Hive Explained In Friendly Doodles (Will You Help?)

in Loving HIVE ❤3 years ago

Hi! My Hive Beginner's Guide is up to 14,000+ words. It covers every Hive question in friendly terms a teenager could grasp. I'm also making doodles to go with it.

Visual storytelling feels good.

Here's a taste of some of the illustrations I've made so far. They all came from my brain, made by me, (though sometimes using licensed images from DreamsTime.com and Envato.com. Plus one of them borrows from Charles Schultz's peanuts without his permission, but I feel an iconic man like him would be okay with this use. :D)

The final guide will have many more doodles, but I wanted to see if you had any improvements or suggestions to make these illustrations better?

1. For the 'Disclaimer' about Hive On-Boarding:

2. A pitch for 'Why Hive:'

3. For the 'Getting Started' section:

4. For the 'Keys' section:

5. For the 'Resource Credits' section:

So there you have it, a taste of my illustrated guide to Hive for beginners.

P.S. Since the guide is so big, I haven't decided if I'll make it a post here on Hive, or a much cleaner formatted & colored page on my website, or an entirely separate domain, a blend of the above, or what. I'm thinking that since it's for people who aren't on Hive, I'll host it on a website, but not clear yet. Suggestions welcome.

P.P.S. I only have a few Hive questions left unanswered. If you feel inspired, please help answer my last 8 questions, any insight is greatly appreciated.

Thanks to @cynshineonline for helping me with these drawings, and thank you all for reading & any comments you make.
Sincerely,
~J-Ryze.

The bigger your stake the more influence you have and the bigger bully you could potentially be.., if you desire to be one. It is not just the witnesses, they rarely make bad things happen.

There is usually a reason for a big fish to pick on you or someone else, and they can destroy your account if they wish. You might find that there's rarely any trolling here, and now you know why. It is good in one sense and a little fake in another where people appear to be controlled by fear to some extent.

These are the negative things you may hear about HIVE and STEEM. You can do anything you like, but suffer the wrath if you do the wrong things.

I like everyone else started with nothing and it's rarely happened to me. If you do start trolling for 'no reason', or are a natural one who likes to hand out spurious shit then expect the wrath of the community to jump all over you.

Most of us are decent people but there are bouts of drama and occasionally witch hunt's where someone is driven off the platform. You can never be properly driven off, but if you can't get anything besides bad comments, $0.00 posts and a negative reputation (0 is not the lowest), then there's little point hanging around.

Thank you so much for checking my other post and providing such a clear, honest answer to this.

I believe I've understood you correctly, and I'll probably summarize it something like this in my final guide:

"Although Hive is 'free & uncensored', it's still a group of humans. And, as with any group, it's best to be respectful and kind. Because just like in real life, if you disrespect or upset an influential Hiver (one with lots of Hive Power), there may be backlash. (Like having your account downvoted into obscurity.) No need to fret though, you've dealt with this situation before... either at school, or at work, or in any other group. For example, if you were a regular at a bar and accidentally pissed off the bar-owner, then refused to make amends, you'd likely be ostracized or even banned from the bar. Same thing goes for Hive. Learn the culture, contribute positively, and chances are you'll do fine."

As always, I appreciate your help, and will make sure you're credited in the posted version. Wishing you a great weekend! :)

I was hoping some other's would help with the rest. I will re-HIVE this.. and maybe they will. An example of drama is here. This person has some grudge against OCD.. and that account is on the large side. While not destroyed, if they continue.. then they will never get any rewards.

Trying to show the community that 'this.. or that is not worth this much'.. also goes down like a bagful of shit. Look at the older posts heh...

I'm very grateful, thank you. :)

And wow! It's so helpful of you to link that. Personally I wouldn't dream of behaving like the person in your link, but having an example makes everything much clearer. And yikes, I looked at a few of the posts there and totally get it. Exactly what I needed.

It's worth noting that @intothewild , @meesterboom , @marc5 (I think he re-hived too!), @dandays , and @joshman all helped answer some questions. It's great to see so many people caring about beginners. I did a ton of research of my own to answer the others, and now, with your help, there's only 6 questions left! I'm so excited to finishing polishing the guide and get it launched. It turned out to be the size of a small book, but hopefully I've made it easy-to-navigate and fun enough with doodles that it won't be intimidating.

Glad I could help dude, you got some good people around you. A couple names I rely on for help you might wanna consider following are @trincowski and @splatts. One is a developer and one really knows the in's and out's of Hive. Between all these names, you should have some relevant responses.

Oh snap, somehow I missed this comment... I bet these two would've been super helpful while I wrote the Hive Beginner's Mega-Guide, lol.

Well, I'll check 'em out now, and I feel super blessed for everyone contributing so much love and help to the cause. :)

We care because this is a decentralized ecosystem, someone has to do something in order to market us and become succesful, it won't be done by itself. So everyone should put out its best, that is the power of decentralization.😀 I hope it really becomes the ultimate guide for hive!

Well said! I totally agree, that's why I wrote the guide, to make onboarding easier for anyone who's 'marketing' Hive to newbies :) I think it's close to the ultimate guide...? :)

Really cool illustrations! Great job!
I'd say you should post your guides here on hive so it can be available here for all, new members included, and so that you can be rewarded for it.

Also, host it on your website like you said too, no mutually exclusivity. You can put it in as many places as you want to.

Thanks so much, @nevies ! I appreciate it.

Ah, yes, multiple formats and multiple points of access, that makes a lot of sense! It's kind of "double the work", but sounds like it'll be worth it for everyone overall.

So yes, I'm currently leaning towards your suggestion! :)
