This Grasshopper or Locust, which is named Dark Bush-Cricket I have found last Sunday on my morning walk at the Reservoir. This shot was taken before the rain, but the leaf was still wet from the night before. It is a young Cricket called a Nymph. |

#2 Druse (geology)
The word Druse means something else too, but in this case I mean a geological Druse, which is a cavity (Geode) in a rock, incompletely filled with crystal collections of various types. When I was searching in our apartment for things with the first letter "D" this stone came into my sight and I remembered that is is called a Druse. |

I can think of a quite funny story about a druse: I was on vacation with my wife and friends in Tunisia many years ago. On the markets they had minerals, crystals and also druses with amethysts in the little caves of the stones for sell. Because these purple crystals were beautiful and also very cheap, we all bought such a geode, of course. Somehow the crystals got dusty during the vacation and I wanted to wash the stone. When the water from the tap ran over the crystals, it suddenly turned deep purple, the amethyst crystals lost their color and became any other crystals, which would have been nice anyway, but unfortunately the purple color could not be washed out of the cracks and rough areas of the crystals, which is why we unfortunately had to throw them away. At least they have been very cheap 😉 |
#3 Double Rainbow
Last September I was driving around the lake Wörthersee at sunset time when it began to rain and the just setting sun created this beautiful Double Rainbow. I was lucky to be on the north shore of the lake already and so I was able to take a few photos of the rainbows and I especially like the one with the Observation Tower on the Pyramidenkogel. |

#4 From Dusk till Dark
Unfortunately the weather forecast was right yesterday evening, although it didn't look so at first. We had many clouds in the sky, but there have also been big gaps with sunshine inbetween. So I thought I might have luck and see a nice dramatic and colorful sunset. The weather forecast predicted a storm, but I didn't believe them and I thought I was right, because on my way up to the mountain from where I wanted to shoot the sunrise I saw beautiful sunrays shining down through the clouds. But as said, the weather forecast was right and it got stormy and rainy. So I decided to make only a timelapse video and wait in my warm car 😊 |

#5 Sleeping Dandelion
Oh yes, I know I have said that this week I don't want to post the very obvious things, but it is Spring and what belongs to the Spring? Right, the Dandelion of course 😉 And this Dandelion was somehow special to me, because the blossom was still closed in the morning and "sleeping" with its mop of curly hair. I have taken this photo also last Sunday on my morning walk at the reservoir. It was raining, but the flower was growing under a tree, so both of us stayed quite dry for a while. |

#6 Dramatic Dark Clouds
Actually, I wanted to post these clouds last week in my post to the #AlphabetHunt for the letter "C", but then I found the "Cruiser" in the other photo and took that one. On my ride back down from the mountain Magdalensberg I saw these somehow interesting and cool looking pattern in these dramatic dark rain clouds, which were not really gray, but had a very blueish tint. |

Well, for someone that found letter D not easy to hunt, you had some surprising and original finds 😉 I like the way you envision this research, you make it your own way...how wonderful !? ^_^
Your idea for this challenge was great and I love it, just as many others do, because it is really a challenge for myself, to find more originals or special things and avoid the obvious ones 😉

Good morning my friend and thank you very much - finding words with the needed starting letter is easy, but searching for the not so usual things or better said for originals is a bit harder. You made it even harder by giving yourself a theme wherein your photos had to suit. This idea was really great.

Dandelion honey, dandelion salad, dandelion tea (dry leaves and roots) and there are many other recipes which have parts of the dandelion as ingredience :)

Oh, I haven't heard about that before - my mom has made all the other things with the dandelions, but I can't remember that she has ever made wine from it.
But I'll ask her next time when I see my parents next week.

