Hi Everyone

So today I wanted to try something different.

Using the chromakey function on my editing software I wanted to try and key out the body of my guitar
and replace it with footage from Disney's Pocahontas.

The song I am singing is "Colours of the wind" which is sung by Vanessa Williams and is the theme song
of Pocahontas.

By keying out my guitar body and replacing with some footage I can get creative and add some colour to my normally black and white videos.

This actually worked even better than I hoped it would, check out these screenshots I took while editing the video.

I really enjoy singing these Disney Classic songs , they are incredibly well crafted and have that "feel good" factor.

I think practicing songs like this is a good way to become a better singer so I sing them pretty often.

These songs are also perfect for experimental projects like this and if done properly can create something quite spectacular. The visuals help the guitar tell the story of the song.

I look forward to reading feedback from this community on this one. This is easily one of the best videos I have made so far.

Enjoy :)

"Colours Of The Wind"
Vanessa Williams

You think you own whatever land you land on
The earth is just a dead thing you can claim
But I know every rock and tree and creature
Has a life, has a spirit, has a name

You think the only people who are people
Are the people who look and think like you
But if you walk the footsteps of a stranger
You'll learn things you never knew, you never knew

Have you ever heard the wolf cry to the blue corn moon
Or asked the grinning bobcat why he grinned?
Can you sing with all the voices of the mountain?
Can you paint with all the colors of the wind?

Come run the hidden pine trails of the forest
Come taste the sun-sweet berries of the earth
Come roll in all the riches all around you
And for once, never wonder what they're worth

The rainstorm and the river are my brothers
The heron and the otter are my friends
And we are all connected to each other,
In a circle, in a hoop that never ends

Have you ever heard the wolf cry to the blue corn moon
Or let the eagle tell you where he's been
Can you sing with all the voices of the mountain?
Can you paint with all the colors of the wind

How high does the sycamore grow?
If you cut it down, then you'll never know

And you'll never hear the wolf cry to the blue corn moon
For whether we are white or copper-skinned
We need to sing with all the voices of the mountain
Need to paint with all the colors of the wind

You can own the earth and still
All you'll own is earth until
You can paint with all the colors of the wind

You can paint with all the colors of the wind

Hey man, this was awesome! Love the effect you've put on the guitar, super cool, it looks great. I haven't heard this song in a long time too, takes me back! Great to hear some background too man, I feel like this method could help improve my vocals too.

You rocked this dude, really well played and your vocals are on point! Loved it :)

Thanks alot for the kind words bro .Yeah you should play around with some Disney songs, its always fun. I think this one is supposed to be tuned down to D standard ,I should try it in that key some day.

This effect is very creative, maybe there are even guitars with a screen? I don't know, you have done well with the song making changes in the tonality, it is a beautiful song and has a timeless message about the importance we should give to mother earth, I can't tell you if the use of the Disney video is the most appropriate in terms of copyright, but in a creative way it has been very beautiful because of the contrast between the grayscale video and this colorful guitar.

I agree with you when you say that Disney songs convey a beautiful feeling, they are so well thought out that they are great, thanks for sharing a story and a song.

As for the topic of copyright I was also curious to know where the boundaries are. On Threespeak we have no concerns about copyright and when it comes to artistry we can ponder where the limit of fair use can be stretched.

However on Youtube they have a team of people who will flag your video if you cross the copy right line even one inch, especially with Disney. I can tell you I uploaded this video to Youtube out of pure curiosity to see what they will say and it passed all their checks! I was very surprized...There are many times I have got a copyright strike for much less than this, but on this occasion they say nothing at all about copyright.

With regards to the contrast of grayscale vs the vivid colours of the Disney video ,this was purely an accident I found out while editing. When I clicked to remove the orange/yellow hue of my guitar it takes that hue out of all the video. If you notice the tone of my skin, it even removes the colour from that if I key out this hue. The result is much more interesting that I hoped for. The background fades to an almost black and white while the Disney footage remains very vibrant in contrast. A powerful effect I did not expect when filming the video.

I love singing this song and editing it to this original Disney footage today was a joy for me. I am glad to know my work is enjoyed here. This is one of the videos I am most proud of making even tho I did not expect that when starting this project.

Chroma key guitar ist an amazing idea!

Yeah it was fun to edit this video and it turned out a lot better than I thought it would. I will most likely use this effect again when I can think of a song that suits it :).
