gm! it's official! Zypto now supports the HIVE blockchain. You can now link your HIVE account with @zypto and spend HIVE or HBD at anywhere with a POS terminal that accepts visa.
This tutorial is for anybody who...
- Already has a Hive account with enough resource credits to claim an account creation token
- Already has @keychain
In this example I created a brand new HIVE account which I'll be using like a spending account. I will transfer funds from my main wallet to this spending wallet. This is also as a safety precaution.
- Create a new account on Keychain using an account creation token
- Write down your username and private keys on a notepad
- Create wallet on Zypto and give it a name
This will give you a 12 word mnemonic seed phrase which you can use to restore your wallet later
4.Import your HIVE account to Zypto by clicking this button here, followed by the "Create or import" button
- Finally, enter your HIVE username and master password to link.
That's it!
You should see your HIVE balance in your wallet and can now deposit HIVE or HBD and use it to top up your virtual visa card.

As some already stated, the need for a master password is a bit scary, but what you did in the video is a perfect solution... New, dedicated HIVE account for spending funds is a good solution... A debit HIVE account... 😃

It's super easy to have your card directly on your phone! You don't have to wait for a crypto card to arrive in the mail or anything. I've made my first videos buying coffee with HIVE + Zypto card, the whole process to top up and spend takes like 60 seconds.

What is this fee:
When do you pay it? When you send money through zypto, or every time you pay by card, or...? It's a bit unclear from the website...
When you convert $10 worth of crypto to your virtual VISA card, you get charged 3%. So you'll be charged $10.30 and have a balance of $10 on your card.
When make a purchase, you'll be charged $0.30 per transaction.
It's not bad at all considering how incredibly convenient it is. I'm super excited.
It's per transaction when you pay with the card.
No site or service should need your master key as that would give them total control. They would need the active key to be able to do transfers. Having the extra account may be worth doing anyway. You can transfer to that with Keychain.
It's important to remember that we have zero access to any private keys, Hive or otherwise. Zypto App is completely decentralised. The keys stay with you 100%.
That's good to hear. I have not looked into the app, but it raised alarm bells when people talked about master keys. With Hive you have levels of control and apps should use the minimum possible. I shall have a look to understand what it offers.
Yep, watch the tutorial if you get a chance. I went ahead and created a spending account just for Zypto. The integration is new and I'm testing the best ways to use it. I'll share my findings in the next few days. It's exciting to have another way to use HIVE in real life! 🙌

We're already working on implementing some UI/UX improvements based on user feedback so far. Some will roll out with OTA updates and others will have to wait for the next full release.
Using the master password makes me feel anxious. Definitely only use this with a separate account.
Cool stuff though and I will probably use it.
Having a separate spending account also helps to airgap your funds. Only have what you want to spend available; smart move.
Hey, looking forward to see your finding, I wanted to try today but couldn't import a newly created account walterjay.card because of invalid master password or seed format. Put out a message on their blog and talked to AI agent but not resolved. Since its new maybe it will work better later on. But if you have an idea I am interested to make it work. Spent enough time today on that but willing to try again later.
I hope you get it. It's worth trying out. People need tools that will help them move money around and this is a very intuitive option. Let me know if there's any way I can help.

That's ok. Happens some times. Leaving this here in case someone else is also struggling to figure it out. There's a few different ways of doing it, so my plan is to cover as many as possible to remove some friction.
This is a very valuable tool for the future, though I'm not planning to spend my Hive for now.

I'm so sorry my friend! Regulation can be a pain in the butt in some countries. Our Canadian brothers and sisters have to wait a bit on Zypto unless you can get around it by using a VPN. Try that.

The app has been a bit buggy for some people, but please don't give up. They already released an update to address this master password invalid error. Update the app and try again. Also, the support team has been super helpful via the built-in support directly on the app. Reach out there. You'll be using the visa card in no time.
I think I know what's happening... they are setting a limit on the number of characters, and the short master passwords of hive accounts do not work, but if one changes their master password to a seed phrase password, then it works!

This sounds great! I wouldn't really want to spend and HIVE right now (or in the next years, probably), but it's great to have that option. I'll be checking it out!
Zypto also works as a clean way to manage your assets and to execute swaps without giving up self custody. Spending should of course only be when one believes the time is right.
You can always spend and replace. The awesome thing is people now have another option to spend and swap and this helps strengthen the parallel economy.
