The Beers and I: Cristal from Cuba [EN/ES]

in BEERlast year (edited)

I have to admit that I am a beer fan and I am happy to have found this community, from which I hope to learn a lot, and share the emotions that come with every sip of this drink.

Beer is the most consumed alcoholic beverage in the world. Its origins date back to 4,000 B.C., in the Mesopotamian area of the Middle East.

Its discovery was accidental: water was mixed with cereals and a miracle happened. As a result, the Sumerians moistened the bread with water and the yeast fermented the mixture into an alcoholic beverage. A ritual took place in which people joined together.

In Cuba, my country, it is said that the first time a cold one touched Cuban territory was in the 18th century when it was smuggled from Jamaica. Quickly, this novel product became popular among the Antilleans, and finally in 1772 beer made its official entry into Cuba legally. Source

Since then, a succession of events turned it into a favorite beverage, brands burst in the national production of many variants began, of which today I present Cristal, which is promoted as Cuba's favorite.

Cristal has been produced since 1988 and is part of a long and proud Cuban tradition. At 4.9% alc./vol, it follows the pale lager style and is currently brewed at the Bucanero SA brewery located in Holguin province in eastern Cuba. It has a clear golden hue that complements its light and sweet refreshing taste, with a minimal bitter touch, some pinches of salt, and a sour point that slightly evoke the sea that surrounds our island.

Commonly known as "La Preferida de Cuba", in 2007 it received the gold medal at the International Monde Selection, for its excellence and flavor.

Cervecería Bucanero S.A. also produces a premium Cristal Pilsener variant of the emblematic national beverage.

The proposal was baptized Cristal Extra which is a light golden-colored beer, with consistent natural foam and 5.2% alcohol by volume.

Subtle herbal notes of hops, light sulfur, and light fruity esters are evident in its aroma. Moderate and balanced bitterness with a clean finish that refreshes and invites you to drink.

Cristal is also the name of famous beers produced in Panama, Chile, Peru and even in the United States, a beer is marketed under the name of Palma, with clear signs of imitation, inspired, according to its creators, in the Cristal beer of Cuba.

The truth is that in every corner of the world where there is joy and memorable moments, this beverage is a witness.
And beer continues to be the protagonist.

For me, beer will always be a passport to a journey through its flavors, tinged with that smile that only memories bring back, in songs, in smells, in the whisper of this breeze that now ruffles my hair.

And you, which one do you like?

y a tí, ¿cuál te gusta?

Beer is the most consumed alcoholic beverage in the world.

Are you sure? I thought water was... Then perhaps a clever guess, I'd think coffee second, and somewhere down the line, beer? 🤔

In Cuba, my country, it is said that the first time a cold one touched Cuban territory was in the 18th century when it was smuggled from Jamaica.

Was that smuggled beer, Red Stripe?

You profess your love for beer, the way I would do coffee. Hmm, my husband loves coffee and he is a keen drinker of beer. I wonder which would reign supreme for him?

I enjoyed your post, and I see that you are fairly new to Hive, right?

I would strongly encourage you to add sources to the info, particularly about the history of when beer came into Cuba.
