Disclaimer: I'm not a business pro. This is just my personal opinion based on my studies in forecast or evidence. It may or may not happen. We can agree or disagree.

Why BPO or call center industry enter our country (Philippines) before?

  • Cheaper - instead of hiring onshore much better hire Filipinos because we can adopt all kinds of language in a matter of weeks.
  • Infrastructures is not a problem for the client.
  • Applicants don't have to think of having their own computer or Internet connection.
  • Clients can enter this industry and compete successfully with little fix cost.
  • MOST of all, BPO has its great technology.

Before, having an Internet connection is Not easy. It's so expensive!
But now, we can easily get a 75 mbps unlimited at a low monthly cost. And we can definitely add more gadgets or devices be connected in one router and modem or a gateway. That's what they call "easy access".

Since this Pandemic shocked our country(March when our President started talking about ECQ -enhanced community quarantine) BPO companies think of options for us (employees) to choose from. One of those is Work from home.

Based on my own experiences being a Work at home employee.

This are the "PROS and CONS":

COMPANY / CLIENT:
PROS:CONS:
Continues RevenueDistribution of units
No need to pay for additional expensesSystem issue and staff monitoring
Can hire people directlyPrivacy/Security
WAH EMPLOYEES:
PROS:CONS:
Traffic is not a problem any moreNeed to have additional tracker
advance 2 hours or longer for travel time and preparation is not neededMulti-tasking (mom/agent in one
You can go to your child right after your shiftHard to seek assistance since all is experiencing system issues
SaferNeed to wait for approval through chat
Cheaper in terms of fare, meal budget, etcAdditional bills payment (electricity, Internet connection)
Connectivity allowance or the company can provide a WiFi connectionIf you have defective unit or parts or not compatible parts. You need to buy your own.

Now, since we have experienced working at home. Most of us are thinking of doing this for good.

Employees may leave the company soon if the company is not open for having a work at home set up. Most may want applying to a company that has this kind of option.
Employees will think of "being Safe than Sorry!"
This Pandemic can cause this kind of mindset.

When it comes to security issues, fraud, handling of sensitive data are all valid concerns.
Those happened irregardless if people work from home or at the office.
These are happening because of bad hiring practices and ineffective preventive measures.

BPO companies may think that it will not going to happen. But it's happening. Clients are now outsourcing work at home applicants directly without the help of BPO's (middleman).

As technology becomes more accessible and affordable, industries that fail to adapt will inevitably die.

Remember that not all images are okay to use.

But not all internet service provider provides a good connectivity, PLDT home fibre are to slow for 15MBPS offered globe and other Telco also. Philippines ain't ready for this kind of industry since those big corporations monopolize this service and taking most of the pie.

Here on our area we are using converge fiber. So reliable.

With 75 mbps unlimited for 1000 php per month

Actually the original price of this one is 2500php but I'm just paying 1000php monthly. 😜

Congrats, hearing in the news about the many people who lost ttheir jobs, I would say that you are one of the lucky ones. :)

I would still very much prefer working at the comfort of my home. If I had this option before, I wouldn't have left my previous company. Ang ending tuloy, isa akong housewife ngayon. Hehe

Mas okay nga po talaga magwork sa bahay. 🥰

Yeah, this crisis we're facing right now is greatly affecting everything! That includes the bpo industry. I think one of the biggest factors that is affecting bpo companies these days, aside from the stability internet connection is the integrity of handling sensitive data. We can't really avoid these type of happenings, yeah? Even in the office. But nevertheless, working from home is much better than exposing yourself outside right. Well, we just hope we'll bounce back after this

👍👍👍

This is a problem for all companies! Especially here in Abroad! Thanks be to God that the Filipino community here is helping each other and we get support from the local people here...

It's good to know that "kapwa tao" and "bayanihan" is still alive. ❤️ Be safe kababayan!
