“Takes a Village” Live Looping by Auto Bodhi

Summer of Love

It was the summer of 2018 and I had just returned to the U.S. from a 6 month journey to India. While there I studied Iyengar Yoga with some really great teachers, enjoyed the foothills of the Himalayas and the beaches of Karnataka, and in the process met my partner who I am now building a life with.

I was living with her in a small RV in my parents driveway while showing her some of the US and trying to find a way to support ourselves working online so we could travel for a while. I was also working at a secondhand shop and hanging out with the fam while I was back on native soil for a bit. Still working on that making money online thing but we have been lucky enough to do a fair bit of traveling, though not exactly in luxury class accommodations.

Alone Together

We were pretty cramped in that little caravan with my upright and other guitars and amp and recording gear and whatnot, and we had really only know each other for a month so it was interesting to say the least. It was a really beautiful time though, filled with walks on the beach and creative journeys. We learned a lot about ourselves and each other that summer, and from there we actually went back to India together. That journey was much shorter but felt a lot longer. I’ll share more about that later because that’s really a whole ‘nother thang...

The Start of Something Beautiful

This was my first real exploration into live looping using an app called “Loopy” that I really like and it really got me excited. It took about 2 days to write, rehearse and record and I’m still really happy with the outcome.

The hardest part was keeping the time down. I had actually hoped to get it under 10 minutes but this is the best I could do. The first take was over 20 if I remember correctly... Using pedals would streamline the process but that will have to wait.

I will return to looping, especially once I can get my hands on a bass here on Portugal, but for now I’m working on some other projects. Anywho, this was the birth of Auto Bodhi, a collaboration with my pet robot (ipad).

Please Enjoy:

Owww thats a nice story you share. Meeting you life partner in far away countries at the bottom of the Himalaya! Guess in the US its done more often, but living in an RV at your parents house is something that we don't see that much in my little country. Listening to you track as I read and write this comment. Do like it very much! The video is super funny with the feet dancing!

I don’t know if it’s done very often or if I’m just an odd duck, luckily for me my parents and I get along much better now than when I was a younger man and spending a few months on their doorstep is a nice way to spend time with them since I’ve spent most of the past 15 years several thousand miles away. Plus it was free, so there’s that ;)

hahaha all good reasons.... and again, you are thousands of miles away! :)
