Edited down for your viewing convenience. Untangled Knots podcast where we share, mix and create culture.

For the past few months I've been recording 1-2 hour episodes and releasing them in 40 minute unedited clips. I decided recently to cut them up even smaller and edit out the unnecessary parts, making each video 3-8 minutes, fitting for the busy life we all seem to be living these days.

In this episode @young-boss-karin and I disucss some traditional health practices. our conversation was informative and, at times hilarious. I can't wait to have her on again.

Recently I've been trying to promote this podcast on Youtube so for the time being I'm uploading there first (that will change once things get moving, Hive and 3speak is always home). you can see more episodes, including another just uploaded with Karina on Nigerian customs.

78 subscribers there, only 22 more until I can customize my URL! I would really appreciate if you could watch 100% of the newest video at Youtube, the algorithm doesn't like if you end the video early. Or if you think this would be interesting to tour friends, please give it a share!

Much love hive, Much love Naija, Much love everyone!

Here is a summary article about the discussion on massage practices in Nigeria:

Exploring the Diverse Massage Landscape in Nigeria

Nigeria's massage industry offers a wide range of options, from high-end spa treatments to more unconventional local practices. The hosts discuss the contrasting experiences one can have when seeking massage services in the country.

The Expensive vs. the Cheap
The hosts note that the typical spa massages found in Nigeria can be quite pricey, putting them out of reach for many. In contrast, there are much cheaper massage options available, though the hosts express skepticism about the quality and cleanliness of these more affordable services. They describe the "scary looking" practitioners and unsanitary conditions one might encounter at these local massage shacks.

Fertility-Focused Massage
One of the more unusual massage practices discussed is the use of massage and herbal remedies to help women who are struggling to get pregnant. The hosts explain that some women believe certain massage techniques and herbal concoctions can "open up" the womb and improve fertility. However, they note that they don't know of anyone who has successfully conceived through these methods.

The Appeal of Traditional Massage
While the hosts are wary of the more questionable massage providers, they acknowledge that traditional massage can be highly effective, especially for issues like back pain. One host recounts how a skilled masseuse was able to provide relief and teach him techniques to manage his own body. This positive experience has led him to be more open-minded about alternative massage practices, even if he remains cautious.

The Risks of Unregulated Massage
The hosts discuss how the massage industry can be rife with unqualified practitioners who provide substandard or even dangerous treatments. They cite examples like a friend who had her broken leg treated at a massage parlor rather than a hospital, as well as the host's own negative experience with a chiropractor. The lack of regulation and oversight in this field can lead to people taking advantage of desperate individuals.

Overall, the discussion highlights the complex and sometimes concerning landscape of massage services in Nigeria, where traditional practices coexist alongside questionable and potentially risky offerings. The hosts encourage caution and research when seeking out massage therapists, emphasizing the importance of finding qualified, trustworthy practitioners.