Yess! I knew a dandelion will be on top. But I love those closeup shots most of all, and I am.also surprised with my choice 😇😊
And... the clouds are really cool! I feel squeamish when see insects but yours is so small and I view it from my phone ao its okay 😁

These clouds stayed just about looking the same up there for over an hour I think, and in reality they looked much better.
Insects can look so beautiful when look at them closely - just zoom in and you see how cool many look. Even the ugliest can be little beauties in a macro photo 😂

Concerning insects, I agree and disagree. They look really cool in macro, but ... still nasty. Probably except butterfly or dragonfly or... I dont know, thats all that cross my mind. When I see their whiskers...yuck! Cant be helped 😜

I love watching the clouds, watching them run when a strong wind is rushing them is one of my favorite images.🙋
This was my first timelapse video with this camera and I love it how easy it is to handle :)
My hopings have been to see some nice sunset colors in addition to these moving storm clouds, but I think they look nice on their own too, and you like them :)
I will certainly make some follow up timelapses of such scenes in the future - it is new to me and makes fun too.

Yes, Slovenia has opened the borders and I could make a trip down there. The only thing that hinders me to go there, is that to get back home across the border again, I either need a medical certificate that I am healthy, or I go into a voluntary 14-day quarantine at home. But they may change these restrictions in the next few days.

Oh, I wouldn't mind the 14 days at home ;)
All the newspapers are telling in big letters that now everybody can go to Slovenia and the Mediterranean Sea again, but later they write in smaller letters, that it is not that easy to get back home. Never mind, I'll wait for a few weeks and believe that by then it will be much easier to cross the borders.
An eclipse would be cool, but there's none next week. I think one happens in June and one in December, bu tI'm not sure.
And I neither haven't photographed an elf yet, but I think there must be an elephant photo somewhere in my archives - thank you 🙂

The same problem in Canada - at least in Atlantic Canada Johann. You can’t cross the border to go into another province unless it’s essential . People are upset that have summer cottages here as they aren’t allowed in yet. My sister can’t leave Nova Scotia to go to her cottage in New Brunswick.

You even are not allowed to go to another province? That's hard, but I've heard it is the same in Germany. We didn't have such restrictions here, unless an area was under quarantine.
But I think soon it all will get better.
I was just thinking, that because there are no tourists around, the elves and other creatures must have a very good life without any fear of loud people running around and disturbing their peace.
If you behave as we should behave respectful and calm in nature you might see one or two of them.
But if you take a photo and publish it in your E post, please don't say it is a new photo taken on PEI, because then the island will be overrun by tourists and maybe even worse people. Just say that you took the photo years ago in the middle of nowhere 😉

Haha Johann, you just gave me another thought for the letter’E’. It’s not really an elf but close enough.
When I went into Montague you would never know there was a pandemic. Even without the usual summer tourists there were lots of people out and about. They are keeping the 2 meter distancing and only so many people at a time in stores I had to wait in line outside for the grocery store.

Thanks a lot, JJ, I was surprised about the timelapse. It was so easy to setup and I didn't need to do anything else - the video was finished in camera. The only thing I thought was that the single images would be saved too, just in case of a nice one, but there was only the movie on the card. I'll have to have a look in the manual, if it's possible to save the RAW files, but I don't think so.

thats what my plans had been for this spring to take both of my cameras use th full frame for photos and do timelapses withmy smaller camera which does them well, but as of yet I haven't done any

I have never tried to make time lapses with my small camera - I don't even know if it is able to, but the idea is good, because I didn't even think of it.

Always enjoy fun challenges like this, takes you off on a treasure hunt through old photographs.
Although I always try to take new photos for challenges, that is sometimes just not possible, and looking through the old or older photos can be very interesting too 🙂

I almost didn't see this little cricket without my glasses on ;) Luckily it was early and it didn't move, so I could take a quite sharp photo.

For the number 3 I have made several different attemts to photograph something starting with D, but none has satisfied me enough, so I decided to take an older photo and remembered this double rainbow from last year.

I really enjoy this challenge and searching for matching motifs is the second challenge to me, but if I cannot find something noew to photograph I can always search through my archive, where I have found the double rainbow ;)

Original ideas for the letter D. My favorite is the rainbow 🤗 I saw three rainbows once, which is very rare .... I will have to do my best for my hunt.😉

If I can remember right, then there was a third rainbow too, but that one was too light to be seen on a photo, but you are right, they are very seldom.

Yeah, these clouds looked great - in reality they were much better, and this cricket was very nice to me and didn't move ... or it was still sleeping ;)
