he is living in Paraguay!
Thank you for tagging me! This campaign is interesting! I talked about this topic a few days ago from Denmark & Cuba - very interesting... I will try to make my list on Monday.
Yeah it's very interesting, I am also trying to destroy the Paraguayan Central Bank's inflation zero rates 😂
Thanks @powerpaul look forward to your contribution, the mory input we get the more meaningful the index becomes
Thanks a lot @ladyaryastark, and thanks for getting more people to join!!
You're welcome 🤗😁

My country : Cuba
Currency : USD
Note that some prices have changed with respect to the previous time due to inflation, the devaluation of our local currency and some absurd measures that have been taken (such as the impossibility to buy more than 1 pack of 6G per month).
Thanks so much for your input again @mdrguez
Por nada 😉🤗
Your country (optional and city/region): Spain, Zaragoza
Currency: Euro €
Thanks Paloma, great to have Spain on the index again
Your country (optional and city/region): US, Michigan
Currency: USD
Thank you Mrs Bozz, appreciate it!!
Your country (optional and city/region): USA, South Texas
Currency: USD $
Thanks a lot @greensandpinks. It's great to have a few more data points from America.
Btw, 1 gallon is 3.7 litre, so 1 litre is 2.59/3.7 = 70 cents (so envious!!). I'll amend that in the results
Yes, I started thinking about what I did - I reversed the formula - today. Then I saw your message.
I always wondered why everyone complained about the cost of fuel here when everywhere else it was so much higher. However, in Texas, it's typically less than most other states, because the included taxes are less (and we live right by the refineries).
Hi! I've been on the road for a while, here's my contribution.
Your country: Czechia, Prague
Currency: Kč (Czech Koruna)
Thanks so much @godfish !!
My pleasure!
Haha, I wouldn't be able to participate even if I wanted to, my wife does all the shopping. She doesn't usually post, but maybe I could get her to make a comment about it!
It would be great to get an input from you @bozz. Last time I had two data points from America which yielded interesting results
Yeah, but then I have to convert everything from standard to metric... :)
I think we're two of the major countries that are still using the old system, though UK are gradually moving a lot more over to metric. Some things like a pint of beer in the pub is so ingrained in culture that I don't think it will ever change, and milk is still sold by pints but it has the liter volume on the bottle as well.
I really wish we were on the metric system, but I doubt that will ever happen.
from non-standard to metric 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Haha, yeah :)
In my case, Belgrade, Serbia, there are no major changes compared to the previous survey.
However, I would like to give one example, from the other day, of price differences by city.
In Belgrade, one scoop of ice cream costs RSD 150 (€1.3), and in Apatin, one scoop costs RSD 100 (€0.85), with the fact that if you ask for a "Mixed" scoop, as I learned from @mipiano, with two flavors, you actually get two scoops of different flavors, so one scoop costs €0.425, which is a drastic difference in price, 3 times.
It would be interesting if someone else from Serbia, would write the prices of other foods in markets.
We know that the price of fuel and mobile number subscription is the same everywhere, but maybe food prices differ by market.
hahaha, it seems that you liked the ice-cream "lesson" I gave the other day 😁
I changed a few items this time, if you could drop a new list, that would be great 🙂
Update for
Country : Serbia
Currency: Dinar RSD converted to €
• one month mobile phone plan with 5GB data: 15€
• 1 litre of standard unleaded petrol/gas: 1.6€
• 500 gram of pasta: 1.3€
• 6 eggs: 1.2€
• 1 kg flour: 0.7€
• 1 kg minced beef or pork: 9€
• 1 kg of potatoes(old): 0.6€
• 1 pack of 12 roll toilet paper: 4.5€
• 1 litre of fresh milk: 1€
• 1 bottle of 2 litre Coca cola or other soft drink: 1.35€
• 1 pack of 6 can beer:4.5€ non craft beer

Thanks so much much. It's great to have Serbia on the index again
❤️
Hi LUT, thanks for tagging me, I saw your post and had the shopping list on my 'things to do list', there are many right now😉 I'm going to be checking the costs of these products again, there will be differences already. Curious to see the overall results.
Look forward to it Lizzie!!
It will be a pleasure to participate again. I hadn't seen the post 🤦. Un abrazo 🤗
No worries, look forward to seeing your input
Your country (optional and city/region): UK, South West
Currency: GBP £
We are still not back in Spain, but until the 9th, I can try to do it again. (I didn't put the prices this time as I understood you wanted to see the results from other, different countries 😅)
The more input the merrier, even if it's from the same city or country 😉
Enjoy your holiday!
Good initiative, I like the way you turn daily costs into global insights..
It's open to everyone to contribute to the index, and will be a good opportunity for new users like yourself to get more involved in the Hive community
I’ve never thought about comparing prices like this across different countries, but now I’m super curious. 😅 I’m from the Philippines and I think it’d be fun (and kind of shocking lol) to see how different our prices are.
I'd love to have Philippines on the index especially since the Filipino community is so big on Hive. Just provide as many prices as available, something is better than nothing for the Index. I'm sure other people would love to see how they compare to the Philippines as well

Thanks so much Lizzie, sorry for the delayed response, my brother was staying with me this week and only left today
Whoops, I missed the payout window, need to get my active key to send you a tip instead. Will do it tomorrow
Hi, mi contribución al índice.
Your country (optional and city/region): CUBA
Currency: CUP (1 USD = 393.00 CUP) source
About Internet check out my post. 5 GB isn’t enough for me, and when that runs out, the prices multiply by ten or more.
About the gasoline, if you want to buy it at the state price I mentioned earlier, you have to sign up on a list, and they call you when it’s available. On the black market, it costs 500 per liter.
About the potatoes—I’ve seen them in Marianao, which is relatively close to my house. Some street vendors sell them at this price from carts. Sometimes they have them, sometimes they don’t. And if there aren’t any, you have to buy them in USD markets, pre-cooked in packages. I never buy those.
Thanks @nanixxx , apologies for the delayed response as I have been occupied all week. I appreciate your help
Don’t worry, I just hope it helps somehow ;)
