Yes, breakfast. That's what we call the first meal we have during Ramadan.
At home we prefer to call it "the ritual of cooking... and eating"
We have become professional cookers in just one month: we have done all kinds of things (the confinement and free time helps to unleash your imagination and to burn the recipe websites).
What do we eat during the month of Ramadan? We should rather say... what don't we eat?
In general, there is a lot of variety of recipes, but especially sweet aliments. So as not to end up as "billiard ball", we try to make balanced dishes with fruit, vegetables and some meat or fish. We usually make a main dish and then snacks or finger foods.
Today the main dish was a giant salad like the one you see below.
Another day we made a nice Spanish potato omelette.
If we feel strong enough on Fridays we make couscous.
Below is a picture of a normal table in Ramadan:
- Tagine with meatballs, tomato and potatoes
- Boiled eggs
- French toast with cinnamon
- Harsa (kind of sweet semolina bread, typical Moroccan)
- Quinoa with vegetables
- Nuts
- Natural fruit juice
- Watermelon
- Moroccan Tea
What is never missing in a table to break the fast:
- Dates
- Chebakia (typical sweet with honey)
- Harira (typical Moroccan soup)
