Stop and start

Back a while ago I was spending a lot of time taking photos with my macro lens and really liked the process. I'm not a great photographer so there was a lot of frustration and failures but the enjoyment from the process and the occasional reasonable shot kept me going.

I got busy at work and general life stuff soon after and I've not picked up my camera for the purpose of macro shots for a long time and I miss the process of setting up shots, frustration and the happiness of actually getting a shot I like and have been thinking of getting beck to it when I find some time.

Have you ever stopped doing something you enjoy because life or work just got too busy? Tell me about it in the comments below.

Well, well, well....it seems as though you two can't be left alone for long 😆. @galenkp and @meesterboom, are y'all hitting the eggnog again? Or perhaps you have an ovioid (sp) addiction?

I think you both are hilarious and fitting representatives of your chosen large log species, be that oak, giant redwoods or even that iron hard yew tree, just please, no

The Balsa Exchange - I spit a little coffee out on that one lol...super funny, and that's no yolk!

Miss T!!!

Hehe, my poor fraying wand perked up no end to see your reply 😃😃

We have to keep you on your toes 😃😃

They make an ointment for that! 😂 Can't have you leaving splinters wherever you go😆 . So happy to hear your wand is almost back to perfection! It is eggceedingly good to see you.... and that's all the egg yolks I have.

An ointment! I much prefer a good linament 🤣🤣

I knew these egg jokes would run run, it seems we are all eggsperts at it!

lol ointment - linament - as long as it comes with a good rubbin' it'll get the job done 😂

Gotta be eggspert at something, right??

We thought you'd gone for good but glad you have not...and that you had a coffee incident.

Phht! As if you could get rid of me that easily 😃. Yeah, you guys were having a great time! I really did spurt a little java, luckily I was sitting at the table 😆

Yas indeed, life and work, a brutal combo of both just seems to be screwing all my spare time these days. It's like it gets harder as I get older!

Feeling ya man. But here's the thing, like a fine wine or whisky you just get better with age; you're still rockin' it and I've heard that you still have to beat the laydeez away with a stick!

My stick is fraying with other lady beating 🤣🤣

It's the one thing that keeps me going!

C'mon man, I doubt your stick is as worn as that. Fraying maybe, but ramrod straight and hard. Or hardish.

Oaken I would say 🤣🤣

Oak or balsa wood?

Me balsa below 😉

Yeah, I used to go a lot to the cinema but then life happened and had to stop... I also used to watch a lot of soccer on tv, now time for it is gone... When kid will grow up I guess there will be even less free time

Btw, i love macro photos too

Children seem to put a stop to many things the parents used to, or want to, do I guess. I don't have any so I'm speaking from what I know of friend's situations.

It sure does... But that's life, unless you want to be a shitty absent parent then it is how it goes

I have been passionate about mountain climbing since my youth. There are several beautiful and difficult mountain ranges in Sri Lanka in the Central Province, but due to my busy schedule, I have missed out on climbing those mountains again and again.

I hope you're able to get back to it when you have more time and you don't leave it too late or your body might not be capable.

I think that I already said this in the past but I used to often go watch basketball games with my dad when he was alive. For a few years we even had seasonal tickets. After my dad died I only went to a few games and later stopped going at all and now only watch basketball on tv. There are few reasons for this. Without my dad experience of going to the games is different. Tickets got way more expensive over the years. I prefer to go to sleep after the game right away without having to travel home first. Also now I got this a bit irrational fear that while I will focused in watching the game someone can steal my phone/ wallet.

I remember you saying so previously. I wonder if it's worth going, just once, to see how the experience feels; I guess you never know unless you try it out and if you don't feel comfortable with it then you'll know to stay home and watch on TV.

Tell You about it...

You already know my story of my vampire like life/time draining career choice.

I could still make a small profit if I lived trucking 24/7.

Not gonna happen...

You work too hard man, but then again, I've done the same my whole life.

The other day I was thinking about that and about those photographs you took, which, for someone like me who knows much less than you, seemed spectacular. The journey, the process, is always the most important thing; it helps you improve and also have a good time.

And yes, it's happened to me too. I've stopped painting pictures because of things in life, sometimes because I didn't feel motivated, with lots of things on my mind or because of too much work. But even so, I think about it, about taking it up again. In my case, my mood is reflected in my paintings, so I prefer to do it when I'm calm. That moment is coming again, and I'm happy about it.

You should paint more and spend less time doing digital stuff...not much skill needed to click buttons but to control a paint brush...way more skill.

For the moment, that's what my job consists of, but I'll make it more compatible by coming up with a strategy to have time for painting.

I'd like to see what you create with bushes and paint.

A forest landscape, for example, or gardens.👍

I've been impressed with how well my phone takes macro photos lately. It's pretty amazing what they are packing into such a small form factor. Not as nice as your photos though! :)

Yep, phones...remember when they used to makes calls? They ought to just call them cameras. Apple iCamera 27.

I know, I used to give people such a hard time when they would say something like "my phone doesn't take good pictures" and I would say "because it's a phone!". That's really not the case anymore. It's just crazy how things shift like that.

If they put arms and legs on phones people could replace themselves with their phones. The phones could use AI to do everything and they could move around in self-driving cars and eat McDonalds and take nude selfies for Instagram.

What a glorious world it would be.

I am going to be doing a new photographic series called traction - or maybe, I dunno, friction. I find great enjoyment in looking at where things have scrambled for traction, be it the tracks of a bicycle Tyre just off the path, or the repeated footfall of people in the dirt across from the train station, or the little potholes in the road just after speed bumps or railway lines where rubber picks back up again.

I've got a few photos of these things, they are mundane, but interesting. They show the absence of presence, and the traffic of a place.

As long as it makes you happy, that's what counts.

So many times... I would do so many things but I don't have the time. In fact, I always starts so many different things, painting, reading, learning something, creating videos, and then always stop doing it cause I don't have the time or the money haha.

Time goes by quickly, best to make the most of it.

that I will be amazed by the things in this world..your capture is so amazing😍

Thanks.

Your welcome♥️

Totally relatable! Life gets busy and our hobbies take a backseat, but it is always worth finding time to get back to what we love. Hope you pick up that macro lens again soon
