Ireland the Emerald Isle

in TravelFeed4 years ago (edited)

I like this country so much. Some unique and mystical atmosphere is here.

Ireland is an island in the North Atlantic and it’s separated from Great Britain to its east by the North Channel, the Irish Sea, and St George's Channel. Ireland is the third-largest island in Europe.

Ireland is divided between the Republic of Ireland (officially named Ireland), which covers five-sixths of the island, and Northern Ireland, which is part of the United Kingdom, in the northeast of the island. I was in Republic of Ireland and got some photo.

It’s a cloudy, gloomy country, but with a wonderful nature. Every place in Ireland is full of history. Country has a lot of ancient and beautiful buildings.

Ireland is called the emerald isle, but why? The connection between Ireland and emeralds is quite obvious to anyone who has ever visited - Ireland is exceptionally beautiful and green, as are the gemstones.

Ireland is known as the Emerald Isle, however, as opposed to some other viridescent adjective, is thanks to a rather remarkable Irishman named William Drennan, who referred to it as such in his 1794 poem When Erin First Rose:
"Alas! for poor Erin that some are still seen,
Who would dye the grass red from their hatred to green;
Yet, oh! when you're up, and they're down, let them live,
Then yield them that mercy which they would not give.
Arm of Erin, be strong! but be gentle as brave;
And uplifted to strike, be still ready to save;
Let no feeling of vengeance presume to defile
The cause of, or men of, the Emerald Isle"

One of the nicest places in Ireland - Cliffs of Moher.

There are sheep on the hills and in pastures and often on the road. They walk everywhere, each in their own affairs.

According to Irish legends, the leprechauns live in Ireland. They are usually depicted as little bearded men, wearing a coat and hat, who partake in mischief. They are solitary creatures who spend their time making and mending shoes and have a hidden pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. If captured by a human, they often grant three wishes in exchange for their freedom. Unfortunately, I did not meet them by travelling in Ireland.
