No Fair!
As a dad of 2 kids, I get this a lot; "No Fair!" I have even heard it from them when they were 4 year old and can barely speak a coherent sentence. I remember to 'pretend of play' any board game with them, and for 30 minutes the two of them will discuss the rules and 'fairness' of the game, without doing any proper gameplay, and then when my time was up (yes, without doing any gameplay) we will close the board game, they will actually later say that they were happy 'playing' the game!
I would get into hive governance, and explained numerous people that 'self-voting' is not really necessary, especially if you post frequently. Some will understand (shall I say accept? because, I can't believe adult humans didn't understand the conflict of interest!), others will not. They will get into great leangth of written argument to 'explain' why they are doing it, and why it was necessary, and why it was 'fair'. Then I or other members of the community will remove their rewards by downvoting (when explanation fails) and they will immediately say downvote NO FAIR!

I was listening to the above podcast in "This American Life" over the weekend. I am a long term listener of the show and I have presented a few of their podcasts at hive blockchain before. This particular edisode is all about 'fairness' from pre-K kids (like the example of my kids) and profressional NBA stars, referees and fans. This second act has Michael Lewis in it (yes the famous one).
In the first act, in order to save teachers time and energy, this partucular pre-K class decided to install a "tattle-phone" in their class room. So whenever kids wanted to do tattle-telling, instead of going to the teacher and wasting her time, they will speak to this phone about their complaints :) I find the idea excellent! Not only this gives us parents a window into their day at school, but it also gave them a space where they can just speak their mind without interrruption or judgement. Often times, for small scale displeasure, that is all most of us need (even adults). We can just share it with someone which we think is 'injustice'!
I am going to list some of examples of tattle telling from the kids below!
Kid 1
Eli told me a lie.
Kid 2
Seamus wasn't sharing with me, and I don't like it, and I'm very upset.
Kid 3
Nathan farted in my face, and I said, yuck, Nathan.
David Kestenbaum
Catch that one? Nathan farted in my face, and I said, yuck, Nathan. But the real crime?
Kid 3
And he didn't say excuse me.
The result from the classroom? Yes, it dropped tattle-telling a lot! Mind you, there is nothing on the other side of the phone. No action is being taken. Its just kids telling their small things into the void :)
I wish we can have something like that on hive. I know there is a community called Rant, Complain, Talk; but I don't think it is used enough. I guess people also sometimes like some actions. This is where the problem start in the real world, especially with the adults.
If every little thing, like a NBA basketball game referee calls, requires a $20M action replay review board, that cost will be transferred to the consumers. Please listen to the podcast to understand what exactly I am saying. This is a same reason a monthly supply of a prescription drug is 10X more expensive in the US compared to say India. Not because labor is cheap (yes that is cheap a bit) but because, here all drug and insurance companies will have to factor in "legal costs" because consumers, if treated 'unfairly', can/will sue them! So they put together an army of lawyers and transfers that cost to us!
Be careful what you wish for! That is all that I am saying.

I do like downvotes, they are like guns in a way. It matters how you use them.
Without them, hive will be like blurt in 1 month. That is the only effective tool for decentralized staked based governance!
I have never visited Blurt, wouldn't know how it is there but from your reaction, Im guessing much like steem?
Steem does have downvotes but I don't think anyone uses them.
It is a cesspool!
The whiners who claim it is not fair are usually the frailest of souls. They cant take a litteladversity in life and treat a legititimate user behaviour of the platform as an illegal theft. Absolutel dafties.
Kids are allowed as they are kids! Although I tire of hearing it :OD
Ha ha. I agree!
If you have a few min to spare (10 min is enough) I do recommend listenting to that podcast link. The first act is really funny and heart warming at the same time. I promise you will like it. Link is below the photograph (source)
I will indeed. I am back in the land of the living tonight! WiFi ahoy!!
My son, he has always told me this same expression that you indicate in your post, the "self-voting" is not really necessary, especially if you publish frequently, I publish at least every two days and I always say the "self-voting" anyway. voting "is not necessary, I consider that I will no longer make that mistake, auto-vote for my publication, in that sense I share with you, said expression. Thank you for clearing it up. Successes in your publications and healings, from Cumaná, Sucre-Venezuela state, @omarrojas.
Tattle phone is really a great method to kid of achieve a little bit of mental satisfaction as in real life we can't really speak our heart out to many people due to various boundations
"various boundaries" you mean..
If hive had a tattle-phone it'd ring off the hook with people complaining about being caught out rorting the system and being addressed for it.
It's senseless the way people whinge and complain about a downvote, even the smallest of them. I htink my personal favourite is when people say their freedom of speech has been taken away by the downvote. Umm nope, your words are still there, just not the rewards.
People are
funnypeople.Remember, there is no one on the other side of the phone :)
Let it ring off the hook! That's the point :)
Yes, good point.
The concept of tattle-phone is really amazing. If there was a way of learning about their fear and wishes like making them taking to GOD and parents could know all that would be awesome.
Where and how god comes into this?
I was just talking about regarding tattle-phone only. Wasn't relating this with the whole idea.
If schools could somehow manage that it would be helpful for both children and parents. As parents sometimes missed out on things that aren't much of a issue but burden for those little kids.
