Why is the sign up process so ridiculously cumbersome?

I'm stuck at link Hive account.
I add the account in the field and press "Next" but nothing happens.
That's after the ridiculous hurdle of even getting to that stage, where as the new user I'm commanded to install "Hivesigner" and then go through the process of making a Hive account without any explanation of what it all means and why I need to make two different accounts.

Now I know why @pressfortruth and the like simply won't use 3Sspeak. Seriously this is likely a rant now but how embarrassing that the sign up process is so ridiculously broken. Possibly that's why there's all those accounts from the @pablopenguin reports that get created on 3Speak and never post anything. THEY FUCKEN CAN'T!!

This is Web_3.0 is it?

You clowns @theycallmedan and @starkerz running 3Speak want to be the heroes of 'decentralised censorship resistant video' but the product is simply garbage. Come on man who the fuck are you kidding?

The experience of the user needs to be pleasant.
It needs to retain their presence.
It isn't going to happen when they're frustrated with your product.
I'm simply left thinking "I'm never using that crap.. even if I wanted to."

Anyway Rant over..
It's all based on FACTS though.

Sort:

Have you tried signing up through peakd?
There are a multitude of signup platforms, one of the should work?

The account creation worked.
The linking 3Speak to Hive is the wall.
Can that be done anywhere else but 3S?
It really should be.

If Hive is the master chain.
Then dapps should obey.

So many tweaks and improvements needed here to make it work for the average Joe. Minor details combined make user experience superior.

We are still early adopters, but you are right, sign ups need to be friction free.
Not everybody out there is ready to be their own banker, especially when they find out that mistakes cost real money.
https://leofinance.io/ is taking the lead on getting painless signups coded.

Yeah I agree and it's good to see people looking at the example set by LEO and acknowledging that it's working.

I'm thinking of it as brilliant idea still in development!

Well imo, that's why crypto/blockchain is broken.

My motto of this tech is:
The WOW before the HOW.

People would rather be sold by fluff then to go out themselves and really research a thing in order to make an informed decision.

That's not saying I don't believe in the technology or the likelihood that decentralised video can gain popularity. However, it takes a lot more than a person making the claim "we're an alternative to YouTube." Actuality is what makes that mean anything.

So when the onboarding process is so broken to the point it's even a limiting factor to user uptake and retention, then really, you need to be called out for that.

That's just a joke.

Your point is crucial also.
Still in development.
Which is true.

So then to try to sell it to the world when it's not even there yet is again going to work against the dream. Which is again how I view this Hive thing. No CHAT or way to retain users and make them want to call Hive their new home. Go to DISCORD to stay connected. That's just insanity! Give traffic to a centralised non-hive system... brilliant!

Anyway I'm sure others agree.
Just not many say anything.
If I'm wrong I welcome correction.

On the one hand I agree - the initial impressions are bad because it's all just hard to use and confusing.

But because I was using Steemit in 2016 everything seems more evolved now - to me at least.

And I think it will work in the end - if 3Speak develops like Leo finance it could be rapidly going places in three months - but right now it has a bunch of issues

Yeah I get your point completely and also agree. The development skills on Hive are far beyond what steemit had. Just like back then though, user uptake and retention should be focus. Specially since this corner of the internet is so niche. So new projects actually struggle because they're attempting to grow in a place where shrinkage of users is the reality.

One thing that must be recognized in relation to LEO is that they're expanding on what's already here. Crypto/money sighted people are naturally going to engage, specially since there is constant improvement to the Leo experience.

Whereas 3Speak, while providing video for the already here, are chasing bulk outside users with their 'censorship resistant model' so I consider that a big gamble. Which then means that the platform and user experience needs to be superior to mainstream.

The platform literally has one chance to take that traffic. The sign up and then the content that a user sees on first run. As is, sign up is a headache and content is limited. Imo, they're getting too ambitious with what they're proposing because they're again gambling that content creators are going to want to have their content and followers all migrate to an unproven platform.

What I would do is FUND WELL content creators already in the gates. Generate hype, not by shilling, but by user discussion on a potential alternative video platform. With that you coin the term "3Speaker" just the same way the term "Youtuber" became something creators aspire to be. Once you've got network effect, THEN you can come in and say "create your own token and community" because by then you already have many creators, their followers, masses as audience.. AND buzz/hype outside around "what's this 3Speak platform that's paying creators and viewers."

It's a slower but methodical approach.
Going for WOW however is hit and miss.
