Hello everyone ๐ป,
Happy Monday ๐ and a very warm welcome to my report. We are onto a new week and I have been feeling upbeat even as we head to the end of January.
I began my day with the usual morning walk around the neighborhood. A heavily cloudy day as I made my way, and cold ๐ฅถ too.
Next came the house chores and then later onto the trending stories from x and you tube.
The day continued to be cloudy and rainy up until the evening when I set out for the sunset ๐ walk.
I walked around the neighbourhood and park before heading back home and calling it a day. The rain is continuing tonight, hopefully tomorrow will be a clear day.
So now let's take a quick look at what has been happening around the world.
In Gaza, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians are returning to their homes in Northern Gaza after Israeli forces finally let them cross the Netzarim corridor buffer zone.
Most of them have little to return to as most of their houses lie in ruins. Some have relatives who are still trapped under the rubble of the bombed out buildings๐ฟ.
Most of the buildings are inhabitable but the tearful re-unions of family and friends bore that sense of happiness and hope๐ฟ.
In Israel former national security minister - Itamar Ben-Gvir who resigned on the signing of the Gaza ceasefire has termed the return of Palestinians to Northern gaza as victory for Hamas, urging the govt to keep up airstrikes๐.
Trending in Europe, memorials held to mark 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz in South Poland. In London Prince William and Kate turned out for the memorial as holocaust remembered the horrors of that camp. Major landmarks in London have been lit up in purple in memory of victims of the holocaust๐ฟ.
Still in Europe, Belarus trending as president Alexander Lukashenko was sworn in for a seventh term following a sham election๐น.
After 30 years in power, still going strong.
Like most dictators he will continue doing the most just to stay in power for life๐, never say never, things might change though.
Also trending, EU foreign ministers were meeting in Brussels to agree on a roadmap to ease sanctions on Syria with particular focus on banking, energy and transport sectors. They want to help in rebuilding Syria as a new administration is in charge.
Across the pond in the US, Chinese AI bot, Deepseek, sparked a US market turmoil wiping off over $500 billion off tech stocks๐.
The chinese say their chatbot program is much better than anything we have seen, faster than similar US chatbots that took billions to create yet theirs only took $6 million๐น.
Still in the US, 956 people have been arrested in nationwide migrant raids by immigration and customs enforcement officers๐.Just the beginning of such arrests at the start of Trump's presidency.
Further down in Colombia, the white house says Colombian president, Petro, has accepted to receive deportation flights after the tariff threat by Donald Trump. Some US visas of top officials had already been revoked too๐.
