Excellent start of the week my dear lovers of sport and healthy living. Today I want to tell you about a sport that is slowly becoming known in every corner of the world, many nicknamed "the sport of the future". This is the ULTIMATE FRISBEE, also nicknamed the sport of peace, if you still do not know it or want to know more about its striking qualities this post is for you 😁
By the year 1903 in California USA, the pie factory "Frisbie Pie Company" delivered their delicious pies in a tin mold which the young people of the city used to entertain themselves by throwing them to each other, this practice quickly became popular in the city but it was not until 1946 that with the advent of plastic an enthusiastic thrower named Walter Morrison patented the first "flying frisbee", this was not very successful because it broke easily. After 10 years Morrison sold the idea to a toy factory called Wham-O and by 1964 the first professional frisbee was born.

)In 1967 high school students in Maplewood, New Jersey, created a mixture of other sports such as football, soccer, tennis and basketball, played with a Frisbee. One student, David Leiwant, dubbed it Ultimate, as the ultimate sports experience, hence the name. Ultimate Frisbee has gained popularity around the world, in 2015 the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recognized the sport as an Olympic sport, so its appearance in the Olympics is eagerly awaited in a few years.
¿En que consiste el ultimate frisbee?
What does ultimate frisbee consist of? It is a sport that is played 7 vs 7 in a field that would be 100mt long by 37mt wide. In its beach mode it is played 5 vs 5. It consists of making a touchdown by passing the frisbee between the players of the team from anywhere on the court, being able to be intercepted in the air by an opposing player. The touchdown is made when a player of your team catches the frisbee inside the opponent's goal zone.
¿Por qué le llaman el deporte de la paz?
Es un deporte de alto rendimiento y nivel competitivo pero a su vez tiene varias cualidades que ayudan a sus practicantes a elevar su capacidad de resolución de conflictos de forma pacífica y fomentar los valores de la sana competencia. Algunas de estas curiosas cualidades serían:
1) Es un deporte autoarbitrado: Cada jugador es responsable de realizar un juego limpio, aceptar sus faltas y sobre todo cuidar la integridad física de su oponente pues a su vez es un deporte de NO CONTACTO.
Why is it called the sport of peace? The rules of this sport have made it to be considered as a sport that promotes peace because its main rule is the spirit of the game, in fact, at the end of each tournament or competition there is a parallel award ceremony in which all participating teams vote to reward the team that played with the best spirit of the game throughout the competition. It is a sport of high performance and competitive level but at the same time has several qualities that help its practitioners to raise their ability to resolve conflicts peacefully and promote the values of healthy competition. Some of these curious qualities would be:. 1) It is a self-arbitrated sport: Each player is responsible for playing a fair game, accepting his faults and above all taking care of the physical integrity of his opponent because it is also a sport of "NO CONTACT".
2) Es un deporte inclusivo: Aunque tiene categorías masculina, femenina, master e infantil, tambien cuenta con su categoría mixta (hombres y mujeres), la cual consiste en incluir en la cancha 4 hombres y 3 mujeres o viceversa. Curiosamente esta es la categoría que mas le ha llamado la atención al comité olímpico y es muy probable que sea la que se presente en las olimpiadas 😁
2) It is an inclusive sport: Although it has male, female, master and child categories, it also has its mixed category (men and women), which consists of including in the court 4 men and 3 women or vice versa. Curiously, this is the category that has caught the attention of the Olympic Committee and it is very likely to be the one that will be presented at the Olympics 😁.
3) Es un deporte que busca sacar lo mejor de cada jugador: Al premiar el espíritu de juego fomenta prácticas como felicitar a tu oponente por las buenas jugadas, reconocer una falta y en caso de no estar de acuerdo la jugada se devuelve sin perder el tiempo en discusiones y al final de cada partido realizar la llamada "rueda de espíritu" donde ambos equipos conversan brevemente sobre su partido felicitandose por su juego, dando consejos si uno de los equipos es novato y limando asperezas en el caso de que las haya.
3)It is a sport that seeks to bring out the best in each player: By rewarding the spirit of the game it encourages practices such as congratulating your opponent for good plays, recognizing a foul and in case of disagreement the play is returned without wasting time in discussions and at the end of each game to perform the so-called "spirit wheel" where both teams talk briefly about their game congratulating each other for their game, giving advice if one of the teams is a rookie and ironing out any differences if there are any.
Ultimate frisbee como herramienta de cambio
Muchos de sus jugadores dan testimonio de la mejoría que ha representado la practica de este deporte en sus vidas, aparte de ser un deporte exigente el cual te aporta un excelente nivel de salud física, tambien les ha dado las herramientas para ser un mejor ciudadano y ser humano, por esta razón el Ultimate Frisbee ha sido adoptado como una herramienta de cambio a través del deporte, siendo muchas las fundaciones que lo han llevado a zonas de guerra, países en situación de pobreza extrema y barrios donde la delicuencia reina. El lema es "cambia un arma por un frisbee y cambiarás una vida".
Ultimate frisbee as a tool for change. Many of its players give testimony of the improvement that has represented the practice of this sport in their lives, apart from being a demanding sport which gives you an excellent level of physical health, it has also given them the tools to be a better citizen and human being, for this reason Ultimate Frisbee has been adopted as a tool for change through sport, being many foundations that have taken it to war zones, countries in extreme poverty and neighborhoods where crime reigns. The motto is "exchange a gun for a frisbee and you will change a life".
